He was apparently from Flagstaff AZ then later moved Bakersfield Calif where my mother Ada Mae Black was born. The family later moved to southern NM, the Deming NM area, and later Capitan toward the end of of his life. He was a well known cattleman with Kern Co Cattle in 1930's. His father was George Washington Black who was sheriff of Coconino County, i.e., Flagstaff, AZ at turn of century and lived there in his earlier years.

| Comments: | I came across your website by complete chance. I have been researching my gransparents' lives as part of a book I have in progress. The bizarre part is that I was actually researching my Welsh grandparents and on a whim looked up my Scottish (paternal) grandparents. You see, my father is Andrew Black Noble and I was directed to your site via the UK National Archives website. Maybe there was a limited number of surnames in 19th centruy Ireland! All I know is that my grandparents were from Burntisland (just across the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh) but were of Irish stock. I am well aware of the vast number of Irish & Scottish who migrated to Canada. It just seemed a strange set of coincidences - we are currently in the process of immigrating to Ontario ourselves and I was a bit taken aback by the sudden number of familiar names I encountered on your website, especially my father's name reverbrerating across several generations and an ocean. Anyway, its an excellent site & I know I'll be back to investigate more. You'll also be relieved to know that you are not related to this rambling idiot!

Ferdinand Charles Black. He would have possilby been born around 1860 or thereabouts. One of his children was also Ferdinand Charles Black born on December 14, 1884 in Red Oak, Iowa. I believe that his wife was Caroline Luker or Luther (the paper I have is hard to read but I really think it is Luker. Ferdinand Charles Black (the younger one) was my grandfather. The family never knew a lot about him. He claimed he had been orphaned and had a brother a bit older. I obtained his SS-5 form from Social Security today and that is how I found names of his parents. He married my grandmother in Kansas in March of 1910 I believe it was. My mother was born in 1912 and Uncle in 1916. My Uncle is Charles Alden Black and is still living. Presbyterian Cemetery near Pottsgrove, PA (Columbia or Montour County but Northumberland at the time of his death). Died 1833 aged 75 years. Also buried with him is wife Hannah, died 1847 aged 76 years. Buried in the same cemetery, but not with them is Robert, son of James and Mary Carter Black. Died 1848, aged 1 yr.
