Comments:I can't find the price of a Quaker anywhere. About how much have you had to pay for green quaker?
I have had tiels and budgies all my life and I'm 62 now. My tiel Jake has been withi me for almost 16 yrs now and he is 21 yrs old. He talks and impersonates an eagle at bath time. He has taught the lil bouys to yell like he does too and it way to cute.
I love what I've read on this site and like what I've read.

Comments: I am to go get my new baby Quaker in about a wk. This has been by far the best information site I have found. I have made several notes to help me in the upcoming yrs. ( I hope) However the one thing I am worried about is some seem to think a Quaker is a good first time pet bird and others do not. I have had parakeets, and tiels but this is my first Quaker. I am hoping it will talk and keep me company in old age. I have a 10 yr old daughter who I am hoping will share in the love of this bird. Wishing I could confirm I have made the right choice.
Thanks.......... M

Comments:Thank you for your info. I have had Kiwi my Quaker for 4 years July 1st. He is quite the companion. I love him with all my heart and sometimes he can be quite the little tyrant. I am thinking of getting another parrot to keep him company (he is very demanding) yet not sure what kind of bird to get. Separate cages would be a must. Thinking of a conure, lovebird or ringneck, maybe another Quaker if it were a female. Quakers are the most unique parrot I have ever owned. Definitely not a bird I would suggest for a first time bird owner. Thank you again Pam

I got a quaker by accident and fell in love with him, i'd love to spoil him, but i'm very frustrated with how hard it is to find toys and accessories aproriate for his size, most toys skip from cockateil size to much larger parrots, so now i'm online reading up on health concerns, so i can start making my own toys that are just right for mikey.

I just lost my wonderful parakeet, Kasey, on Christmas Day and in spite of her being a loving and affectionate bird I know I can and never will replace her but my life seems so
empty and lost without the sound of a beatiful bird sings, chirping or just flapping her wings all over the place that I would like to fill my life back up again with a Quaker Parrot.

I found your site while I reading and researching about Quaker Parrots and I find it insite full and it gives me hope again.

Thank you so much.

Anyway this is not spam but i was reading the myrads of comments and some were saying that their Quakers would not eat fresh foods, Emerald my 2yr old female will not eat fresh fruits or veggis either but i found these birdie browny type things at DrBeex.com and she loves em, and she does not make much of a mess they are flash vacuum packed and shipped fresh when you order them used em for more than a year and have a very healthy bird with little food mess involved hope it helps those with picky birds.

Comments:Not sure you check this but I found a quaker outside my house about 3 weeks ago. Very tame and has been a wonderful addition to my home. I have questions about certain things it is doing however, whom can I ask? First, he eats very well but he rips his dish from his cage and tosses it on the floor. (same with water dish) Second, he is loosing feathers everywhere, this normal? I've taught him to say sooo much, very smart little guy. Loves to bath, give kisses & generally be held & loved on. Is there something wrong with him that would make him do this to his food/water dish and pluck his own feathers?
Thank you for any help you or your readers can give me.

Comments:Great page. We had a quaker, Kiwi, given to us 2 years ago and he's quite a nut. He is actually my husbands bird. Sometimes I think he's funnier than my african gray though. He bosses Sly, my gray, terribly. Once he was torturing Sly, on Slys', stand and Sly grabbed his tail feather. Kiwi turned around and told Sly,"Behave! Don't bite!" That was when we first got him. Sly still lets him be the boss. He wants to be with/on me whenever "favorite daddy" isn't home, but watch out when daddy's home! I get bit! But that's ok, Ron can't hold Sly without being bitten and Sly bites way harder. hehe

I can't wait! Though I can wait for the adolence period. I'm still not to keen on getting bitten, but I understand that is all part of being a bird mom. My English budgie that I owned and loved for 15 years has recently passed away. So, now I'm ready to move up and decided a Quaker is the bird for me.

But within 24 hours of having him, I can easily get him out and handle him. I have only had him a little over a week and he is doing some repeating of whisles and tries to call for the cat. I love him so much, he is lots of fun.

Comments:I am 14 years old and ever since i can remember ive wanted a parrot. I told my mom but she wasnt up to getting one.I had done tons of research and this is a great research site for quaker owners and soon to be quaker owners.
You see other sites said it is cruel too own a bird a a lot of false things which led her farther and farther away from letting me get one. I came across this site and i read every page word for word. I showed it to her and it really changed her perspective on quaker parrots. At this time i still do not have a parrot but i will most likely get one in the summer. Thank you so much for supplying a great website.

Comments: I was given two Quakers last Summer. I didn't know anything about birds at all.I wasn't sure if this was the right thing for me. I've learned alot since then and grew fond of my birds. The female doesn't like me at all. But the male is friendly enough where I can pet his beak and we stand close ,face to beak and I talk to him.He seams to like that. The female gets mad and comes over and bites the male like she's mad that he is talking to a Human. One of the birds talks but I can't catch which one. Anyway, I caught them mating a few weeks back. The female since then is acting very protective about a certain location in the cage. Who knows, I might be a father. Do you know how long it would take from the moment they bred to when they lay egg's ? Also, I was wondering if they do have a clutch of egg's,do quakers make good parents ? I am hooked on birds now. If I don't get chicks from these birds I'll probably get another parrot.Possibly a differant species. Any tips would be appreciated . Thanx - Howard

Comments:I remember at one time, you had a list of the states and countries which have a ban on QPs. We are in the military and have had our QP for 4 years now...we are getting ready to move to another duty station once my husband returns from Iraq. In order to put in our "dream sheet" (where we would like to be stationed if positions are available), we personally need to know which states we can take our beloved girl, Frankie. We don't want to wind up in a state that bans QPs if at all possible... and if we have no choice in going to a ban state, then we need time to make arrangements to keep her with friends or family who will care for her for 3 years.

Thank you!

Comments:I've had Capt.Jack for 3 yrs now. He is my first bird and what a trip! I've had many other pets but he has to be the most intriging. He's watching me right now and I swear he knows exactly what I'm writing about him. When he speaks, he knows exactly what he's saying. I've taught him to say "pick me up" but most of the time he's pretty lazy and just says "up" or "pick up" until he gets fustrated then it's a very loud, distinct, and attitude filled "pick ME UP NOW!" I can't help it, I have to give in and follow orders. He's definately a brat but worth every minute. I love him dearly and he brings me constant joy. On the other hand, I wouldn't recomend a quaker to anyone without dedication and lots and lots of time and patience as he can be worse than a 2 year old screaming child and a large biting dog when he's in a bad mood.(heck of a combo)

Comments:Hello. I just bought a blue quaker, and was looking for some information about them, when I saw this website. This is my first bird, and I can't say how much I love my baby already. I had heard quakers were sweet, but I never imagined how loveable they could be. Since I have got my baby, he(or she) has never left my side. If I walk out of the room, it waddles around right behind. If I am not holding him, he will sit on my foot and cuddle with me until I pick him up or walk away(then of course he waddles right behind me). I was sceptical to get a bird, but now I am so happy. To anyone who is looking for a bird, in my opinion, I couldn't have picked a better one. From my experience, my quaker is so loving and is already making noises and sounds like he's trying to mimic me(and he's only about 6 weeks old). I just wanted to share me great experience with you guys, just in case your thinking about getting a bird, but don't know what kind to get. Quakers are wonderful, smart and most importantly, loving birds. Thanks for letting me tell you guys about my baby, and I hope you all are as lucky as me in finding the right bird for you!

Comments:Hello. I'm the proud owner of Baby, my 8 year old quaker. I've had her since she was a baby. She loves me and only me. I live at home with my big family and Baby only midly puts up with my mother, and hates all the men in the family. ***I am worried about Baby because I may be going away for 11 weeks during this coming summer(early June through mid August) and I'm not sure how she will cope without me. My mother has agreed to care for her while I'm gone, but Baby really only enjoys (or allows) for affection/attention from me. I'm worried that she may become depressed and/or start plucking or stop eating. Any advice, suggestions, comments would be really appreciated. How do you think she will cope? Please email me with your thoughts!

Comments:I am considering purchasing a Quaker. I've been owned previously by a pair of budgies and a pair of lovebirds when I lived in Washington, DC. I wanted a Quaker at that time but I had previously agreed to take in the keets and lovebirds for my friend, Helen.

My mother became quite ill (COPD) and asked me to stay with her in Greene County, VA to provide caretaking responsibilities. I said, I would; but when I learned I could not take my birds in her cottage; I was devasted.

After my mother died, I went to Charlottesville, VA, located a place to live; but I missed the birds terribly.
My friend, Helen, noticed that I was in need of avian companionship and gave me a cockatiel and a cage for Christmas 2004. Recently, I acquired a love bird from an animal rescue organization in Palmyra, VA.

The cockatiel is fine and so is the lovebird; however, my heart is still aching for a Quaker. I was put in contact with a breeder who says she'll have 4 or 5 baby Quakers for sale in September. So, I'm trying to get all the information I can about raising a Quaker. Any thing you suggest will be very much appreciated. Thank You, Marjorie.

Comments:Thank you so much for this site ----I'm a new Quaker 'pet'! I recently aquired a Quaker named Dixie (we're from the South!). No one really knows exactly how old she is but we're pretty sure she's at least 4 or 5 years old. However, she doesn't talk. She mumbles a lot but not anything I can understand. She mocks the kissing sound, laughs when I do and mumbles while I'm talking to her, so I can't hear what she's saying. Is it possible to train her to talk at this age?

Again, thank you for such an informative site!

Patt
