Haven't looked at the site yet. Just about to. Shitty thing is, the better and more nostalgic it is the sadder I,ll feel. I don't believe that there'll ever be another band with as much soul as the Clash and Joe's passing is a disaster. Who the hell is left that's still got a social conscience ? It's all kids, boy bands and baby baby nowadays. The object of being in a band these days seems to be to be as typical as possible and not stray from the well trodden commercial path. |

| Comments: | My first Clash disk, The Cost of Living EP! "I Fought the Law and the Law Won" Other disks followed as shoplifting improved!!!. There are many fine groups that for one reason or another merit a place in rock history. The Clash were different: virtually every time that you saw them, they exuded an energy that had never been seen in any band before or since. I really beleived in them!

| Comments: | still can't believe it. i'm sure joe would be like all 'stop moaning and moping around, DO something proactive!' etc, and, of course after time, we will. but in the meantime, just can't help feeling gutted. so sad. as a young teenager, the clash just woke me up. joe and the boys were something else - raw, honest, principled & insightful. strummer/jones articulated this with clarity. God bless joe and sympathies to your wife and children. |

I agree with one gent's lament: now I know how my father felt when Elvis died. Only Joe Strummer was literate. And cynical. Kinetic. Wry. Pissed off. He made history and politics and music meld and come alive in a very dull time: the 80s. My small town world was set on its ear when first I heard the Clash. They made me wanna pogo.
