So i said to my Girl friend at the time shall we go and see him. So we got tickets and went for a beer before hand in the pub right next door which was very quiet. All I remember was thinking is it or isnt it. There he was sitting there having a pint of stella himself. Honestly it was bizaar. But anyway cut a long story short went up to him got him to use pen & bought him another pint of stella. Hes a top chap

Being a Marillion fan for a mere couple of months (just don't ask how I could ignore a band that great for that long!), I tried to figure out the meaning of all those great lyrics myself. I failed, of course. Not being a native English speaker certainly didn't improve things a lot, but I reckoned I had a fairly good understanding of the language. But understanding the words isn't quite the same as understanding all the hidden implications. I managed to make sense of some fragments of all that, but the overall picture was missing - until, by freak accident, I stumbled upon your great web site - at which point many of those pieces fell into place. There are still holes, of course - but let's call it "room for imagination".... ;-) All in all: Thanks a lot, and keep up the great work! Stefan Hundhammer Germany |

Im very greatful for this site. And I havnt read it all yet. But when I turn my lights off and play it loud, I know where to go when there is something I dont understand. I was hoping it wasnt just me, and that there are fragments that are understood better by the natives. Marillion grows on you, and I can never go back now. Even though I am a girl and dont know too many freaks, my passion for them just grows. See u guys on Marillion weekend! Thanks... |

Call me loyal to Fish, but that's all I know or want to. Bought the 2CD re-masters, the OOP import stuff, anything before 1987, I'm there! Have two different versions, of "La Gazza," etc. Was also just wondering.. heard that there might be a FISH band REUNION coming up in 2002 for some kind of benefit.. any truth to the rumors? | Comments: | In response to Sergio below:
1) The name of Lenin was Vladimir Ilich, Lenin was his nickname. Indeed you are correct: Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov on April 22, 1870 in the city of Simbirsk on the Volga River. Like "Stalin" for Dzhugashvili, "Lenin" is one of several pseudonyms used by Mr. Ulyanov. Just as "Stalin" is said to be from the Russian root word "stal," meaning 'steel,' "Lenin" is based on the Russian root word "Lena," the name of a peaceful Siberian river that Lenin discovered during one of his exiles. From: http://www.acerj.com/CommOnline/Leninbio.htm I will add this info ASAP. 2) You fail to mention the internment camps for japanese-americans and germans-americans in the USA during WWII (which I think are also implied in the song). I think it is unlikely these are specifically implied since the song was about the European situation, but in its wider sense, the sentiments of the song apply equally. Cheers, Fraser |

Great site, though I think I might need some time to get to read all the explanations in it. I noticed some minor mistakes and omissions in your explanation of the song White Russians. 1) The name of Lenin was Vladimir Ilich, Lenin was his nickname. 2) You fail to mention the internment camps for japanese-americans and germans-americans in the USA during WWII (which I think are also implied in the song). Apart from those small details, I really enjoyed what I have seen of the site. Sergio Greetings from Argentina. |

Just had to send a mail to award you 10 points for a job well done. Bloody marvellous site, learned a few things. I was very much into Marillion back in the 80s. Fish's lyrics were fantastic and said so much to a adolescent dropped up to his neck in life, from a great height :-) It inspired me to write a few songs myself, but they are lost now. Once Fish left, so did I though, Clutching at straws was the last album as far as I was concerned. good work mate Jack |
