I'm 54 years old. My wife is 42. (Our precious kitty cat, Blue, will be 5 years old on June 1, 2007.) We are on a very small fixed income of just a little over $600 per month. I want to be open and honest so that there are no surprises or misunderstandings. I have had a very troublesome past which included several stays in prison. I'm NOT proud of that; but it's there and I now have to live with it and the consequences. (Obviously the inability to secure meaningful employment is a major consequence.) I won't offer any excuses. There aren't any. I'll just say that for the majority of my life I was a very bitter, spiteful, and troubled person who rebelled over everything. My last incarceration ended 9 years ago. Prior to then I didn't manage to stay out of trouble 9 months much less 9 years. Thankfully, I'm sure, with God's help, I was able to get ahold of something inside myself and decide that if I wanted any kind of life other than prison I had to let go of the bitterness and rebellion. If I ever wanted to look in the mirror and say "Whatever kind of monster I was in the past; I'm a good person now and conducting myself like a descent human being."; then the life I was living had to stop. (Actually that decision came at the beginning of my last incarceration about 14 years ago.) My wife, Debbie, has never been in any kind of trouble. She is a very precious sweet understanding lady. She is proof to me that there is an extremely merciful, forgiving, and loving God. We were married 5 years as of February 8, 2007. Now to the pupose of this letter. My wife and I, at some point, before I get much older want to buy our own home. Because of our income and no credit we have to be able to purchase something that is "for sale by owner". In order to do that we have to be able to save for a downpayment. Even doing that we will have to find a home that is a "handy man's special" so that we can afford the payments. That's okay. I'm fairly handy at minor repairs, painting, etc. (My goal, for when I pass on, is that my wife has a home that is paid for; so that with her small income, she only has to be concerned with paying her utilities, property tax, occassional maintenance, and her food.) With our small income, in order to save for a downpayment on our own home, we are looking for a situation where we can work in exchange for our housing (including utilities). I am able to do general light duty manual labor. (I can do most things and accomplish them; if I can do them, for the most part at my own pace.) I'm NOT handicapped or disabled; but because of some arthritis and other minor health issues that come as a result of being over 50 I just can't do continuous heavy duty labor. All I'm saying is I'm finally having to admit that I'm not 25 or 30 anymore. I can do light construction clean up, yard care, minor home repairs, simple painting, light farming. My wife and I could manage and maintain a small motel, boarding house, or small restaurant (including the cooking, waiting on tables, clean up, dishwasing, etc.). My wife can do child care, light housework, light office work. (My wife has a number of physical problems which prevent her from doing any heavy lifting; but can do most things that don't require lifting or climbing.) I can harvest fruit, etc. during picking season as long as the trees have been well maintained so that the tops can be reached with a 14 ft ladder or less. It's possible we could do some things not listed here. We are both of average to above average intelligence and still able to learn.
