| Comments: | Tankless water heaters have another not often mentioned feature. With a low flow rate the heater will turn off. When taking a shower I turn the water way down, and after 3 minutes cold water is coming out. Most people have no idea how much energy it takes to heat 3 gallons. Try it on your stove! Thus I flush the three gallons out of the water pipes and do not waste any hot water with tankless.
I also pre heat hot water with and old water heater tank in the attic. Simplest solar you can do. Attic is about 20 to 30 degrees hotter than ground. All I did was remove insulation from old hot water heater and used it to preheat for free water entering tankless unit! |

I spent two months adding 1000sq feet of insulation and 2000 sq ft of radiant barrier. I replaced 15 year old A/C (still working ) with SEER 14 new units. We all need to "Save The Planet" and not consume the planets resources to live. ( Think gas guzzlers) Simple life is best!!! Jump duts are great. If you pump a cubic foot of A/C into your bedroom with door closed, it becomes pressurised and thus will leak out all cracks. A jump duct allows air to leave bedroom with door closed. |

We coached BEST for Allen High School a few years ago. I just started working at Geo-Thermal Energy Systems, Inc. I have refered your home for several years and recently as a reference to successful geothermal, home construction, equipment selection, etc. I also notice that you used another system that I was not familiar with...don't recall the name now but sounded like it could be a centrifugal system. In order to get your home to 2 tons did you use dampers to zone off each of the floors? Geo-Thermal has generally avoided dampers with the experience that dampers have much higher maintenance than the Geo-Thermal system... so why compromise. Do you have any idea what your compressor run hours are; total, per zone, etc. What else can you tell me about the installation? -what brand of equipment, installer? -maintenance issues? My wife and I are currently planning the construction of a lake house on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain (north of New Orleans). deal successfully with shelter, water and food - the human necessities - as the global population explodes? Among all the peoples of the world the West Coast Americans are most blessed with the intellectual, technical and financial means. Do they have the heart and spirit for change? Do they have a vision? I must assume that (and I know there must be) there are a large number of people ready to act if they are confronted with a "real" solution. What is a real solution? Have a look at www.solaroofgarden.com It does not involve turning back the economy. Is this a selfish, uncaring attitude for the environment? That could be one conclusion. The other conclusion is that some of us believe that solutions will be found that will solve environmental problems (including Global Warming) without damage to the economy. This later approach - call it sustainable development - would offer a real hope to the world's impoverished counties that need a path to prosperity that will not damage the environment. Otherwise we will, sooner or later, be overwhelmed by the unanswered needs of hunger and poverty in the developing world. |

Thanks for the ROA web page. What a great way for all of us "Old Panthers" to keep in touch! I "toured" the Westbrook House before I saw your family's picture and I'm amazed that a child resides there! What an adorable family! I can honestly say that my favorite memories of ROA revolved around band activities: football games, band trips, lunch-time jam sessions. I'm not surprised that you have been so successful! I have a suggestion for your utility data page. Post your in home average temperature. I was showing my friend your site tonight and I know what he was thinking. He did not say it though. He owns an old house built in the 1910s 20s and he loves to brag about his utility bills. He doesn't use his air conditioner. He uses an attic fan with the doors wide open.
