|Comments:||Hello everyone, bear with me.and I'll tell you what little I know.My grandfather was Samuel Oren Latimer, and He married Abby Patton, they had quite a few children. and they mostly lived in Sulpher Springs Tx. also spending some time in Shamrock Tx.
From what my father told me the Latimers once upon a time owned most of the town of Greenville Tx.
But after Samuel's father died who I don't have any info on him, one reason being the records building in Greenville had burned down.
The family sold off a lot of the property. The Latimers and the Pattons are still very close and when we have family reunions during the Holidays there like over 50 grandkids both Latimers and Pattons!
My grandfather did have a brother, but all my dad knew about him was that he killed a sheriff who had killed his son. And he fled to Florida. I'm thinking sometime around WWII.
My father's only other memories are seeing the family crest when he was a child. I assume it was English.and that we may be related to Lady Latimer who was married to King HenryVIII.
Doing google searches I see that there is an old town in England called "Latimer" did our family originate from there I'm wondering?
anyways feel free to write any information would be greatly appreciated God bless!

|Comments:||It is nice to find this page. My Latimer line comes on my mother's side (Great Grand Mother) of the family which all came from Charles County, Maryland.
What has brought me to this site tonight is that I am trying to verify a connection between a James Latimer who died the 6th of December 1776 in Charles County, MD. and Jacob Latimer who lived in Charles County, MD. and by our family records it stated that James was the father of Jacob but when I read James' will he speaks of his son "James" my assumption is that his son James and my ancestor Jacob are the same person and his name was something like "Jacob James Latimer or James Jacob Latimer"....he was officially known as one name but was called by his middle name type of thing.
Can anyone please help me!

Hi! I am searching for information about Latimer family before 1840. My
great great grandfather was William Latimer from County Tyrone born in 1840.
He supposedly had a forge in Killyman, Tyrone, Ireland. His wife was named
Elizabeth (b. 1841), and he had children named Lucinda (b. 1863), William L.
(b. 1864), george R. (b. 1866, d. 1898), Henry J. (my great grandfather b.
1872), and John (b. 1872, d. 1956).
Any information to Latimer family members before William would be most

My great grandfather was Neville G Latimer, and he married Anne Mann in NSW Australia in 1886.
I have long had the belief through some distant relatives that our tree had a lot of American Latimers in it.
I have found a record of Neville G Latimer born in New Jersey in 1859. There are numerous Latimers born in New Jersey around this period. I have not yet found a record of him emigrating to Australia however.
Just wondering if anybody has a Neville G Latimer from New Jersey in their tree and if they know where he went from there.

|Comments:||I just finished a huge analysis based on recent discoveries and have the following for Arthur Latimer (b. abt. 1690) with children George, Robert, Susan, James, and Sarah. Note that Arthur may have a first son named Arthur (b. 1710) at this point in research, who settled in Northampton, Pa.
Here is the extented research and likely/possible breakdowns:
Millrow Presbyterian Church became 1st Antrim Presbyterian Church in 1860.
Arthur Latimer, b. abt 1690 (likely before that) in Antrim (likely not Newry).
Cavan Latimer family likely came from the offspring of on of Arthur's Brothers/Cousins (Brother John, brother/cousin Alexander)
Arthur's First Wife:
Mary Wilson 1687 Millrow Pres Ch, Antrim, Antrim, Parents
2nd Wife: Rebecca Whiteside M in Delaware
Arthur's likely siblings and he would be one of or the last born; Father trying to have males:
John 1684 (Has a son John born in 1710) M1708Millrow
Martha 1672 M1693Millrow
Anna 1682 M1706Millrow
Jenet 1676 M1697Millrow
John Latimer (Lattimer/Latimore) 1652
Mother 1656 ?
M: abt. 1677
Arthur possible Cousins, which suggests a brother of John:
Anna Latimore 1685 Antrim, Antrim
Alexander 1679 antrim, antrim, M1704Millrow; (son John born in 1710 Millrow, Sarah 1713); maybe Arthur brother/cousin?
David Latimoor Carnmoney (East of Antrim in Antrim Co); likely a nephew of Arthur's:
David's children: Agnes, Charles, Margrat, Sarah
I strongly believe that Arthur and Mary had another Son/Nephew named Arthur:
b. 1710 Ireland, Wife named Mary born in Ireland and married abt. 1730, could be brother/cousin Alexander's son and twin of Alexander's John or twin of brother John's John, wife and he died in Northampton Pennsylvania

|Comments:|| I have been researching for a few years now. I first took my mother's Lattimore/Latimer last name all the way back to the Arthur that no one seems to be able to find any more information on. Slowly, I have gathered up clues.
This is Arthur Latimer that came over in 1736. Five children with unknown mother, who apparently died in Ireland before he came over with his mostly adult children. All descendant listings show him as being born in Newry around 1690.
I am also slowly connecting the Latimers to the Barony line, which I am certain just about all Latimers fall off of at some point. I have simply researched the heck out of the 1600's, which is where the drop off seems to happen for most people in connecting them further back and to the barony. Or simply going back with your family history in general, as many towns were sacked or burned and plagues happened.
When I get a hunch, I'm more than not correct.
I found information that connected John McCalmont to Sarah, being Arthur's daughter. That may be well known, but the clue people overlooked is in the fact that the source I found points Arthur Latimer to Tyrone County, Ireland. Not Newry, though some of his youngest children were eventually born there.
I later found a Robert Latimer in the Hearth Report (census as per tax paid 1663 and 1666/67) related to Durgannon (spelling may range), which is about 32 miles from Belfast. Arthur's first one or two children were born in Belfast, which is where I am suspecting Arthur's unknown first Wife is from.
A little play on words too ... Arthur's will mentions a cozyn paly dargan, with dargan being very close to Durgannon. I believe Durgannon/Durgannan/Dungannon/Dungannan was the barony for that area of Tyrone County.
I have a strong feeling that Robert is likely going to end up being Arthur's grandfather. Arthur also named his first Son Robert. I am suspecting that Arthur's Father's name would be either Robert or George.
The Robert I found in the Hearth report would be a similar age to the Stephen Latimer of Maryland that most people can't trace further back as well. No one has information on Stephen's Wife as well. I suspect that Stephen and Robert are likely brothers (possibly cousins).
The name Stephen for Latimers certainly stays in the area, as I found a marriage for one for 1766 there in Ireland.
Does anyone have any information for Arthur, Stephen and whom their Wives may have been? Siblings, parents, or any relations? I feel that once the 1600's are filled in for this family, I'm likely only a generation or two from connecting them to the barony.
I have all the information for Arthur's children and forward till now. I do not have his parents. The child James of Stephen is already well known, but I have also came across a son Edward for him with no line forward.
I tried to work my way backward from earlier centuries to hopefully fill the gaps that way till I would run into Arthur. In the process, as I've stated, I believe Stephen and Arthur are closely tree related.
Another important research item is to find out what originally Britania located Latimers (after the Normandic invasion period arrival) went to Ireland. I'm suspecting that many went after the Barony fell out of sorts clearly by the 1500's and rolling into the 1600's. Even the Neville's eventually went to what would become the United States.
So I look to fill in the 1600's in order to connect the empty period in genealogy for the Latimers.
My mother is a Latimer.
Laura (Mom and her brother John)
> Herbert (brother William)
> George D.
> James (I believe the last Son of Henry)
> James (Delaware constitution...the first to ratify) (youngest brother of Robert, George, Susanna, and Sarah (McCalmont))
> Arthur (1736 immigrated with connections to Tyrone County, Newry and Belfast)
I traced through census ... generation by generation.

|Comments:||I found the following information, which bears a great clue for Arthur Latimer.
"III. John, of Claikeston, co. Antrim, and afterwards of Dela-
ware, U.S.A., b. 1 ilay, 1709 ; to. a dau. of — Latimer, of
CO. Tyrone, and was ancestor of the McCalmonts of Penn-
sylvania; he d. 1779, IV. Robert,"
Allow me to deconflict this:
1. John is John McCalmont, who was born in 1709.
2. John married Sarah Latimer.
3. Hence, "to. (married) a dau. of - Latimer" ... the "-" can be filled in as being Arthur Latimer, being Sarah's Father!
Clue: County Tyrone as a possible focus to try and find information on the Latimer family Arthur comes from.

He married Maudie Cantrell of Tennessee and they had an infant son, my father. He died shortly thereafter, and my father took his stepfather's name (Leone). Family lore says he went to Panama to work on the Canal and died there, and was never seen or heard from again. Their children were: Douglas Leslie (DL), Lorena, Bess, Paul, Harvey Ray, Jess, Gordon Albert Jr., Leona, Mattie, William Wilson, and Albert, My great, great grandparents were George Williamson Latimer and Sarah Jane Whitsett, and my great, great, great grandmother was Susan Allman of Tennessee was born in 1813. We can trace our Latimer family back to Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, and Virginia. There is some indication they may have lived in Maryland prior to that. It is Pittsylvania County in Virginia, Mercer County in Virginia, St. Francois County, in Missouri, Hempstead County in Arkansas, then Red River County in Texas, Hill County in Texas, and Cleburne County in Texas before going to Jack County and finally Galveston County. George Williamson Latimer's parents where Milton and Ann Latimer who lived around Hico and Dublin, Texas. The family legend has seven Latimer brothers coming to America from East London, England sometime during the 18th century; however, this has yet to be verified through public record.|

|Comments:||I descend from Robert Latimer of Carusferges, Ireland born about 1800-10 He was married to Sarah Fletcher. I have read a letter Robert wrote to Sarah while he was traveling in norhtern Ireland. He indicated that he missed seeing his father in law as the father inlaw was in Scotland collecting rent. He brought his family to the US about 1840. Robert settled in Missiouri. His children settled in Kansas around 1860. The oldest son Philip Fletcher settled in miami co. KS. I descend from Philip. I am looking for information on Latimer family in Northern Ireland?|

I have a Joseph Latimer (b. 1855 in County Fermanagh, Ireland) in my tree.
His wife is Florence and they have children Louise (or Louisa), Henry and 2 others that I do not know details of.
They are in Mountjoy, Dublin in the 1911 census.

|Comments:||I also meant to mention that there is a reason that many ancestral names are found in England, Scotland & Wales. In the early days of the British Isles, the people living in the lowlands of what is now Scotland, along with those in England and Wales - before those countries took their separate forms - were called Britons (by the Romans) and Welch or Welsh by the Anglos, Saxons, Danes and other germanic peoples. Many places in those lowlands derived their names from the Welsh, for example, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
When the Romans built Hadrien's wall across the north of "England", they actually divided off the Welsh people living above the wall. It is known that the grandfather of William Wallace travelled north of the wall to visit his son & family. Wallace, himself, was not a highlander and would not have worn a kilt as that was not the dress of lowlanders at that time. [By the way, the statue of "Braveheart" looks like Mel Gibson - not Wallace. It is crude and amateurish compared to the original one higher up the hill. Had William Wallace been the height of the Braveheart statue, he wouldn't have been able to wield his huge sword.)
An etymology book says that Latimer (however it might have then been spelled) was the name given to Wrenock ap Merick ("ap" being the Welsh for "son of"). A Latimer went from Scotland to parliament in the 1500s - 1600s. Forms of the name appeared in the Doomdays book. Bishop Hugh Latimer was burned at the stake about 1560 in England. So, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Latimers are found throughout Britain.
Apparently, the earliest appearance of the Latimer name in Ireland was in the late 1600s. This ties in with William of Orange and his confliict there. In fact, one of my sources says that Latimers were one of the Huguenot familes still living in Co. Cavan.
My Latimers came from Brankhill which is apparently in the south-east of the county, though I've yet to see it on a map. I have a one page copy of the listing of my Latimers from the 1841 census which indicates that they were in Brankhill and apparently it was a fair-sized community.
Should William James Latimer happen by this message, please contact me about your possible linage.
|Comments:||We, too, are said to descend from Bishop Hugh Latimer. But, Bishop Hugh Latimer never married or had children. He did have a brother and, no doubt, cousins, etc.
Latimer is one name used as an example of the varied spelling of family names found of the same person in old records. The same Latimer, it is said, had his name spelled seven different ways. A great many people could not spell, so the person making the record wrote the name they way they heard it

Can anyone give me any information about James please or the family in Ireland as finding it quite difficult to find anything?

|Comments:||I tried to e-mail two persons on this site whose addresses are no longer valid. this is the message I sent:
I am not a Latimer, but my maternal grandfather, William Beatty (1860-1938) of Enniskillen, Fermanagh County, was said to have been a horse trainer for the Latimer family and emigrated with them from Ireland to the (then) Danish West Indies in 1884. If you know any more about the St. Croix Latimers, it would probably help me in tracing my Irish line back overseas. Likewise, any information I have about my grandfather might answer some of your questions.
So, if there anyone out there knows more about the Latimers who emigrated to St. Croix, please contact me! Thanks.

They had six children: Margret, John, Lytle, Hugh, William (James, I think)and Hannah. Lytle, Hugh, William and Hannah came to Canada in the mid to late 1850s. I don't know what happened to the others and William went to the USA some time after arriving here. He wasn't heard from again.
Hugh settled in the Brockville area, Lytle settled in the Kemptville area and Hannah married Christie Wright and they lived in the area of Hull/Aylmer, Que.
I have been to Co. Cavan but wasn't able, in the two days we were there, to get any further back.

|Comments:||Hi to all fellow Latimers. I thought people might be interested to know that the name Latimer supposedly came to England with the Norman Conquest. One of William the Conqueror's Knights was a Latimer and he was rewarded after the conquest with land bequeathed to him by William in North Yorkshire at Danby. He built a castle at Danby and one nearby at Stainby (nr Stokesley). Sadly both are now in ruins thanks to a certain Mr Cromwell.|
