| Comments: | I too became diabetic at the age of 11 (1965)..I gave up having children because of DM.I have a great fear of becoming a blind amputee on dialysis with heart disease.The most challenging part of DM is that it is a 24/7 disease (no remissions etc).I thought that there would be a cure in my lifetime but I am still waiting. Pumping has made my life more normal (if that is possible)and it is in a way a good form of advertisement for DM. I explain the pump and thus the disease itself to try and make people more aware of what life is like for a DM..it is surprising how little people really know.Well thats it in a nutshell..thanks

| Comments: | My mother is an only child. Her father was insulin dependent. For how many years I do not know. They say diabetes skips a generation. I am the youngest of three children. We are all past the age of 30, which is usually when they start checking for diabetes if your family has a history. I went for an annual check up last year and she did a test on me. The first one I've ever had and she didn't like what she saw. I really didn't elaborate on it but it is time for my annual check up again and I am going to request that they do the test again and have them explain more to me. My father's father has recently acquired diabetes in his late 80s and is insulin dependent now. They have had a hard time regulating it and it gave the whole family a scare. I am always trying to do a little research here and there on diabetes just in case one of us children or any of my nieces or nephews acquires it. I had spent a few minutes on your web site and found it very helpful and interesting. I hope you and yours are doing just fine now and in the future. |

Though not a diabetic myself, my interest stems from watching Suzie deal with this illness. Also, as a nursing student, from seeing 1/3 of the people hospitalized due to diabetes itself or from it's complications. I hope you have much success with your insulin pump.
