| Comments: | This whole religion thing has been a constant source of debate for centuries and a way for the powers that be to manipulate the masses. MOST of the religions have done some really cruel stuff in order to advance their "views" and get something out of a group of people. The catholics pillaged south america of its gold in the name of reigion with the Jesuits.. Same can be said for the aztec gold and myan gold as well, the vatican has it all. The christians murdered loads of muslims in spain during the inquisition...but to them it was "justified". Then there's the jews and the palestinians... at each others throats since sticks and stones. Now we have this so-called "roadmap" to peace.. yeah right, has anyone ever seen this map? Just another way for the imperialistic country to maintain a heavy permanent presence and rake in millions of tax dollars to stay there and make money the whole time for themselves. (This also applies to the 130 other countries we have a "presence" in.. nice, eh?) The point is, as long as there is perpetual in-fighting among the people, the elite behind the scenes keep it going on forever and actually PROFIT from it! They say the surest way to really stir up a group of people is to either mess with their religion or money.
As for the the religions MOST of them have some freaky beliefs and blatant contradictions in and about them. The bible is full of contradictions. Catholics violate 2 of the commandments every day at mass. First you are not supposed to worship graven images/symbols... but jesus and the virgin mary are everywhere. Then you are supposed to worship no other gods, BUT mary is called the "mother of god".. isn't that kinda blasphemous?? So then mary was actually first to give birth to god? Hmmmmm To the jews and muslims, jesus was simply a prophet... to christians he was god, (but he was a jew). Jews really don't like christians, even though the christians kiss their butts (like Hagee) and are constantly trying to get them to "repent" .. all the while they are supposedly "gods chosen people"... Hmmmmmm Now you have louts like Hagee on TV "uniting" with jews and trying hard to radicalise christians with jews to wipe out the "muslim terrorist/extremists" .. what a joke. 99.99% of these televangelists are for PROFIT NOT the prophet.. get it? As for the bible itself.. which VERSION will you discuss? There are like 7 versions of the same book..(all with unique contradictions..) so much for the "unwavering" word of god. The protestants have removed 7 books from the group... what is it they don't want you to see? Were is the trinity mentioned in the bible? Ghost?? I thought ghosts weren't supposed to exist... The list could go on for a LONG time. I guess in the end we will all find out what happens... but remember it is mans nature to have a divine "explanation" for everything he cannot figure out. | Comments: | Thanks for the note. I am a follower of Christ, but we all have FREE choice to believe what we want. That is actually what the Christian faith believes, although we sometimes lose sight of that.
I am sorry for the frustration. Some of that frustration about Christians is honestly understood. Many of those things frustrate me as well. But down deep our beliefs define us, and I think it is tough to find the right balance. I am sure you struggle with not asserting your belief to those religions that differ from yours. I know I do, but in the end the choice is personal, and that should be respected. Living together with all of our differences keeps us human and alive. I think we should all just embrace the differences, or as I like to say "embrace the friction." |

I found 'Note to Christians: Don’t' Preach At Me' to be very very funny. I will be sharing it with some of my secular humanist, agnostic, and atheist friends. I will not be sharing it with my Christian friends because I think most of them can't handle it and I don't want to be the one to upset them. We are atheists and nonbelievers and they are not. If they can't deal with it then I'm very sorry but too bad. Not 'too bad' because I don't care, but because there is nothing I can do to change the reality of the situation. I'm not going to get upset about it and nor should they. It’s not personal. No one is judging you. Personally as for me, people can pray for me and others all they want. It isn't hurting anyone and I don't mind. I'm not going to turn away anyone's concern, caring, and love for me from whatever corner if the intentions are good and the heart is pure. It's better than having a fatwa or death sentence put on me for being a disbeliever. If religious people are happy in their fantasy dream world, then who am I do bring 'em down? Life's tough enough anyway, why spoil it for nice people who happen to be religious and believe in God? Why ruin their mostly harmless fantasy and make the reality of life any worse for them than it already is? If you don't want to hurt me, kill me, or oppress me, than I love you no matter what you believe. Just be a good person, the best person you can be, and be true to yourself and others. Sometimes I sincerely wish I did believe in God, I think life would be easier and I would have someone to turn to with things get too hard. As it is, I have to rely on others and myself for support. That path is much harder since sometimes I seem unable to rally enough inner strength to keep going. And often the people you rely can let you down. It would be nice to have an omnipotent being I could always turn to for inner strength, support, and guidance and to rally me to keep going because there’s a big reward at the end and things are going to be really wonderful. Unfortunately, my mind does not work that way. I spent much of my life learning and trying to be a religious person and to believe in God. I did not really believe and I was lying and fooling myself. “Thou shalt not lie.” I certainly don’t mean to throw the 10 commandments in the face of Judeo-Christians or disrespect the sanctity of the commandments. (Actually, I think it was originally 15 commandments but 5 of them were lost or something, I seem to remember reading that somewhere?) The more I learned about religion, the more reasons I had not to believe. I think it is very important that I be truthful with other people when I tell them that I’m an atheist and that I don’t believe in God or any of it. I have to be true to myself and who I am. I am also being completely respectful to those around me when I tell them what I really believe and feel when they ask. I think it is much better to be truthful than lying to religious people and telling them what I think they want me to tell them and agreeing with them that they’re right. I respect people and I want to be honest and frank with them about what I believe if they ask. I don’t mean to be hurtful and mean when I tell them I don’t believe what they believe. This is who I am. I do know this; Jesus and other good religious men and women always put the people around them first before the silly rules of religion when the rules were detrimental to the lives of the people. Jesus tried to love everyone but he detested hypocrites and phony and pretentious people. It's ironic that like the priests and pharisees of Jesus’ time, some of the most phony and self-righteous people of today are the preachers, ministers, priests, and imams supposedly in charge of the world's religions today. Their sin is that they think they actually speak for God or for the prophets of old, as if any of us really could. Blessed be and (g) God bless each and every one. Whoever you are. All right, let's see. I have a job that pays quite a decent amount of money per hour for me to sit at a computer and talk to stupid people on the phone all day long. I own the house I live in. I own my car. I have family that loves me and would do anything for me. I have family that I love and would do anything for. I have a vast selection of literature to enrich my mind an imagination - and I have a mind and imagination capable of being enriched. I have four adorable ferrets who provide hours of amusement every day. I have friends who are there for me when I need them. I have a refridgerator full of food. I have covers to keep me warm at night. In short, I have a very happy and comfortable life, and there are very few things that could make it better (relocation to an island paradise, broiled shrimp every night). Now, let's examine the rest of the world. There are children who are, at this very minute, breathing their last breath because they've gone so long without food that their little bodies have just shut down. There are people freezing to death on the streets because they can't afford a place to live. There are people dying of horrible diseases that either have no cures, or the cures are too expensive for the people to afford. There are people who live in countries that are being torn apart by war. There are people who have lost everything to natural disasters. In short, there are many people whose lives are, for lack of a better word, hell. You could pick out a handful of those people, and spend all day praying for them, and yet you waste your time praying for me, even though I'm quite happy, quite healthy, and quite a bit too intelligent to ever consider your god. Are you really so lacking in morals? Is your selfish, egotistical need for god-belief so overwhelming that you would rather let people starving to death go without your 'prayers' than let a chance to whisper demands for my immediate conversion pass by? | Comments: | ...you can't use that big of a generalization over christains. I mean, don't get me wrong, you're being told this by someone who is agnostic. Not all christains say or think the way that you have stated.
And if you think its rude for someone to pray for you, then you just need to learn to accept religons for what they are, and let people live however they want. The only thing's christains shouldn't do is preach to you and use their religon against your morals, over and over again. Its alright for someone to use their religon to use for you to kind of get a sense with things, but not okay for them to constantly nag to you about it. there's my two cents. |

stumbled into this room. Dont know if anyone still is reading this, but I assume otherwise becasue of the recent posts. I hardly ever write these sort of responses to pages, but I feel good this beautiful morning, and feel like spreading a bit of the "truth". I have posted my email if anyone would like to contact me with questions or even opinions of the reference links I am posting here (opinions are always welcome to me). I Read some of the "dialectic" posted thus far. Pretty shotty. I've read better descriptions and logic structure of aetheism in C.S. Lewis books (by the way everyone should read a little of him). I am not attempting to "preach" or anything associated with this term, but I am attempting share some pertinent information directly associated with the topics of discussion here on this page. My point is simple: in order to describe one system, there must be another independent of the first, but descriptive of it at the same time. This is a principle that will take you to the bottom of dualism, manichaeism, the Ecuminical councils, edited versions of teh Bible (and the political reasons for this), modern day phuysics, clone research, anti-matter weapons research (that's right- NIAC )Nasa Institute for Advanced Concepts was just alloted government funds to research this military capability) etc., etc. etc. In other words, a principle that underlies many "debates", arguments, and the physical manifestations of these: wars. These concepts and the dialectic mentioned earlier are much to complicated to be successfully addressed here, but a jist is served by just introduction of the debates at hand. This debate, friction, dynamic, or whatever you want to call (term) it, is evident to everyone, and, at the same time, the subject to which mankind has developed the q and a's to the reason for his existence. My rambling ends here, as I do not feel like explaining myself nor my "belief" system. All I can say is that "systems" function in more ways than people understand, or CAN understand. The universe is infinitely beyond our understaning, much in the same way there are an infinite number more transcendental numbers than real (i.e. there are more pi's than 1's, 2's, 2.5's, -465.8765, etc.) This is a difficult concept to understand, becasue the mathematical order of today is so geared to believeing the other - (a triangle within a circle stretches when applied to a spherical surface - i.e. Euclidean geometry tends to always be schewed a little bit (reason for rounding in Trig and calculus)). The "fifth" element (or the knowledge of the square of 2 within the dodecahedron (the pentagonal polygon), is the fifth of five polygons that exist in nature, in which all are constructed from the same shape over and over. i.e. the dodecahedron is a pentagon with twenty-six other sides which are pentagons. ANother one of teh shapes is a box with equal sides that are all the same square. The other shapes are different sorts of triangles that fitr together to form a 3-d shape by using only their 2-d shape. (A really good reference here is teh movie Pi by Aronofsky- the dude who did Requiem for a Dream). This truly is a topic which will (if you choose to search it's cavernous abyss) illuminate one, leaving a decision to be made one way or the other- Crowley's Abyss (see Tool' svideo -parable/porabola- do any of you kiddies know what is a porabola is?) I hope I am not too confusing, but this is the nature of "religious" debate that is of the most importance, which most of you as well as modern day acadamia have forgotten. The ulitmate language is mathematics, because there really is no where to misunderstand or to misintepret it. The principles contained within this language (or syntax) are much more easily exchanged than within other syntaxes of communications (i.e. English, Spanish, Dutch, Swahili, Aabic, etc.) This is why Hebrew is so fsciniating - becasue it addresses this problem of intelligiblity, which is why there at least five different "layers" from which to read and to interpret ancient Jewish scripture. It has a "written" layer, intelligble as language as we understand it, as well as others which utilize "mathematical" syntaxes as well. Pretty interesting huh? This is shit they dont tell you in either Sunday School or Public School. There is a reason for this. To understand how language (and the subsequent defining of "things"and "peoples" within the language have devloped historically for Europe) refer to Edward Said's, Orientalism. Understanding how control of language and the way people are subconsciously manipulated and inclined to think of somnething as something preconceived to them, is a tool that has been used by those who have sought powere since time began for mankind. (see the movie Malcolm X, when he is asked to look up the difinition of "white" and "black" in the dictionary). Another Author that describes these historical practices as well as the ways they were able to achieve this level of control, is Noam Chomsky. Anyways, enough of my diatribe. Please make your own conclusions, becasue there is only one truth- and not an infinite number as dictated by the relativity of the human element. Or how about the ones that say that relying on science is ridiculous because it doesn't say how the first particles/gasses were created. What created God? Hmmmm? If he can exist since the beginning of time and just *poof* from nowhere then why can't the universe? That makes lots of sense. But those aren't the best ones. No, the best one was the guy (I think, didn't check the name) claiming that Christians never try to convert anybody. "The only places where you might find christians are in their churches, and maybe conventions they might have, etc. They don't knock on your door and tell you to follow their faith." Every Christmas Eve they come knocking on my door... And a few other times during the year. I actually laughed out loud at that one. Gotta love it.

| Comments: | actually there are comprehensive lists of biblical errors on the web...try looking at www.ffrf.org/lfif, if you can question your religion for a moment (i think your god will forgive you this moment), then peruse through it and cross reference it to the bible...then notice the obvious changes made to the bible between the new testament and the old one, it was watered down by the church to make it more marketable, easier to swallow. easier to sell.
My problem with christianity is the inherent need to "sell" it to the masses...if it were everything it is presented to be, then mass marketing (poorly i will add) wouldnt be neccessary. oddly enough, i have no problem with...say... buhddists because they are simply happy being buhddists and have no need to sell me, they answer questions...but no timeshare-style marketing, no threats to recruit with. Also, i am not convinced of this story of eternal damnation when there are so many holes in the story and the folks professing my souls demise are pretty easy to lead...and the simple fact that not one of them have experienced it yet...heaven nor hell...to tell me anything. and in my many years of questioning various religious types (only after being confronted), christians are the only ones more focused on the negative than simply enjoying life as we are living it. not very appealing to me, and it doesnt even sound like a logical mode of action for a higher being. Its all about marketing, and christians have been duped. when the masses start questioning methods, and i dont mean going to church and kneeling and asking questions like "god, my lord, please help me understand", i mean questioning everything without fear...answers appear almost daily, and i was never taught that it was a devil trying to blind me...its a church trying to blind the masses...loss of masses, smarter and more independent thinking people = loss of church membership, and subsequently, a loss of power base. isnt it curious that free thinking, non religious people have fewer political ambitions? that most politicians try to "out-christian" eachother come elections year? I am very happy in life, i am free to feel all emotions, to question without fear, to make friends with anyone i feel...and the world seems to work with me much better than before....is this the formula for eternal damnation? If it is...you can keep your book. a book that has more horror and violence in it than 1000 Stephen King novels. Yes i have read it, and no i am still not convinced. in fact, i am more secure than ever...please open up to other thoughts and realize that you will never make the world completely christian, you will always find opposition, and its not a big red guy with a fork...its called free will. I'm new in it, and I'd like to ask a few things, whether you want to answer them is up to you. I'm not going to "rape you" mentally or... well w/e you wanna consider it. I just wanna tell you that our "Jesus", the Messiah, which you choose not to believe in, does love you, for he created you... ect. You might think that's nonsense, bottom line is, he does love you. He doesn't like the sins commited by a person, but he does love the sinner. Another thing is... well, where are these contradictions in the Bible? I am Christian, I have read through the Bible a bit, and still am, and soon enough I'll read the whole thing, but tell me which chapters contradict each other... by the way, if you speak of sacrifices, for example, made in the Old Testament, and how those things aren't done now... God sent Jesus down to be sacrificed, for all of us and our sins, as well as to leave us with the Holy Spirit and a route of communication with Him. In the new testament Jesus says all that... if you find that sacrificing three rams is wierd, or contradictory, that was just how the Law of Moses was (given by God), before Jesus, so when Jesus came He changed it all. I doubt that might be your point of contradictory, but it's something that came to mind. So... just to get to the point, I would like to know where you found these contradictions that no other person has found. Maybe you have, but in my opinion, the bible is spiritual truth, unlike any other book man could write with their own mind, and has prophecies that I have read, and many things that prove it to be real (yes I have looked these things up.) Maybe this did become some kind of preaching... sorry about that, but I just wanted you to clear that up for me. Another thing I wanted to know, just out of curiousity, because I HAVE NOT looked it up, but will in the next few days, is that if evolution is true, why are there still apes running around... that haven't evolved. There might be an answer to that, I dunno, I just wanted to know, since that is your belief. By the way... when you read the Bible, if you don't read it open-minded, and just thinking that you're absolutely right, and that your grand picture of evolution is perfect... you're not going to feel "inspired". You're just going to feel like you're wasting your time, because your beliefs are perfect, and that there is no "Divine Creator" to this planet... that it just came about... if you can't be open minded, don't expect the bible to glow and all types of colors when you open it and hand over the Holy Spirit right then and there for you to attain, that is, if you know what the Holy Spirit actually is... or if you care to believe in it that is. 1) Christians are wrong 2) Christians are right. Lets look at option 1. If Christians are wrong, so be it. They are not out anything for the beliefs that they have grown up with. There is probably a 99.9% chance they enjoyed their life on Earth with Christ in their hearts. Again, they are out absolutely nothing. Guess what, the non-believers aren't out anything either. Hakuna Matata Now, lets take a gander at option 2. Wow, what if Christians are right. They have gained absolutely everything. Eternal life with joy, peace, love, comfort, and the list goes on and on. They also had a good life in the waiting room called Earth. Now, the difference is for the non-believers. They would not gain the treasures that will be given to the Christ-followers. Okay okay, so they won't get the "treasures". So, what will they get? Yeah, an eternal life as well, but it won't be so fun. As a firefighter, I can say that 2300 degrees farenheit isn't something to mess with. Hell would be much hotter than that, however, the pain will be endless. I don't know, but to me, sounds like a pretty easy decision. We can enjoy life on earth and be rewarded with a gift that none of us are worthy of. Or, hmmmmmmm, I don't want to even think about the other side. I truly can not talk badly about this "note to christians" as there is only one difference between the auther and I. We have both been given a free gift; however, I am the only one that has chosen to accept it. Lucky for everyone, that the gift is still there, waiting to be excepted. All I ask is that the copyright information that I have placed at the bottom of the page remains intact. Obviously, for some people, this is asking too much. Take the case of BoogFever@aol.com. This whiny, pencil-dicked little cretti has been smattering copies of my Note all over AOL message boards. This would be fine except for the fact that he has deleted the copyright information, and makes no attempt whatsoever to show that he isn't the author of the Note. He even seems to enjoy soaking up the praise that "A Note to Christians" gets. Now, I can understand an honest mistake. I've found a few copies of my Note without my copyright information on some webpages/message boards, and I have e-mailed the owners/posters and politely asked them to edit the Note to include my copyright information. In most cases they were most happy to comply, and I thanked them. Not so with BoogFever@aol.com. I asked him to edit his post to include my copyright information, and he demanded I send him an "official copyright stamp" to prove that I was the author of the Note, and said that if I didn't have one, then I was out of luck. Obviously this cretin is completely unaware of current copyright law, but whatever. He then went on to say that he had found a copy of my Note "years ago" on another message board, and that he had copied it from there. Interesting, since I only posted my Note two years ago, and when it first went up, it was in plain black text. My interesting, rainbowy colour scheme came a bit later. BoogFever@aol.com's stolen copy of the note contained said rainbowy colour scheme. Obviously this individual isn't a very good liar. Anyways. To BoogFever@aol.com, and anyone else who intentionally leaves my copyright information off of "A Note to Christians" in their postings or websites - You are no better than the Christians whose actions were the cause of this Note being written in the first place. Just as they stole and plagiarised bits and pieces from other religions, so you are doing to MY work. Grow some balls, people. If you truly find "A Note to Christians" to be a great resource, then give credit where credit is due. What if life isnt all about Partying,drugs,sex, that guy/or that girl all those things that people are so cought up in? what if despite what we believe in there is only one truth, whether we believe there is no God or there is a God, whether we believe there is a heaven and hell or not. what if theres a truth behind our mentality and religion? what if the truth is that there is a God? And what if GOD isnt about religion the way people see him as? What if that man on that Cross isnt just a religious symbol but its the greatest love story you will ever hear about? what if Hell is a real place and the only way to heaven is by accepting Jesus in your life? Sound Crazy? But what if itz true, Despite what we want to believe. What if Jhon 3:16 isnt just a verse from an old book, what if thatz the massage everyone in this world is crying out for to know? Being half Catholic and half Jewish I have respect for all religions regardless of which God or which path they follow. In the past year I've had many crisis' with faith in general. I've renounced God, Jesus and Christianity to be nothing more than a fabricated story. However, I've come to understand that all of us believe in what works for us, and who are we to tell each other we're wrong?
