Comments:Interesting points! Over the years, we've noticed that
Pagans in the DFW area are VERY DIFFERENT in many ways from
Pagans in other states. Because we do a lot of
charity/community work, we've personally never had a
problem with being "persecuted" for being Pagan! We've been
volunteers with many groups in various churches, helping
with the needs of the general community, being accepted for
WHO we are as caring human beings. However, anytime we've
tried to get the Pagan community in DFW area to join us to
do good work, there is always excuses, objections! We've
also noticed rudeness from many local "Pagans" towards
elders/crones, and handicapped. Lots of hypocrites! This
behavior tends to give "outsiders" the wrong impression and
needs to be corrected ASAP. Because of this continued
attitude in the DFW area, we've decided to make plans to
move out of this area to an area of Pagans that practice
what they preach! They do community/charity work, keep
local food banks supplied, visit nursing homes, fund
raisings for sick children, hospitals, clean up parks and
highways. We've become very disillusioned with area "so
called Pagans." We've also noticed far too much "politics"
and power trips for the majority of local Pagans! *I met my
first AUTHENTIC (not book taught) witch in 1954, when I was
only 10 years old, first teacher. She was a 9th generation
witch, teachings handed down to her from mother,
grandmother, great grandmother. NO BOOKS in her home, not
needed! What she taught me was totally different from what
I see and hear in "modern day Pagans." Her teachings were
simple, basic, none of the drama, costumes, props, etc.
As a child, I lived in England and Celtic traditions there
are quite different from American "versions" most only read
about in some book. I & my family prefer to practice the
OLD WAYS, the original ways of witchcraft. We rarely see
this practice now but in few genuine witches, many taught
by generations of practicing witches. Our concern is WHAT
the "modern day witches" might be "teaching" the young and
impressionable! We've seen some twisted info being taught,
which is alarming to us "old witches." I was not born into
a Christian family, never had to make the "conversion" like
we see often in so many "newbies" that get confused! We
find ourselves dropping out of a lot of these "groups" now,
prefer to practice OLD WAYS, on our own. You are
right...there is a lot of false info being passed around
various groups that really believe they are superior and
can do all the teaching to the newcomers! So many are on
huge ego power trips. This attitude is hurting the
witchcraft communities! Especially when they speak with the
news media! Over the years, we've stood by, watched so
many "Pagan Wars" and groups split up, nasty battles. We've
seen more harm than good come of a lot of it. We've watched
various ones that exalt themselves as "all knowing"
actually compete against others and other groups. As long
as such "wars" exist within the communities, progress is
difficult. All that energy SHOULD have been directed more
towards doing GOOD for all communities...all races,
religions, status, etc. to help heal the planet! It has all
been a sad disappointment in the DFW area. We have spoken
with others that feel the same way, retreated away from
the "battle scenes." We hope this changes, for the better
someday. BB, Gypsy & Family
