Comments:During the last couple of years I've crossed the border (from the US to Canada) at Peace Arch a couple of times, but never realised the significance of the monument. After reading the info on this website, we made a stop and wandered around the park. Especially the inscription 'May these gates never be closed' is a wish I think we all have!

Comments: Hello,
This is Anne from Trinidad &Tobago.
I am writing from the hospital in Cote D'Ivoire, therefore this mail is very urgent as you can see that I am going home.

I was told by the doctor that I was poisoned and has got my lever damaged and can only live for some months.
I inherited some money ($28.725 Million) from my late father and I cannot think of anybody trying to kill me apart from my step mother in order to inherit the money, she is an Ivorien by nationality.

I want you to contact my servant with this informations below:
Mr Augustin Maranatha.
Address: Rue De La Princess L/G 152 Cocody
Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire.
Tel: +22502302933.
Email augustin_maranatha@excite.com

He will give you the documents of the money and will direct you to a well known lawyer that I have appointed to him, the lawyer will assist you to change the documents of the money to your name to enable the bank transfer the money to you.

This is the favour I need when you have gotten the money :-
(1) Give 10% of the money to my servant, Mr Augustin as he has been there for me throught my illness and I have promised to support him in life. I want you to take him along with you to your country and esterblish him as my son.
(2) Give 10% of the money to Charity Organisations and Churches on my name so that my soul may rest in peace.

&nbs p; Note:
This should be a code between you and Mr Augustin in this transactioin "Hospital" any mail from him, the barrister he will direct you to, without this code "Hospital" is not from the barrister, Augustin, the bank or myself as I don't know what will happen to me in the next few hours.

(2) Request the lawyer's international passport, his name is Mc Lambert. And Let Augustin send you his National ID as he has no passport to be sure of whom you are dealing with. Augustin is so little therefore guide him.

I will send you my personal documents when I hear from you just as i have attached my picture in the hospital.

And if I don't hear from you within two days, I will look for another person.
May God bless you and use you to accomplish my wish.
Pray for me always.
Anne Nanda Bates.
Thank you Holy Father.

Comments:Aaron, I love your sculpture! It's so good to see you. I told Rob I talked to you tonight.

That is such a great thing you did... to have kids and others put their wishes in your peace sculpture what a great idea. My son Sam was in a support group for Cancer and they put their worries in a balloon when their group ended. I think wishes are much better then worries, I think that is better for healing. Rob had Cancer 3 years ago, he is in remission.
It was Testicular Cancer, which has a very high survival rate. He is very healthy now and plays ice hockey with Sam and both are on a team.

Comments:In American, Canadian, and Mexican history, our borders have actually usually been totally open.

This fact is never mentioned by the media.

Even in the War of 1812, there were no sentries posted at the borders between Canada and the U.S.

At the moment, North Americans are closing their borders and installing Stasi style surveillance equipment while Europe continues to have truly open borders - no stops, no customs, no immigration checks between Euro- countries - just like between U.S. states - no border stops or checks. Scores on non-European Union member countries also have joined this border-treaty system of Europe. (Like Iceland and Switzerland).

Freedom, not border bureaucracies, is the way to go.

God damned the Nazis and all who worship their ways!

I say, "end the border bureaucracy" which is stifling social, cultural, and economic progress in North America.

Trade and travel between the U.S., Canada and Mexico should be as free as within those countries, just as Europe has now pretty much implemented. (If you don't know that, I feel sorry for you!)

May the border be returned to its former "open" status as the Peace Arch commemmorates.

The present situation with severely restricted trade and travel is a lie which blasphemies the Peace Arch!

Comments:Why don't you just say that a formerly open border between two nations led by great men, has been closed now that the respective two nations are now led by morons?

Open borders are more common in other parts of our world like Africa, Europe, and the Orient.

Now that I think about it, only in North America are we heading backwards in terms of borders.

At least Peace Arch Park remains to remind of of "former greatness"

George

P.S. There is no longer a 3000 mile unguarded border between the U.S. and Canada, but many contracts which will enrich the rich even more than ever before while Canada and America are drawn apart.

A circle of native grasses around the circumference represents the Mother earth, of our indiginous people. Within the circle is the symbol of life plus symbols of each of the major religions displayed in a different color of flowers. Each spiritual tradition was developed as mankind's way of connecting with their own concept of the Divine. I believe it is time to stop fighting over who is right! In mid summer I have a garden party with guests from all religions.

Comments:Globalovement for world peace, is a newly formed international NGO base in nigeria. The primary objectives of the young NGO is conflict provention.
We congratulate you on your effort in bringing peace the world over. Your ideas toward peace is in propinquity to ours in GMWP. It is our dream to send two of our staff to attend your last conference, but the date clash with one of our important programmes on peace in one of the Nigerian state. Yet we want to actualise our dream by sending the said two to come and have some usefull discussion with your official in your office in USA.
One of the key issues to be discuss is the possibility of colaburation with your NGO to have a peace conference in Africa that can be sponsored by African union (AU)the propose conference will come handy in view of the current problem in DAFUR region of Sudan. As you are aware nigeria will host the next African union meeting comes july 2005.
If our request is granted we need an invitation letter from your office through our email then copy the US embassy in nigeria to make easy their visa documentation .GMWP have concluded arregement for their trip to and from USA together with their hotel accomudation . their names are as follows (!) Favour E. OLANITORI( Asst.Director conflict Resolution )(2)Jannifer Mario(Asst Director Reseach) further agreement can be reach if your favourable response on the propose conference and colabulation with GMWP is comminicated to us . We await for your timely response. We should be glad if the invitation date will be between the first and the second week of september 2004.That will enable our staff to come back to Nigeria and attend our up coming conference on peace and good governace 30th september.
Thanks you very much

Comments:It is a fine website, and the perfect forum for calling attention to a new book A Deadly Fog: Pith and Conflict, which portrays war in its various manifestations, historically and as we witness war around the world, today. Through stories, essays, poems and importantly art, it draws the reader through the voice of the poet and the eye of the artist in a relentlessly moving expression of how war brings whole societies to their knees, killing, maiming and displacing thousands of people, both civilian and combatant. Based partly on first hand experience and oft-heard narratives, the authors have endeavored to describe human emotion at the deepest levels of loss and longing. The work has been thoughtfully written so that although the subject is disturbing, the treatment is neither gruesome nor in poor taste making it suitable for most all ages. A Deadly Fog combines surrealism, realism, satire and irony set into a backdrop of unimaginable sacrifice, cruelty, and hubris, not as a paean to honor war, but to argue against its glorification. Its authors, a father and son collaboration (writer and artist respectively), inspire others to raise their voices in protest against war as solution to problems in integration, poverty (starvation, sickness), natural resources (water, oil and land) and political ideology. It’s a good read.

My memory is of picnicing families intermingling from both sides of the border. Of children smelling the roses, hiking all over, and chatting with the officials at the duty free shops. All so long ago. Cool.

Comments:I have so many memories of the Peach Arch. I grew up in Blaine (Angela Rogers). As a young child I was in blue birds/brownies, and I remember doing some sort of flag exchange there. Growing up I remember going there to play. I remember as a teen, going there with Jodi (Smith), Izzy (Button), and someone else went with us, but I can't remember who it was, and we ran around there one evening... just goofing off. I remember when I was part of the Blaine Royalty and going through the Peace Arch quite often... going to different parades and pageants. I remember when I graduated in 1985 having our graduation at the Peace Arch. And last but not least... my husband and I had our first kiss there at the Peace Arch. So... yes the Peace Arch has numerous memories.

Comments:To whom it may concern,

I have interest in starting a sculpture park in Bozeman, MT and was looking for information on how such a park could be structured.

The ideas that we have currently are:

1. Park is owned by the City (1+ acres)

2. The University Art department would sponsor competitions for the work to be displayed

3. The works would be dynamic in nature (they would change every 6 months to a year with new works)

4. There would be a portion of the sites set aside for the university and the rest for the Community artists

Specific questions:

A. What is the format for submitting a work to the park?

B. What are the guidelines for the work ie. Safety, stability, durability?

C. How is the park policed (gates, entrances, fences)?

D. Who has the liability for damages both to people and the sculpture?

I would appreciate any and all advice that you may be able to provide me on this matter. Thank you for your time in considering my questions.

Best regards,

Erik Nelson
