| Comments: | Hi my dad (Norman, brother of one) was born in North London, son of John Walton Hurwood (born in Wembley and brother of 9 others) who was son of Walter Hurwood, who I believe was son of another Walter Hurwood, allliving in or around Wembley north london.
The stories in our family are that they descended from family in Yorkshire a family of tailors, also rumours that there was a family coat of arms showing a raven against a woodland background with an arrow through its heart suggesting links to woodland working of some description. |

Great job on the website! Very nicely constructed. I'm a direct descendant of Herbert Sparks (great-grandfather), Florence M Sparks' brother (John Marriott Leather's - what a great name - wife). It was nice to find ANY info on that Sparks family, post 1880 census. Most of that family seems to have vanished, and I haven't had time to contact the Mobile Alabama people for more details. Just in case you want it, my records show that Florence's father and mother were Robert Frederick Sparks and Sarah Suther Mackay. RHS was born in London area ca. 1836 and SSM was born in Nova Scotia, ca 1835. Florence and the rest of her english sibs were born in the Liverpool, England area, between 1862 and 1870. |

that my grandfather was Arthur Hurwood, born 1884, killed in action 1917, he was married to Harriet (Boby). His father was John Hurwood, a French Polisher in Victorian North London and I'm afraid that is about all that I know, except that Arthur had a number of brothers/sisters, but they did not remain in contact with my grandmother or my father. My father had a younger brother Stan, who married Ivy, and they had two children Carol and Eric. I have a brother Peter, and two sons, William and Duncan, both married, William (& Lee) living in Washington DC, Duncan (& Heidi) at Bath. |

us! I was born in North London on 5.7.45. I have an older brother Albert born 18.6.44 and a younger sister Patricia born 8.2.47. Our father was William John Hurwood born 3.12.08. He married my mother Bridget Waugh on 4.12.42 or '43. He had a lot of brothers and sisters, some of whom are:- Frank,who married Louie Albert;Les who married Alice;Tony who married Betty;and Ethel who married Tom. I think my grandmother's name was Fanny. I didn't know my grandfather, who I believe was called John and was a butcher. I believe that my grandparents were originally living in Oxford and moved to Stonebridge in North London. We lived in Harlesden and all of my uncles and aunts and cousins lived around the area, Frank and his family lived in Hendon. My father died in 1983, my mother is still alive, though in bad health. I would be very interested in hearing from any one who has any information on this branch of the family. |

Mary - my mother is also Mary Hurwood! and my great great grandmother (the daughter of R T Reed I mentioned before) was also Mary Hurwood. I also have the names of two of my grandfather's (Henry) sisters - they were Maud and Ethel; I haven't got the third sister's name to hand. My great grandfather (Anthony, son of Anthony) married Margaret Dixon Pottinger. She was the daughter of George Pottinger and his wife Jane (nee Burkitt). My grandfather was born on 24th August 1888 and died on 1st June 1964. I have a newspaper cutting of his wedding to my grandmother - Enid - from the Kent Messenger, dated April 21, 1923. to work it fully! My email address hasn't been used yet! We live in Leicestershire; my grandfather, Henry Hebden Hurwood, left North Yorkshire to go to university at Durham. He then moved to Kent as a priest. He was the youngest child of Anthony Hurwood (address at one time was 36 Woodbine Street, Westoe), and I understand he had older sisters, though no brothers. My grandfather married a doctor's daughter, Enid Sells. My grandfather's grandfather was also called Anthony. This Anthony had married Mary, who was the daughter of R.T.Reed of Allerthorpe Hall - which is near Pickhill. She died in 1891 aged 63 years. My father David Sells Hurwood was brought up in Kent, qualified as a doctor and moved to Leicestershire, where I was born. I am also a doctor, as is my father's brother, Hubert Anthony Hurwood(known as Tony). I am married to Dinah, and we have two children, Philippa (born 1982) and Guy (born 1984).
