COMMENTS	A little bit of news for people That I heard at University for anyone in Cornwall that may be interested. I just returned home after attending a lecture by David Suzuki(being Canadians I'm going to assume you are all aware of who he is). I was surprised and impressed by how powerful, passionate and charismatic a speaker he is. The lecture I went to was about the place of humans in the global ecology. I'm not here to give a summery of the lecture, I'm posting to tell you this. Today was the first day he announced a 50 city Canadian tour titled "If you where Prime Minister...", the focus of this tour is to find out what Canadians would do to improve the environment. The tour will be making a stop in Cornwall February 8th 2007. The location is still TBA. In 2006 The Nads played 30 shows rocking out in cities like Maxville, Brockville, Vankleekhill, Ottawa, Cornwall, Gatineau, Eganville, Alexandria, and Montreal. In 2006 The Nads shared the stage with over 100 bands and musicians including GFK (G7 Welcoming Committee Records), Dead Letter Dept (Underground Operations), Fuck the Facts (Relapse Recs), The Riptides (Red Scare/Union 2112 Recs), I Hate Sally (Underground Operations), Total Chaos (Epitaph Records), The Guts (featuring ex-Members of The Queers and Nobodys), Bunchofuckingoofs, Random Killing, Ab Irato, The Fad, Mr. Plow, BA Johnson, Radar Hate, The Sewer Rats, No Other Way, The Bella Bombs, The Creeps, Take One for the Team, Four Stroke, Good 2 Go, The Midnyte Revival, Down on Bedford, and Red October just to name a few. The Nads rocked out at many venues including Babylon and Zaphods in Ottawa. The Nads released the CD "The True Face of Globalization" that was reviewed in Exclaim Magazine, and The Nads were interviewed about their CD Release in the Ottawa Citizen which included a photographer in the newspaper. The Nads also had some air time on college radio station CKCU FM. The Nads had a very successful year on myspace, surpassing over 100,000 total audio plays in just over a year. The one-man punk band known as The Nads can run on the immediacy and intensity of his songs. With a combat hat, toy guitar and a head full of ideas, he produces songs that are more like short whizzes -- 30 seconds on "Ipod zombies" here or a minute on "KFC genocide" there. Without the hindrance of fancy studio production, Ramone can bang out an album whenever an idea hits him -- completely DIY. And he has, on more than 20 releases since he debuted in 1997. The music -- guitar fuzz and beat tracks that are produced at the touch of the button -- is goofball simple; the lyrics provide sharp societal commentary. Together, it's political punk at its lo-finest. His current slice is The True Face of Globalization! Using lifted graphics and cheap software, he made a record sleeve that shows Adolf Hitler saluting in front of a Wal-Mart store. The back sleeve shows a fat, menacing Ronald McDonald eating burgers in front of starving African children. "There's not enough politics in punk anymore," Ramone says, railing against the fashion-hostage, radio-lite "punk" that's sold as rebellion in a song. Having grown up on the Dead Kennedys and Black Flag, he sees punk as a resource and wants to foster a community through hosting punk rock shows. As The Nads (Noisy Anarchist Destroying Society), he also puts out compilation CDs and writes plays. His latest is Angry Vegan and the Mad Cow, a charming tale of eco-terrorists and talking cows. "Organizing punk shows gives young people a sense of empowerment," says Ramone, who turns 25 with a bash at Club SAW Saturday. "You can see what can be accomplished because the skills it takes to put on a punk show are the skills required to organize any grassroots movement." But is he preaching to the converted? "I'm sure my crowd is not political at all," he says of his mostly all-ages following. "I'm sure I'm introducing them to some new ideas with songs like Fox News Lobotomy or Ronald Ray Gun". Or rather, Jason Ramone � the man behind the "Star Guitar"-produced backing tracks and severely demented partially-melodic rants that are delivered over top of them � is fucking punk. Taking the piss out of NAFTA, Fred Phelps, emo, iPods, and a slew of other worthy targets, Ramone also takes time to sarcastically wax poetic on his love of Karla Homolka and conformity. Always interesting and challenging, the Nads' music is not going to get stuck in your head or on your iPod for very long, but that's probably not the point. It's difficult to listen to and it makes you a little uncomfortable, but if the thought of songs about Ronald McDonald's cum in hamburgers make you giggle a little inside, the Nads are just your kind of band, punk. -------------------------------------------------- Sadly The Raised Fist show got postponed, and The Nads could not play with The Independents and Brat Attack in Oshawa (after the promoter went back on their guarantee). Besides a few minor set backs, there have been so many positives that have happened in 2006. The Nads played thirty shows (the most I ever played in a single year), with lots of kick ass bands, in nine different towns and cities. There was the review printed in Exclaim Magazine, and the full length interview and photograph in the Ottawa Citizen. Or rather, Jason Ramone � the man behind the �Star Guitar�-produced backing tracks and severely demented partially-melodic rants that are delivered over top of them � is fucking punk. Taking the piss out of NAFTA, Fred Phelps, emo, iPods, and a slew of other worthy targets, Ramone also takes time to sarcastically wax poetic on his love of Karla Homolka and conformity. Always interesting and challenging, the Nads� music is not going to get stuck in your head or on your iPod for very long, but that�s probably not the point. It�s difficult to listen to and it makes you a little uncomfortable, but if the thought of songs about Ronald McDonald�s cum in hamburgers make you giggle a little inside, the Nads are just your kind of band, punk.
