| Comments: | I'm one of the Pletchs that spells the name that way, rather than Pletsch. We live in Saskatchewan (Western Canada) where my father, Robert Nelson Pletch, was born. His father, Nelson Edward Pletch, was born in Palmerston, Ontario---close to Walkerton. I believe his father was a Peter Pletsch.
I understand the ancestral home was Schiffelbach in Waldeck-Frankenburg (spelling?), in Hesse. I hope to make the trip soon to see that place. Would be happy to connect with others interested in this stuff. |

| Comments: | Pletsch drop the S when Germans migrated to USA and Canada prior to WWI or WWII and wanted to be incognito.
I was also told early on it was spelt PLETZSCH, (or similar according to Otto Peters), but no one knows the first documents. PLAETSCH is the sound of water, maybe something to do with that or the creek in Scheffelbach? Or the river Fulda which is near? Anyone know more definitive? |
