awesome website!!!
Im the proud owner of a 67 442 coupe that i bought from my dad 12 yrs ago.
the car is #'s matching with gold paint, black vinyl top auto trans, and a/c.
i just finished a frame of restoration on it last year. i really enjoy cruising my 442,
and my dad loves seeing this car restored. it's a far cry from how it used to look,
and has been worth all of the time and money i've put into it. great job on the
site,keep the info coming! |

Great Pics of the Much. Jim Anderson was a top salesman for oldsmobile back in the day for Lyndal Olds in Bloomington, MN and passed just recently. We found Signed photos by Lutz and Lundberg in the estate and are having them framed. Jim did some 442 racing in street/strip class, we found photos of his cars also. |

This site has been real helpfull, I just purchased a 1967 442 sport coupe, I love it. The Air conditioning and heater are in need of repair it blows but doesn't cool or heat up. I live in California but the car was originally from Las Vegas, alot of the rubber was dried out on it. I took it down to the DMV to get it registered, I then realized that the state was in bad shape, the drug me over the coals, I paid a small fortune to get it registerd. |

Hello-
I'm looking at a 3807 that is presented as an original W30 car. It has all of the correct engine compartment components, red inner fenders, and the battery is in the trunk. The #s seem to check out: build date 09D body #831, and trim #390-B until I get to paint. The code is C-2, but the car is now Saffron. It is so well done the stripes are laid down beautifully, but the VIN has been sprayed over. Was the vinyl top an option on the Sports Coupe? Under the trim code # the is a W then a space, and 2R. Under that line it says 5Y.
If you can shed some light on these questions it would be appreciated. If I buy this car I will join the registry for sure.

Purchased a new 67 442 coupe Mesa AZ which assisted in finding my lovely wife of 41 years. Went crazy and sold it in 72 before taking a job overseas. Just traded a 65 vet conv. that I started restoring a few years ago for a 67 442 hardtop. bright red paint and a restored black inside. Engine is not original, but basically, a W30 425 - 375 BHP setup with a Holly 650. Only problem to work on is the wiring, and may have to install a new fuse box and part of the wiring harness. Just found your site, and plan to spent more time on it. It's a good one. Thanks, Nick |

I have a 1967 Hurst/Olds 442, and I got it 19 years ago when my brother passed away. It is Gold on Gold with black interior. It also is a 2-door Holiday Coupe with a 455cu.in motor with a Hurst 3-speed transmission (stick. It has the rear coil springs- no posi rear end. It had air conditioning but my brother took it off so he could race it with more power. I like the way that blue looks on the car you have Doug, but was that a stock color? |

I really like the site. I've got a '70 cutlass "S" that my great-grandma bought new in Coco beach, FL. It had a 350 (2 barrel) & a th-350. I've had the car about 12 years now. It's now sporting a 455 .030 over & a ton of other goodies. Again, GREAT site, I've gotten some awesome stuff off of here. Like the "most meat for your muscle" article & some other things.

Hi, I need some interior parts for my 1967 Cutlass 4 door Hard Top (no post). I need both left and right kick panels (car has air) and I also need the panels that go between the front and rear doors. I guess you would call them pillar panels, both left and right. So if both the front and rear doors were open you have the center post remaining in the opening ( whatever that panel is called that covers the inside portion of that center post. I don't care about the color as I will dye them.
Thanks for your time.

One simply question I had for Google.......Are the body styles of 68-72 Olds the same on the 2dr model? and low and behold the answer at the first site. Really liked the site. Great work !!! Liked the pictures of you project. If that was a 330 ( 375hp), that was the fastest olds in the neighbourhood in 69-72. It was a beauty. That son of a bitch took everything the Detroit built. Hemis. even 440 !!! Everything!!! I have a 72 2dr 442 that I restored.Bought it new. It is one of 105 built.( got the documentation) Bought it new, becasue of that Black Beauty and sold it to my brother as I need the cash. Then twenty years later, he needed some bread. I acid dipped the car. Best move I made. Dropped 85K into it. Finsihed now. email me back and I will send you some pictures. L34,4spd hurst, ram air( yes) 3.43 rear end. Thank again for a great site !!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I just bought a 67 Cutlass Convertible with only 49K miles on it. It's a beautiful car. My wife and I are looking forward to warm weather so we can drop the top and really enjoy it. I can't believe how much power it has with the basic 330 ci engine and 2 BBL carb. Oldsmobiles were great cars. I also have a 1955 Olds 88 Holiday coupe. Also, a beautiful car. Hi,
I have a 1963 F-85 convertible, with a 4 speed stick, 14" steel wheels & posi rear. I recently bought a kit to convert the front drum brakes to disc. The instructions indicate that the stock steel wheel will not clear the caliper & suggests a 240Z Datsun wheel. I want to retain steel wheels, & the Datsun wheels are alloys. Do you have any suggestion as to how I can use steel wheels?
I like your web site. You may want to look at the web site of the company that supplied the kit for my brakes. They make kits for many Olds cars, including rear axle kits. Look at

I just bought a 1967 Olds 442 from my brother in law who owned it since 1977. It is crystal blue with black bench seats. Factory 4 speed and all orginal drivetrain. Never wrecked and no rust. It has won either first or second place in every car show entered. I read up on the 442's at this site before the purchase and found everything I needed to make an educated purchase. Thanks! |

hi, there
i am big fan of classic american car and i like to make a photos of cars. so one day i decided to make my own photo collection of all American cars (appr from 1940 to 1985 or so)
I want to collect the all makes and models and also all variety of shapes (coupes, hardtop's, convertibles...)
i have purchased auto encyclopedia (ESBN 0785301755.)and it is
helping me a lot.
the biggest problem for me to indentify exact model is engine.
usually seeing on the street some old Oldsmobile (especially Cutlass, you cannot find out what type of engine inside I6 or V8, or can you??????? |

I am working on a Cutlass Supreme Rag. I have owned since the late 70,s. It sat in my barn until dec. . At which time my son came to visit (he lives in Ore. I live in Va.) He has purchased a 70 442 and is working on it. My ragtop was origanally a TC (still have the orig.engine) but am replacing engine with a 70 a 70' 455 (c) engine. (auto). Also am replacing the (orig. useless disk brakes with modern disks, and rr drums with modern 11 x 2 drums) about to paint this spring or early summer. I go by "MO" |

I was just surfing and found your site completely by accident. Back in 66 my mother ordered a new 67 Oldsmobile F-85 sight unseen based on the fact that she liked the look of the 66 and was told by the salesman that the new 67 model was very similiar in appearance.
In September of 66 she got the call that her new Oldsmobile was in and ready for her to pick up. I was only 6 at the time but I remember that day very well, that's the day I first layed eyes on her. She was gold with a black vinyl top and black interior, carpet in front and vinyl mat in back seat area. She was a 330 V8 with the Rochester 2bbl. Mom drove that car into the mid 80's until the years of the Connecticut elements finaly won. It is sad to me that it was lost to decay, she still ran like that late summer day in 66 when we picked her up. It stings even more since my trade is paint and body!
I would be thrilled beyond description to find another one some day and make her a show/driver. Anyway I enjoyed your site very much! Feel free to contact me anytime.Thank you.
Sincerely,
George Leonetti

Good Evening,
Enjoying your site, and learning a lot. Thanks more than I can say for your efforts. I have a 67 F85 hardtop that originally had the 330, auto in it. My wife's aunt bought it new, and when she passed away, we became the owners of it. It had at that time about 60,000 miles on it (1986). It had a burnt valve, so I just started gathering parts. I found enough to take a 455 block , used some 400 parts out of a 442, ported the heads, balanced the whole works, jahns pistons, crane cam, double roller timing set, turbo 400, edelbrock with 850 4 squirter, , accel dual point, roller rockers, hooker heavy wall headers, and kept under the hood as stock apperaing as I could other than the aluminum and chrome goodies. Air cond, all factory brackets and such, all the wiring original and intact, and keeping in mind the car didn't have one single door nick, no rust, great interior, and I drove it for about 5 years. My older son begged me to sell it to him, so I did. He drove it for another 4 years, got into horses (of all damned things) and parked the Olds, and neglected it. I recently got it back, and after diligently checking it all over, replacing this and that, water pump, thermostat, a few wiring repairs, new brakes, hoses, gas hose, fuel pump, you know, the regular crap that goes to hell while sitting neglected, I got it running a few days ago. IT LIVES!!!! 91,000 original miles!!! Man, what a car. Needs paint now, but still super clean. Chrome bumpers cleaned up almost as good as new, and all good glass. I need all new rubber , but what the heck...it's a great retirement project for an old time hotrodder who has built and left behind a host of nice cars. Thanks again for your site, as it also gave me great inspiration to get this done.

We traded in our 1958 Olds for a 1967 Olds Delta Ninety Eight Convertable (did I mention that this was in 1968?). I'm not sure which engine. It says 424 or 442 on the air filter.
I was about 6 then. I still remeber the first drive. And yes, we've still got her. We blow out her carbs on a regular basis. |

Keith.
Thank you so much for building a great web site! I've bought, sold, played with and and restored several cars over the years but never had an Olds before. I've always loved the beautiful body lines on the 66-67 Cutlass & 442's and have been "looking" for a nice, solid car for some time. Well I just found one locally bought it two days ago. It's a '67 Cutlass Supreme 2 dr. HT, white on white with 39,000 original miles. It looks and drives like a brand new '67 car and is so original, I just can't believe my luck. The car has the 330/320 HP motor with a Jetaway Automatic. It's a never hit, rock solid CA car with factory A/C, absolutely NO rust anywhere, still shiny original paint, straight as an arrow, original bias ply spare tire, owners manual, protect-o-plate, etc, etc. Thanks to your informative site, I've learned a lot about the car already and will surely visit your "well" as I dig into the car more. It doesn't need much more than a tune-up, good detailing and a few very minor underhood fixes. Of course, I plan on removing the bogus air pump and related emission components and adding some 15" SSI wheels and bigger tires. The car is actually too nice to even clone to a 442! However, when it's done it may very well be the nicest low mileage un-restored Cutlass Supreme around. Thanks again for the time you invested in making the site. Your information is truly appreciated!

It has been a few years, but I worked on an owned a 65 442 tudor post that weighed 3880 with driver and a full tank that went 180 MPH one night. It ended up with a 67 Toronado 425ci., that I built over severl years. Ihad the block decked, head cut on both surfaces to reduce volume and insure a flat contact face. Sheppards machine shop in Rockingham NC did the machine work. I had the crankshaft indexed, and dynamically balance. The clearances were .003 and .003 rods and mains. The Toronado heads were machined to a better multi cut valve angle, 2.07 intake 1.60 exhaust valves were used, Bronze wall valve guides were added and screw in studs, the W-30 valve springs were shimmed to proper pressure. I chose a Crane SSH 298 hydrulic Cam with .477 intake and exhaust lift, 298 intake and 306 exhaust with 108 degree lobe centers. The TRW hydrulic lifters were adjusted to one quarter rotation past click stop. Edlebrock O4B intake with a 750 DP mechanical Holly. A Mallory dual point distributor w/coil was used, and the engine was power timed on 3 pistons to 4400 RPMS. Castler headers with turbo mufflers and 2.5 in exaust pipe made for the exhaust gas outlet. A Muncie wide ratio 2.52 four speed with a 3:31 posi rear end and G-60 15 Dunlop GT Qualifier tires. I was in 4th gear at 7750 RPMS, verified by a sun Machine. That was 255 tire, 3:31 rear axel ratio, 4th gear at 7750 RPM, you figure it out for yourself. This was one of those combinations that was unexplainable. It ran at 210 degrees with a 7 blade fan and a huge oil cooler to control the heat. It reved like a small block, and pulled hard to 7700 RPMS. It was outsanding and unbelieveable. It was one good time, and one great ride.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even though I don't own a 67 I thoroughly enjoyed your site. I have a 70 442 Holiday Coupe with a modified .30 over 455, aluminum E intake, Holley Street Avenger carb, hedman headers, flowmasters, Dualgate shifter, rear deck wing and love showing and driving it. When someone pulls next to me at a light I usually get a thumbs up but no challange to get it on, if you know what I mean. In the early 90's I had a 65 442 and it was a real screamer also, but the chassis and brakes weren't up to par with the power that 400 put out. |

I have followed this site over the years and found it very helpful. However, two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less traveled by and that made all the difference. If you want to look at a true RESTOMOD of a 1967 Olds Cutlass Supreme Coupe, with a radical custom crafted aluminum dash and 2005 high tech guages, visit my web site and punch up the CUTLASS button.

One of the best and most informative classic car sites I have visited, awesome job. I have recently purchased an original 67 442 hoiliday coupe, I have followed your guide and everything is there. block casting 39025 E, "c" heads v218240 G stamped on head, chrome breather, ect. I have the following on my cowl tag and would like some help with these codes:
W-Z2 and 4C 5VYP ? In the accessories position. Oh, also there is a "B" after the trim code 970B. The car will be for sale, I have not decided on a price yet.
Thanks, enjoyed your helpful site. Tony G |

Hello,
I enjoyed the websight very much, I found it very informative and very nicely laid out. I own a 1967 Olds Cutlass Supreme, she has a 1969 455 that i have dropped in place of the 330 she originally came with. It is nice to see so many people who are into the cutlass, it is nice to know i am not alone with the love affair I have with my Cutlass. Heather (my car) still has a long way to go before I am through, but I am looking forward to the build. I hope to have her nice enough to post some pictures in the next few months or so. Take care and keep up the great work.
Fellow Olds Cutty lover,

Yesterday when I was suggesting having Cadillac and Chevrolet VIN codes on your website, I was suggesting having them for other people who don't know anything about their Cadillacs and Chevrolets, and they could use your website as a reference.
If you'd like I could help you with the Cadillac VIN codes.
I know what the codes are from 1958-1998.
And you could post them on your website. |

I saw the pictures of the blue Cutlass you are fixing up and it brought back memories of my first car, a '67 Olds Cutlass supreme hardtop. I bought it from a junkyard in March of 1980. It was a light metallic green, had a locked up 330, and the right quarter was bashed in badly. I was 14 and had more ambition than skill. I bought a high compression 330 taken from a wrecked 1964 Olds and had the car painted firemist Blue from a 1972 Caddy. The interior was in pretty good shape except the front bucket seats were gone, so Mom and I recovered some Vega high-back buckets, matching the blue fabric with the blue exterior of the car.
I ended up driving that car 11 years, 4 months, and three days before selling it. It was a tough car, putting up with a fair amount of abuse throughout high school and college. Everything, including the A/C worked except for the clock. I bought a 4 door hardtop Cutlass for a parts car in 1982. I still have that car, although it is pretty well stripped and sits in a farm tree claim (full of mice).
I enjoyed your site and thanks for the memories. |

Love the page! I am currently purchasing a 1967 cutlass and have been looking for parts and tips on restoration. The deal includes 3 motors. The 455 is what I will be using. Any tips? It's been a while since the last update. Can we expect another? |

My '67 442 convertible has been sitting in my garage untouched for over ten years. I bought it in 1968 for my first family car right after I got married. I was very pleased to find your website and will be using it often. It looks like a GREAT source. |

I just bought a 1964 Oldsmobile Cutlas F85 two door hardtop sitting in a back yard. "It was running when we parked it". The air cleaner says "ultra high compression". Do you know where I can get some info on this car?
Thanks |
