Comments:Me and my husband want to home a greyhound in September when I start my part time job. We have been in contact with the RGT for over a year now. We have read up on all aspects of owning a greyhound and recently received the RGT rehoming video, which we found very useful.

We are sure that they are the ideal dog for our lifestyle and after visiting Crufts recently and meeting the greyhounds on the RGT stand, we are more convinced than ever that we have a lot to offer that special dog.

Comments:Your website is very informative.I love greyhounds but would be very nervous about adopting one because my neighbours cats spend all day in my garden. My sister adopted a lurcher 3 years ago and he is a beauty but he hates other dogs and cannot be trusted with small animals. He loves humans though!

Comments:A lot of the greyhounds who are put up for adoption at a very young age - 1 or 2 - are not interested in chasing anything at all. And some ex-racers (strange as it may seem) are the same.

Not all dogs (and this applies to ALL breeds!) are as well socialised with other dogs as they could be.

However, there is a lot that the owner can do to change this. Reading up on dog psychology, attending a good training class (see www.apdt.co.uk) and gradually exposing the dog to a wider range of experiences all help to teach him or her that other dogs are nothing to get worked up about.

Comments:I adpoted Domino 2 years ago, as a 3 year old greyhound. It has been a wonderful experience, and if I had the room and money, would quite happily take a few more in!! He is a very typical couch spud who like a lot of fuss - on his terms, and lots of treats - even helps himself to defrosting sticky toffee pavlovas! However, he is not keen on cats or some breeds of dogs, inparticular westies! So you can imagine my concern when my father homed two siberian husky puppies last year. Wonderful 12 week old bunddles of fluff. To my surprise, Dom loved them, he accepted them into his life and now they are as big as him, he chases them around the house and garden, pinning them down - it gets a bit hairy at times and we just make sure we get out of the way!!
I look forward to the day when there will be no need for rescue centres for these wonderful, affectionate animals. Keep up the good work.

Comments:Hi! I love the site. I have got 1 greyhound at the moment and shes lovely, her name is Jessie. We have 4 cats and they get on really well with her and the cats sometimes bully her! She would never hurt them. So if anyone is afraid of getting one of these wonderful animals because they have cats, Jessie is proof that they can exsist in harmony!

Comments:Hi Gilly,
We adopted our greyhound with your help just two days before Christmas 2000. It was the best Christmas we have ever had. Her racing name was 'Simply Sandra' and she came from Dave Egan's Racing Kennels, Nr Wokingham. We re-named her Sami and love her to bits. Our border collie, Ben, was a bit shocked to see her at first but they very quickly settled down together and are inseparable.
Jaw fights are a regular part of our evening entertainment! She is very affectionate and is always wanting a cuddle. The worst she has done so far was in the summer when she brought a hedgehog in to cuddle up with on the sofa - not sure why - perhaps she thought it was cold! Most of the time she is very good and eager to please. Thank you so much for helping us to adopt her. Also, can you advise us where to purchase a fleecy jacket for her to sleep in in the Winter?
Rob and Gill.

Comments:we have had Arnie now for a year,a retired oxford dog, racing name Remote Chance. he is every thing and more as i knew greyhounds were, all the family love him, which i knew they would, i use to work for the G.R.A. in POTTERS BAR. and was at the White City and Harringay tracks when they were open, so fell in love with grehounds very quickly,it just took me fifteen years of nagging to get him,but i'm now nagging again as he needs a playmate,i know he will share his sofa with a new pal, as the children now live on the floor anyway, and when they go to school he keeps there bed's warm for them untill they get home. i know my nagging will work so wish me well, i hope a play mate will be here soon.

Comments:Hi,

I have two indoor cats and hope that I can adopt a greyhound
soon. I been very concerned about my cats - I love the breed and will start looking at rescued racers next week. My first visit I shall watch cat testing here in Tucson. The volunteer tester has been doing such for a few years and has counseled hundreds of adoptions.

I don't know how to find your website.

Thank you, judy

Comments:I haven't had my computer long but I just had to have a look at the Greyhound Websites. I came across Oxford Greyhound Trust website and thought I would write in. Living only 20 miles from Oxford I didn't realise there was a website here for "us" greyhound people who live around here.
I own a 12 year old greyhound named "Hovis" (don't ask me where he got the name, he came to the kennels where I was Head Kennel Girl with the name, perhaps he was well bread!)
I worked with "coursing greyhounds" for 8 years and found them so very affection and loving I knew I would have one one day. That day came when my boss decided that it was time to call it a day (her and her husband where in their eighties). Hovis had 2 days to live and in a snap decision my partner and myself decided (more me having to stay at home all day, a long way from my family and expecting a baby we would have Hovis come to live with us.)
Right from the beginning Hovis was absolutely brilliant and learned to live in a family so very quickly. He never had a accident in the house(he was six when he came to live with us) and took to the routine quickly.
My little boy (he's five now) has grown up with Hovis and they both adore each other( more so Hovis when the biscuits get dished out by my son). I often find them cuddling and it has made my son very animal friendly.
I would like to say to anyone thinking of getting a rescue greyhound that it is the best thing they would ever do.
The breed is so kind and gentle (even my two and a half year old niece loves to come and visit.
All want to is please consder adopting a rescue greyhound, it is the best thing I have done.
Sorry about the long letter, I just wanted to tell everybody visiting the Oxford Greyhound Trust website what a good idea a greyhound is to have around in the home.
