| Comments: | We've always owned large breed dogs, after our 100lb. german shepherd passed we decided not to get another dog. After awhile we found the house to quiet and clean. I started checking out toy breed dogs and found that a Papillon pup would be the perfect dog for us. Our Pixie was only 8wks old when she come to live with us, she is now 6 months and a real joy. What a fun, lively, and smart dog. I'm actually thinking about a second Pap. If anyone with a Papillon lives in Maine I would love to hear from them. |

Studies have shown the duration of protective immunity as measured by serum antibody titers against rabies virus to persist for seven years post-vaccination, and results of a 1992 French challenge study led by Michel Aubert demonstrated dogs were immune to rabies five years after vaccination. Researchers believe the rabies vaccine causes the most and worst adverse reactions in animals and concur that it should not be given more often than is necessary to maintain immunity. Adverse reactions to rabies vaccination can include autoimmune diseases affecting the thyroid, joints, blood, eyes, skin, kidney, liver, bowel and central nervous system; anaphylactic shock; aggression; seizures; epilepsy; and fibrosarcomas at injection sites. Dr. Schultz states that “[s]howing that a vaccine for rabies can provide 5 or preferably 7 years of immunity would have great significance not only in controlling rabies but more importantly in reducing the adverse vaccine reactions that can occur in dogs and cats after vaccination." I live in Michigan and I have 2 wonderful Papillons and soon will be adding a little girl to the collection. I co-own a couple of these with a friend and have recently gotten into showing them. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish my boy in conformation and have a nice stud dog. I'm sure within 2 years we'll be on our way to whelping a litter too. That's kind of scary, but we have a great breeder (D'Vine Papillons) who has already been a great help. I have not been able to train him out of it but I have trained him to attack a certain toy instead of people's feet.... he still needs to be reminded at times. | Comments: | Have just been given a Papillon dog that belonged to a close friend who died in June after a year-long illness with cancer. Would like to know more about this breed of dog and some tips on caring for her.
My friend got the dog from the SPCA several years ago. It is a female and has been spayed. She is a very cute dog; loves to play with squeaky toys. My friend kept her indoors. She had a pet door, and the dog would go and come as needed. My friend would also take her for a walk in the neighborhood once a day until her health failed. After my friend's death in June, 2003, the dog was given to her caretaker, who kept the dog outdoors, for the most part. The caretaker also has an 18-month old baby. She decided that she could not continue to keep the dog because of the baby, so she gave the dog to me. It is a precious little dog; however, the hair on its tail is not as long as shown in the pictures. Would appreciate any information you can lend me about this breed of dog. When we lived in the Los Angeles, CA, we adopted a 6-year-old female who was retired by her breeder. Our beautiful Latta died of congestive heart failure last year after living with us for 8 years. We love our Paps, and hope to adopt another next year.

She is incredibally smart and very affectionate when she wants to be. Papillons are very clean dogs and easy to train. When I first brought Holly to the vet for a check-up the vet told me that Papillons were known to have "attitudes", at the time I had no idea what she was talking about, later i found out. |

| Comments: | I am trying to find a picture of a "phalene" as I think it may be the little dog which we have rescued and brought back to England with us, from Madeira.( Being used as a foot ball by the local kids, and covered in bumps and bruises, plus being very,very thin) The nearest pic I could find belongs to Barbara Osborne, so perhaps this sweet little dog is a pap after all!
