Hey guys...
I just wanted to say how much I miss OOVTT and the awesome theatre that is produced each season. I am learning what the supposed "real world" of theatre is here at the College of Santa Fe, and it makes me want to go back to y'all so much! Nothing original, experimental or meaningful comes out of this theatre department. :( I hate it. Anyway... YOU guys are awesome and I can't wait to go home this summer and see what you've been working on. SO MUCH LOVE, Zoe

Hey everybody! I just wanted to say how much I loved No Business. Seeing all the excerpts from so many shows that I have been involved with over the years was really fun and brought back a lot of great memories. Khy, thanks for writing a play that addresses why Our Own Voice is so special!
Also, I want to thank Bill and Khy for letting me recruit so many Our Own Voice company members to be in One River Mississippi. The event was a great success and was an extension of the work that we all have been doing with Our Own Voice for many years. I want to give a special thanks to Alexis, Megan, Krista, Katherine and Zoe for being involved in the show and representing Our Own Voice in such a GREAT way! Love to all, Kimberly

John,
Okay, so I heard this mad crazy rumor that you won a contest on tv. I have to say that I didn't believe it one bit. That is, until I saw the video. I canNOT believe you wore *those* clothes on national television. Heck, international television. People in Iceland probably tuned into the show! John, John, John... Just so you know, Tre and I will figure out how you managed to "win" as soon as you get back. We'll tickle it out of you if we have to. Thea People

CONGRATULATIONS, John Wang Doodledo for making it into the semis of "So, You Call That Acting", out there in Hollywoodland. You doing a smash-up job. You're really showing those hollywood types what "real" acting is all about. Were all rooting for you here in Memphis at OOVTT. Break-a-leg, merde, and all that. To the Cast & Crew of Moved:
Thanks so much for all of your hard work on Moved. We have received good feedback about the show. I hope that you had a good time working on it. Dancing is hard work. It takes hours of rehearsal, attention to detail, commitment, physical endurance, and a great deal of focus to prepare for a movement show. After all of that work there is still the important job of moving your audience to pay attention, to notice the patterns that are carefully crafted, and to connect the movement and themes in some way to their own lives. For me, dance and choreography can be such a therapeutic process. You may have noticed that this show had pieces that dealt with the theme of leaving and saying goodbye. I could not bring myself to say goodbye to Our Own Voice with my words so I chose to do it through dance. I have been working with OOV since 1993 and it is far too difficult to say that this is the end of my journey, but for now I will say that I am taking a break to re-group, revitalize, and retreat. I will still be working with the company on the administrative side of things, and I look forward to seeing how the company continues to evolve and grow in the future. Be Well & Keep Moving - Kimberly

There are some nice pictures of Disco Nights I've never seen before. There is also a good picture of Melody dancing in the rehearsal progress. If you look up there is a shot of my chest to the left of Melody. How did that happen?? I guess my face missed that shot. Darn that Melody! Just kidding:) We had such a good time doing that show. We worked very hard on it.
I have such a good time with Our Own voice!!! I hope everyone will get to come out and see our up coming show. Bill just as always, is great to work with.

Thanks to everyone for your excellent work on The Ergolytes!!! I really enjoyed being a part of it by assisting Alex with the choreography.
Bill and I appreciate very much your commitment, dedication, talent, energy and time that you offered in working with Our Own Voice for this show. Thanks to EVERYONE who was involved in making this production happen! Some special thank yous... Alex - You are a brilliant writer and director. We are so grateful that you were willing to come back home to us for a time to direct some wonderful and inspirational work for the company. Thank you for having a very open vision for your work with OOV and for being willing to take risks. Be proud of all that you did to actually make the idea of The Ergolytes become a reality. Janelle - Thanks for taking a leap of faith to transplant yourself from NYC to Memphis to intern with the company. Your kindness, nuturing, enthusiasm, dedication, and attention to detail is just what was needed as a Stage Manager for this group. Sarah R. - Thanks for completing your year-long internship with us and for being willing to do a plethora of tasks for OOV. Your hard work shows from the grant we got from Memphis Arts Council to securing a FREE copier from NovaCopy for the office. Thanks for taking care of the finances and banking, and for all the little things. To the Designers - Dave, John, Brandon & Jane - Thanks for your contribution of time and artistry for sound, lights, film and costumes. Your talent and time helped to create the real magic of theatre and made this performance very special. To the Performers - Every single one of you was an important piece in the intricate puzzle of The Ergolytes. Each person brought something special to this project - you, in all your wonderful "uniqueness". Each one of you is a gift - remember that and carry it with you. Keep Moving. Keep Evolving. I would like to respond happily to Stephane who wrote on December 4th 2002 at 4:41 PM.
1.Theatre is pretend. 2. The first time I heard of "invisible theatre" was in high school theatre class. Then I heard it again in grown up theatre class. Who knew!! 3. Our Own Voice is "Experimental theatre". So it goes right along with that psychology experiment you were talking about. (I took psychology class in high school and college.) 4. Who is Araud? 5. I'm glad you came to the play about Artaud. It really was interesting, intriguing, and challenging to watch. Anything bringing awareness to the mental health community is worth the support:) Thanks!!!

I've been reading the articles about all of your plays. While most sound intriguing, I have to say something about the "invisible theatre" workshop you did. Going into a store and pretending to be other people is not theatre. It's a game silly little Junior High kids do to gage people's reactions. It's also the kind of experiment you learn about in high school psychology classes.
Also, while the recent Artaud production was interesting, and while the article gives it its fair due, I will have to wonder about Mr. Baker's reference to Araud and Jesus. Perhaps he was misquoted. One can only hope.

I really related to Our Own Voice in a way that I have never "connected" with a group of artists prior. There is just a sense of genuine, unconditional, positive regard. I just love everyone in the group.
I think that Bill put it into words better than I could on the last night of Unbecoming when he said that OOV is doing something right because there are a lot of people who have done countless projects with the group. I could ramble on for hours about how much I feel blessed to have been touched by the whole endeavor. Thanks, Laney

Hello,
I am doing a program today at SETC on theatre with/for the physically and mentally challenged. I want SETC to explore this as part of its long-range goal of diversifying the organization. In the program notes, I state that the program was inspired by Our Own Voice. I was trying to think of examples, and I suddenly thought of your group as a superb model of a dynamic exciting theatre, period-that was creating work based in some issues that we are starting to explore. So- I just wanted to let you know, and to thank you. What you are doing helps emphasize the importance of the theatre creating a place for everyone at the table. Lana, Morgan, Katherine, you guys should dance more at school. Your dad was TERRIFYING..well, he was a Terror, but thats beside the point. The show was great, funny, wonderful, informative, and all, and Bethany had a great time. We gave her a wonderful time for her last night (more or less) on Earth. er, in Memphis. Despite the slugs. Thank you for a wonderful time! thank you ALL of you colorful bean people

Thanks to Chuck Zimmer for taking the digital shots of Santa Claus/Spurt of Blood and thanks to Sarah for getiing them up on the web. It is one thing to be inside pieces of theatre like that, but quite another to see it from the outside.
Thanks to you both for documenting and posting the images so that actors can have the chance to see the productions from another perspective!!! Kimberly : )

Looks like a few people found the guestbook! The site is really shaping up into something that can make us proud. Hopefully I can beef up the show information for the past seasons, as well as include information about the current production. Be sure to refresh your browser when you visit again, as many changes are sure to take place until then.
Thanks for visiting! Sarah
