Suggestions:
Eroticism always had been one of the motors of human being ¿Is it still a motor at the present time? ¿Was it affected by the actual global crisis? Consider the option to work about eroticism as a theme in all the possible ways, the requiered size is suitable to develop it, and it will be interesting to prove how the actual crisis is affecting eroticism in connection with Postal Art.

NONE OF THE ABOVE:
Assembling, Collaborating and Publishing in the Eternal Network

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

In an ambitious assembling-style project, Minnesota Center for Book Arts invites any and all to send 125 copies of anything (within reason – see below) that will fit into a 9” x 12” envelope. This project is in conjunction with MCBA’s upcoming exhibition None of the Above: Assembling, Collaborating and Publishing in the Eternal Network.

An assembling project represents the ultimate in democratic art. Everything submitted will be included in the publication (or series of publications, depending on how many people participate). In return for your efforts, you receive a selection of 89 different works created by others who participate.

Who’s invited? Artists, writers, printmakers, zinesters, poets, photographers, xerographers, pamphleteers, cartoonists, diagrammers, visualists, mail-artists, transitionalists, minimalists, maximalists, pencilers, stencilers, composers, medics, bookleteers, decoders, conceptualists, transcribers, documentarians, historians, storytellers, manifestoans, CDsters, designers, anti-artists, ventriloquists (make the paper sing!), book artists, book artists who are ventriloquists, whoever so chooses and those chosen – meaning you! Plus, you can exercise reckless editorial control or lack thereof by forwarding this invitation to others.

What to send? Any means of expression is fine (paper, CDs, stickers, popsicle sticks) but it can be no larger than 8.5” x 11” (21.6 cm x 27.9 cm) and 1/8” thick (.3 cm). It can be folded, stitched, crushed, flattened, etc. Shrunk-via-shrink-ray submissions are okay. If you need a theme, submissions will be compiled in publications titled “None of the Above.” How’s that for clear direction?

How many to send? Submit 125 copies. 89 of these will go to other participants. Additional copies will be archived, distributed to donors/volunteers, and a small number will be sold as a fundraiser for MCBA.

What else to send? So that we can send you your copy of the publication, include a sheet of paper with your name and postal address. Also include $5 in U.S. funds – checks payable to Minnesota Center for Book Arts – to cover the cost of envelopes and postage.

Where to send: None of the Above, c/o Minnesota Center for Book Arts, 1011 Washington Ave South, Suite 100, Minneapolis, MN 55415

Deadlines: If we receive submissions by August 21, 2009, they will be displayed as part of the associated exhibition. To be included in the publication, submissions must be received no later than October 24, 2009.

A special collating event will occur at MCBA on Saturday, October 24, 2009. For those who would like to participate, you may bring your 125 copies that evening rather than mailing. There is no fee. Please email Jeff Rathermel, MCBA’s Artistic Director (jrathermel@mnbookarts.org) by October 16, 2009 if you will be participating. Arrive at 7 pm, assembly lines commence at 7:30 pm.

If you have questions about the publication, contact Jeff Rathermel at jrathermel@mnbookarts.org. To learn more about Minnesota Center for Book Arts, visit www.mnbookarts.org.

Comments:JOYOUS HEALING MAILART FOR HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN

International mailart call; open ended, no time limit

Call for mailart to be given to children who are inpatients on a hospital for children somewhere in the world. Make them smile; give them hope and joy and tell them that someone in the United States not only cares for them but sends them joy and hope and healing.

All submitted art should be two dimensional, any size ranging from a minimum of standard postcard size at approximately 3.5 by 5 inches (9cm. by 13 cm. ) to 9 by 12 inches (23cm. by 30.5cm) maximum. Printable electronic submissions are also acceptable. All media are welcome; the art need not be original. (it may include stickers, artist's trading card, rubber stamps, multiple media, and the like.) We want the art to come from the artist's heart, through the artists' hands. All art must be positive, upbeat, and just plain wonderful.

Submitted art will be screened by Dr. Estelle Toby Goldstein, psychiatrist, specializing in alternative, non-drug treatments, for its suitability for this project.

All accepted art will be depicted and acknowledged on our designated website.

Please send all snail mail submissions to:

Comments:The Art of Communication: An Installation of Mailed Art

(Swainsboro, GA) – Gallery RFD seeks submissions for it upcoming exhibition titled The Art of Communication: An Installation of Mailed Art.
Gallery RFD presents its 3rd annual exhibition of The Art of Communication: An Installation of Mailed Art. The Grange movement of the late 1800’s helped create RFD (Rural Free Delivery) by lobbing for the postal service to deliver mail to the peoples of rural communities as they did their urban clientele. Gallery RFD similarly advocates offering rural residents the same resources and access to the arts that urban areas already have.
The Art of Communication is an exhibition about using opportunities, like the mail system, that our forbearers fought for so that we might more freely communicate our ideas, emotions, and expectations with each other. Artists of all ages, skill level, and geography are asked to create work on any item that
can be sent through the postal service. Awards will be given for: Best of Show, Farthest Traveled, and the "Outside the Box" award. All works submitted will be exhibited.
Submission deadline: Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 4 p.m. (EST)
Exhibition runs Jan. 10 - Feb. 7, 2009
Opening Reception: Jan. 10, 2009, 5-8 p.m.

Further details and prospectus available on the Gallery RFD website: www.galleryrfd.org

A new publication of art and writing. Open submission. No poetry. The intention is to distribute it internationally, to create a community on paper. First issue due February 2008. Please forward to anyone you feel might be interested in contributing or post this on suitable art/writing forums etc. No artwank please.

Each issue will be black and white, colour cover, free inserts/gifts. The initial run is expected to be 200 copies and ideally we want to double that with each subsequent issue. Now there's a home for your doodles. I'm starting a zine just for doodlers called Oodles of Doodles. It's a 22-page, black & white, digest size art zine for doodlers to share their doodles.
There's no deadline. When one if filled, I'll start a new one.
No size restriction, doodles are no larger than a piece of paper anyway.
Medium is usually a pen or marker.

Comments:Psychic TV Mailart

OK, hands up who remembers the great 80s band Psychic TV ? Founded by the legendary Genesis P-Orridge it's fanclub TOPY (Temple Ov Psychick Youth) became a kind of modern day cult, exploring the boundaries of Chaos Magic and Thelema. The Psychic Cross symbol (trademark wholly owned by Genesis P-Orridge etc etc) intertwined with the synchronistic number 23 cropped up everywhere from album covers to tatoos to the necks of other musicians such as Sleep Chamber.

Ironically Genesis was involved in mailart himself (together with Monte Cazzazza) and suffered at the hands of the British postal service for the items they sent through the mail. Interestingly the primary medium Genesis employed was collage. This later developed further into the Sigils of TOPY which were more aligned to works of collage than the traditional sigils of hermetic and solomonic magic.

Comments:Mail art call - Honduras, Central America

THEME: “Merry Christmas”

Comment: artist Jorge Restrepo (www.jorgerestrepo.com) will make an installation in the Spanish Cultural Center, Tegucigalpa, Honduras (Central America). The mail-artworks will show the reality of the world, the extreme differences in religion, social classes, justice, poverty, income, access to water, languages…of different countries….of the world. While some people are partying and celebrating, gambling…vacationing…in December, others are suffering. Jorge Restrepo will create an environment of Christmas celebration at the exhibit rooms of the Center…using the mail-artworks. The observer to the exhibit will feel the sensation of Christmas decoration. When attendants look in detail to the decoration (mail-artworks simulating Christmas cards and messages) the reality of the world will appear…dramatically…in from of their eyes…

Electronic documentation to all. Please send Email address, name and postal address.

Format and medium: free, maximum A4 (letter) . All work be exposed, mail art, stamps, visual poetry, others. No returns.

Deadline: November 30, 2007

The 1st. International Mail Art Exhibition in Malaysia was exhibited at the Galeri Seni, Faculty of Art & Design, MARA University of Technology, Shah Alam, Malaysia, from September to October 2006 (http://imagmailart.tripod.com).

The exhibition was a joined organization between the I-MAG (International Mail Art Artists Group) and the Faculty of Art & Design. Artists from 51 countries participated in the exhibition and more than 100 guests attended the opening ceremony. This is an encouraging development of mail art in this country since it was the first mail art exhibition in Malaysia. And because of this, the exhibition extended for two months.

With the success from the first exhibition, we have moved to a commercial gallery in Kuala Lumpur. Kebun Mimpi Art Gallery is located in Bangsar, an art town of Kuala Lumpur.

We invited artists all over the world to contribute their work in this exhibition called the 1st MoSA Collections Exhibition (http://mosacollections.tripod.com)
You can send up to 8 artworks, on paper or canvas (drawing, painting, linoprint, silkscreen, etching ect), sized A4 (21 x 30 cm) or A3 (31 x 42 cm). There is no participation fee. We have frames ready for those sizes. Every artwork of those sizes will receive a certificate of appreciation from MoSA to acknowledge your mail art is in our permanent collection.

However, you may also send in postcard sized artwork for the exhibition. We can only accept 2D work and normal post (express courier not accepted).

Every participation, please include:-
1. Full name
2. Address
3. Country
4. Title of work
5. Media
6. Year
7. E-mail address
8. Telephone no. (please state country area code)

Each artwork will be exhibited at the 1st MoSA Collection Exhibition, Kebun Mimpi Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur. Documentation will be launched online at
http://mosacollections.tripod.com

and once again printed documentation after the exhibition.
Artworks will not be returned and become the collection of MoSA. Artworks will be exhibited from time to time at public galleries as an extension of knowledge to public viewers as well as enriching the Malaysian visual arts scene.

Closing date is at 5 pm, 15 August 2007

Gemarimba Art Gallery
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA

The Gemarimba Art Gallery is located in Bangsar, an art town of Kuala Lumpur.

We invited artists all over the world to contribute their work in this exhibition called the 1st MoSA Collections Exhibition (http://mosacollections.tripod.com)

You can send up to 8 artworks, on paper or canvas, sized A4 or A3. There is no participation fee. We have frames ready for those sizes. However, you may also send in postcard sized artwork. We can only accept 2D work and normal post (express courier not accepted).

Every participation, please include:-

1. Full name

2. Address

3. Country

4. Title of work

5. Media

6. Year

7. E-mail address

8. Telephone no. (please state country area code)

Every one of the participation will receive certificate of participation from MoSA and each artwork will be exhibited at the 1st MoSA Collection Exhibition, Gemarimba Art Gallery, Kuala Lumpur.

Documentation will be launched online at (http://mosacollections.tripod.com) and once again printed documentation after the exhibition.

Artworks will not be returned and become the collection of MoSA (museums of Small Arts). Artworks will be exhibited from time to time at public galleries as an extension of knowledge to public viewers as well as enriching the Malaysian visual arts scene.

Closing date is at 5 pm, 15 August 2007

For further information please visit: http://mosacollections.tripod.com

Comments:Mail Art Call - Milagros (Miracles)
Deadline February 28th 2007

Milagros are traditional requests for and thanks for miracles in ones life. This snail mail call is for postcard sized pieces celebrating or desiring miracles. 3D and unusual ideas welcome, but please no sexually explicit materials. In Mexico and Latin America small metal milagros are often nailed to crosses and religious fixtures as expressions of joy and hope. Our call is not necessarily religious and we encourage celebration of all miracles.

Your mail call art will be:
1. Acknowledged via email if you include your email address
2. photographically posted individually on our blog at moltengeckoglassworks.blogspot.com
3. combined with all other received mail art and integrated with a glass sculptural piece as part of an interactive gallery installation on Milagros. Gallery visitors will be provided materials to create their own work to be added to the overall piece in a miracle of exponentially increasing size.

Comments:THE "Prometheus - Fire - Man" CALL

According to the mythology of ancient Greeks, Prometheus, the son of Titan Iapetus, after he created man from clay, he wanted to help man to his fight against the elements of the nature. Therefore, he stole the fire from the Olympian Gods and he delivered it to the people, an act that made Zeus furious. The father of Gods, in order to take his revenge from him, gave Ifestos (Vulcan) the order to enchain Prometheus to a rock of Caucasus, where an eagle, seated on his knees, was eating his liver. Hercules saved him from this torture, while passing from Skithia, on his way to the land of Esperides, when he saw him suffering and disregarding the threats of Zeus, he freed him after he killed with his bow the carnivore Bird. Prometheus, challenging and fighting with Gods, he opened the way for the conquest of nature from man and in this sense he is, fairly, regarded as the father of contemporary technological civilization.

The intention of Papadimitriou when starting these annual exhibitions was, primary, to make people living in the countryside more familiar with modern artworks, a movement aiming against the centralization of cultural life in the big cities, a phenomenon which characterizes our times. MAILPARAVION/AVIONPARMAIL

Dear mail artist,

Once upon a time Via Mecenate in Milan hosted an airplane factory. Mr. Giovanni Caproni founded it; with his aircrafts he filled the skies of the early XX Century.
In 1917, while his airplanes crossed Europe’s skies, Italy gave birth to its airmail system.
Before and after this, the War. After the War, nothing.

After years of abandonment, the property of MECENATE 79 restored the area and now requires creative projects for the utilization of the interiors of this impressive complex of industrial archaeology.
Contemporary atmospheres and urban quality make this area fascinating; a place where past and future converge, where progress and tradition become one.

Here we will organize a mail art and e-mail art exhibition; it will be focused on the concepts of flight and progress as bonds between tradition and future. It’s name will be mailparavion/avionparmail.

No return, no fee, free technique and dimentions.
You can send your work of art – preferably by September 15th 2005 – to:

AVIONPARMAIL
Via delle rose 7
21057 Olgiate Olona (Va)
ITALIA

Or to: avionparmail@yahoo.it.

Thank you.

Comments:Call for Mail Art!!!

The M.A.R.S. Project (Mobile Arts Road Show) launches this July. Primary exhibition sites will be in south-west Washington and Oregon along the Interstate 5 corridor and down the Washington and Oregon coast (including several college campuses, beaches, and freeway rest areas.) This is an open call and entries will be added to the exhibit as they arrive (although the exhibition might have to go “indoors” when the winter weather sets in, usually around September in this part of the U.S.)

There are no theme restrictions. If you want to create a “M.A.R.S. Project” logo or space / Martian / rocket ship / alien collage or cartoon that would be great, but it is not a requirement for inclusion in the exhibition. Because this is an outdoor project I want to be able to fit all of the exhibits into sheet protectors, so I’m asking for all entries to be 8 ½ by 11 inches or smaller, but other than this restriction any format will be accepted: Collages, cartoons, ATCs, postcards, envelope art, photography, anything, even 3D, as long as it fits in a sheet protector. Sequential works broken up over several 8 ½ by 11 “panels” (diptych, triptych, or longer) are also encouraged.

All entries become the property of the exhibit and will be scanned, archived, and posted on the M.A.R.S. Project site (along with any information about when and where the road show will be stopping next.) If you want production credits, email or snail mail addresses, or any other information posted (or not posted) along with your artwork (either at the live exhibit or on the site) don’t forget to include this with your entry.

Send entries to:

Comments:bonjour!

preamble:

i live in a group of 15 fantastic people. since the beginning of the year we have

participated in a weekly workshop taught by one of our housemates. so far, amongst other

things, we have made a portrait of chopin by the collage method, we have painted a stone age

universe picture and we have learnt how to juggle! on february 23, i have signed up to be

the guest professor and i would like to introduce my friends to the joys of mail art.
first i will explain what mail art is as best i can, with the help of some beautiful things

people have sent me, and then we will each make a unique postcard. i don't know what media

it will be in as we have carpenters, painters, water colourists, collagists etc etc but i am

sure they will all be very special. then we will address the postcards and i will send them

off to whoever has sent me their address. this is where you come in, gentle reader.
the idea would be for you to send me an email saying you are interested in this scheme, and

to give me your address. then sit still, remembering of course to breathe, until you

receive a postcard in the mail. next, make one yourself (however you want, i think its nice

if you are inspired by what you receive) and send it back to the name and address on the

postcard.
hopefully, the result is that everyone gets an original piece of art and everyone is happy.

hooray! i am asking for your adress in advance so we can get the postcards named and

addressed on the same day. everyone who is interested will get sent a card.

i am excited about this project and hope it works out.
if you are not interested in this particular mail art project but would like to correspond

with me, that is also cool, my adress is below.

cheers!

does, send a postcard you made back to the person who sent it! easy peasy!
media - postcard, open theme
materials - whatever works
payment- what?
documentation - you get to keep the postcard sent to you!
time limit - reply by feb 21

Comments:APPALLING PRESS & ARCHIVE is both an archive and an independent publishing house, so independent that it does not work for profit, only to produce and spread interesting materials and ideas. We operate under the logic of F©! [Fuck copyright!], that is the encouragement to reproduce and spread, by any means, what we publish.
We launch our first project: WIT-UPERIUM
A series of assembling volumes, made from the copies of the works sent by each artists. The underpinning idea of this assembly-zine is that of vituperium, invective, in a word “attack” against someone (a public name) or something (any kind of institution or product). Works will be bound in numbered volumes under the title of Wit-uperium, a title that underlines the indispensable characteristic: the attack and the sophistication of the attack, that cannot be a simple “fuck you!” but it has to bee mentally and esthetically compelling. Wit-uperium will be published two-three times a year. These are the technical aspects:

- Graphic work on any kind of surface (but not too heavy or thick – avoid metal and wood), format must be A4. Leave ½ a inch on the left short side of the sheet so that it can easily be bound.
- You must send 100 copies of your work (signed or not signed, it is up to you).
- It is possible to send PC files (no Mac, sorry!). If you send music files, an AVI video file, or if the file is too large (more than 100 MB) you should send 100 copies of the CD, otherwise 2 CDs are enough, we will take care of making copies.
- In the case of a DVD, you must provide 100 copies ready (possibly DVD-R Region-Free).
- Works not included in the volumes will not be returned.
- Once a work appears in Wit-uperium, following the above-mentioned F©!, it can be reproduced by any means, by anybody.
- All the artists whose works are selected, will receive a copy of Wit-uperium.
- There is no due date, but the first issue should be out in the Spring 2005.

Your entry can be any size, any medium, and you are invited to send more than one entry. The deadline for receiving entries is July 1, 2004. All entries will be displayed in our wonderful gallery space, and the opening of Solar Flair on July 10th will celebrate the Sun with Art, Jazz & Food on the banks of the Guadalupe River. The project looks to create a space of communication and exchange from a collective photographic production. The idea is to take out pictures, rewind the rolls and to get them used again by other people. It would happen, then, a second kind of exchange, in which every participant will share it’s results with the rest.

By this way we propose a reformulation of the possibilities that offers the photographic technique.
The rewind process allows to go again through a space apparently defined and closed. The photographic superposition breaks up with uniqueness , in terms of an indelible mark. In the face of what is defined, ambiguity prefixes, as a result of the simultaneous dialogue among what is covered and what is integrated. Chance takes placed in stead of control.

This proposal of social dialogue pretends to visualize the crossing of multiple realities and points of view, as well as to promote ties that would be communication generators.

We aspire that this project would work as a multiplier of experiences, taking the idea, repeating or reformulating it, expanding itself in different directions.

Instructions
1) Take pictures with a photographic camera.
2) Rewind the roll, living the remains of the picture out of it.
3) Send the roll to:

Proyecto Foto Sobre Foto
Casilla de Correo nº7
Sucursal 23 San Cristobal
CP:1933
Capital federal
Argentina

4) You will receive a photographic roll that was used by other person. Charge your camera whit it and take again pictures.
5) The result will be product of the recognition and interplay of views. We invite you to share the pictures, sending them in a digital format (JPG) to: arquitectura@arnet.com.ar . They will be moved up to this web site www.ardearte.com.ar where you will get to know other experiences

Comments:PAIN AND HOPE

Monica Arac de Nyeko, writer from Uganda, agreed to produce issue 5 of FRIOUR NETWORK MAGAZINE in 2004.
After issues on the war against Iraq, September 11, Mythology and Refugees
Monica proposes the theme of pain in the universe to the whole of the network community.
Asking her for a short statement on this theme, she wrote me:

Oh Yes, Pain, be free to determine what kind of suggestions you think should accompany the issue, but I am thinking pain in relation to hope. Pain and the way it relates to new beginnings. It's a little vague I should think, I would like to capture that journey that ends with pain and hurt, be it loss, suffering, hardship and where new journeys start, such as smiles, whispers, flowers, music, cleansing, even the abstract with positive messages. If u know what I mean.
Cheers
Monica

Comments:Dear fellow mailartists,
I recently gave an overview of mailart to a small group at a New England seaport art association. In an effort to raise awareness of mailart, the education director would like to display some pieces of mailart as well as introductory info so members, artists, and patrons can learn about mailart.
I am asking for your help. Would you please send her some mailart and anything else she might use on the bulletin board to show what mailart is all about? I think I have her interested enough to consider having a Mailart Show in the galleries, so the pieces you send her now could easily be shown as a MailArt 101 type of exhibit along with whatever theme we come up with for a future show.
(Some of you might remember a Valentine's Day mailart show held last yr. in Newburyport at the Firehouse Cultural Center, this art association is just down the road from there)

I guess you might call this an unofficial call for entries, and if you would like more info please contact me.
Thanks so much.
