Comments: I was glad to find your page on Foxfire- you're right, there really are very few pages out there on it. I would have to say that I'm coming from the other side of the fence, having seen the movie and not read the book (yet). Having seen it without the bias of the original book, I would give the film more points than you did. True, it deviates from the book, but assessing it on its own merits, the acting is very good without adhering too closely to beauty standards, the subject matter is sorely needed in the modern world, and the imagery was well done, including the spray-painted quote from the book in the skateboard park. The movie helped me to finally articulate my feminist feelings at 13, when I felt really troubled by the patriarchal world but didn't even know how to feel about it. I would credit Foxfire as a film for a major part of the foundation of my feminism and self-confidence as a girl.

Comments: I think this a nice, and pretty inclusive sight as far as
giving a brief intro into the Foxfire phenomenon. However,
I don't really think the attitude taken toward the film is
very well founded. yes, the two media (the book and the
film) are different, but I thnk a lot of the changes that
were made were very audience-centered. For people to
absorb humanistic themes from a text, they have to view it,
it has to be appealing, and it has to be at least realistic
enough to make them suspend their disbelief for just a
moment. Audiences of film are, on the whole, much less
imaginative and much less interested in thinking than they
are in looking.

Thanks for this sight though, Foxfire is one of my
favourite books- AND movies!

Wow, i just love your page. I am obsessed by Foxfire!!!! I

each of them. I never saw the movie but it looks different.
the book is amazing!!!!!! These girls got everything under
control except the car crash and the kidnapping. They got
power. They are girls!!!!!!! This is a great book and every
girl such ready it. Make your friends read it and make a

I'm pretty sure there are some replica 'girl gangs' in my city, "FOXFIRE BURNS AND BURNS" is written in every bathroom stall I ever go into... but I admit that the first few times I saw it I felt a sense of understanding and now I'm writing it and the other proverbs too.

first year unschooling. At first I was angry that I didn't
learn about it sooner.. I felt like I had wasted away most
of my life in public schools [i'm in ninth "grade" this
year] but I feel so lucky to have discovered unschooling
when I did and rise out of school and drop into life so to
speak :) I love how unschooling for me is all about seizing
the day, when only a year ago I thought the only way I could
seize the day was by going off to live in the woods like
Thoreau.
BTW, I visited this site awhile back and saw the thing about
Ishmael. I'm reading "Ishmael" right now, and I LOVE it :)

Comments: It's so funny, because there's a videotape of Amandine going
to the guestbook on your site. And it has Amandine going
"My URL...what's my URL? What's a URL?" And I believe the
tape ends with her saying those words. I was videotaping it,
totally bugging her and her cousin was sitting on the bed
writing in his journal. I was videotaping that too. They
didn't like it. It was a boring 3 minute movie.
So I never knew any of this stuff about you...about the
whole schooling thing. I always wanted to know, but you
never liked explaining it in words--spoken words, that is.
(I can relate, being a total social phobic myself) And it's
so interesting how we both worked out...Thornton helped me
so incredibly much with my schooling and I actually learned
to enjoy it. You, on the other hand, had a better time
teaching yourself. I wish I could do that. (Actually, I'm
trying with this Psychology class I'm taking.) We kept
loosing communication and I never knew what was on your
mind. Now I know!! I'm so happy. I'll have to go see Cat's
website after I'm done looking at yours...

Comments: As I hold a Phd. in Anthropology, let me first say that your insistance on Archeologists making diffinitive scientific statements about both Paleolithic and Neolithic human culture proves that your theories are totally incorrect.My exact specialty is early man, and I would be the first to tell any Archeologist to keep his nose in his own field, and stay out of mine. Only Anthropologists are qualified to make conclusions about early human culture. By the way early H/Gs'were migratory, and the earliest attempts at agriculture ocurred between 9800 and 10,000 years ago, and Paleo and Noelithic periods were devided by the change in the style of stone implaments used by the peoples, and the advent of non religeous rock art and sculpture. Not the advent of agriculture. I don't believe you will allow this to stay in your book for long, as the purvayors of falsa infomation want to be exposed, but at least you know that one person who saw your sight knows that you are a fraud who hasn't got the slitest idea of what your talking about. Too bad that others won't be able to see the truth so that they wont be taken in by your lies.
