Hey Duke/Memebers:
Have the t-shirts been decided on? If not I can talk to my people at Hammer Nutrition and get some nutritional supplements for the club if we put them somewhere on the shirt. Let me know how the club feels about adding sponsors to the shirt. It could turn into a total commercial endeavor if we are not carefull. When people get left off, they don't seem to help out much anymore. I'll see some of you at the MTB Du, train smart.

Steve - I was honored to be the test dummy..."dummy" being key. Race times...they are posted online for the whole world to see, so no big deal...Now having everyone check out my form from different angles...I only felt weird because it probably screamed what a beginner I was! I should have stated my disclaimer that September 22, 2007 (less than 5 months ago) was the first time I had been on a real bike (not cycle class) in over 20 years...so yes, a true beginner was the dummy. |

I also want to say THANK YOU to everyone that worked to put together the bike clinic. I learned a whole lot...last night I had chance to take my bike around the block...it is so different! Wow. I got home, and watched my swim DVD...we sure are a very fortunate group...bike clinics, swim clinics...
Too bad the session wasn't taped...it would be nice for my husband to hear someone besides ME say I need a new bike to maximize the bike leg if I want to do a full IM in 2009. :)

Matt:
My bike has been repainted by Trek and I'm picking it up on Saturday at RBM. I'll probably do a ride around White Rock Lake to test out the re-fittings before heading back to Tyler. I will be able to ride on Sunday. It looks as if Kami and Charity will be riding then also.
Note to Everyone:
I am experimenting with using a new type of "Forum" software instead of the current message board/guest book that might be better. It has several advantages--requires a one time registration for User ID and password which keeps someone from posting a message with your name, the greatest advantage being that it updates instantly so you don't have to wait to see your new messages. You can post replies to other messages. It will allow you to insert links into your messages and will let you insert a photo. It even allows you to send private messages to other members. The main disadvantage is the learning curve--it is more difficult to use. I'm hoping some of you will check it out--there is an orange link to it at the bottom of the "Guest Book" page. Please give me some feedback as to whether you would embrace changing to the new forum or if you would like to keep the current one that doesn't let you always see your new messages immediately. |

Ashley: At our meeting earlier this year we discussed getting some team gear. Since we all have such diverse tastes/needs for race-day attire, we settled on t-shirts and possibly a club bike jersey. I am handling TJC jersey orders (my job). I have the size kit here for that, and figured why not get the triathlon folks to take advantage and check their size in anticipation of possibly ordering bike jerseys some day. |

Steve & I are going to White Rock Lake this Sat. morning to run the Texas Half. We plan to register there, $55. They also have a 5k. Anyone else interested in going? We won't be doing the evening long run this week.
Charity, I have to reschedule my brick workout for Thursday (haven't checked the weather yet). 30min S+2h B+30min R. I don't plan to go hard, except a little on the swim. Want to join me? Anyone else is welcome to join us, too, I just can't tell you what time yet.
I plan to ride on Sunday, probably 12:30 from Faulkner, & probably short + a short run. |

It was good to see such a strong turnout for the bike fitting clinic last night. I am sorry I didn't get to meet many of the faces I didn't recognize. I know I have broached the subject before, but I would like to see if there is any interest in a group ride this Saturday (or even Sunday). I am open to suggestions on locations, but I think Loop 49 in Tyler would be perfect for all ability levels. It's about a 12 mile loop, nice wide shoulders and fairly low traffic. For many of the people new to the sport, the course is fairly representative of what you would see in a sprint race. Sound off if you are interested. |

Thanks to Steve Farris, Matt Madison, & David Gersh (Elite Cycles) for all of your help in getting the John Cobb clinic organized for last night. John's clinic was one of the most enlightening discussions I've heard on bike aerodynamics and efficiency. It was fascinating to learn that a "silly millimenter" makes a profound difference in cleat placement that can add miles to your bike and a comfortable ride. Whew! I know all of you that attended are appreciative of being able to enjoy this incredible opportunity.
And, John, if you read this, our huge thanks to you also. Not only did I learn quite a few helpful tips from you but you were inspiring to most of us to accomplish our best. Our club is indebted to you for your gracious presentation.

Thanks for the drinks and snacks! |

Hi! Not sure exactly what it was, but the swim clinic sounds like a success! I was out of town this weekend cheering on my hubby and brother in law in Tour New Braunfels, and I now see a lot of posts about a bike fit clinic tonight. I realize, it is most likly too late to sit in now, but I would love to hear more about it!
Thanks!

Thanks Kahne and Steve for your hard work in getting the swim session organized! I am jealous of the TJC pool and want to swim there all of the time now (grin).

Steve - Thank you so much for taping our swim! It only verified what I knew all along...ugh...but at least I know the MAJOR things I need to work on now...baby steps, right?
Kahne - Thank you for setting this up for us! I appreciate it so much! I am glad to be a young jedi, but my legs?!?!?! Um...nothing there worth commenting on, except they are short, slow, and handle bike wrecks well.
Kami - Thanks for keeping an eye on me...mental notes to self - 1. Get my keyless thing fixed 2. I can't remember where I park bikes OR cars...
It was great seeing everyone last night. I too was impressed by everyone else's swim.
Can I brag for a second? I GOT TO DO MY LONG RUN TODAY WITH GINA!!! Woohoo! I was both excited and nervous when she said she would go with me. I looked over at her a few times, and I think she was walking? (She was keeping my pace with me.) I hope she got SOMETHING out of it. Remember - short legs - oh - I was NOT walking...My last long run before my first 1/2 marathon. Thanks Gina!
It's beautiful right now over here in Longview, hope some of you are able to get out and train today!
Hope to see some of you at bike clinic Monday night! |

Billy, thanks for the towel.
Billy, Mason, and Travis, it was great to meet all of you.

I was impressed by the swimmers tonight. I hope all of you can benefit in some way by the video. All of you are obviously already good swimmers. Nice to know you were swimming with a world record holder in the Triple Ironman, huh? I was feeling humbled as I was videoing her.
Thanks Kahne for gettting the pool for us. The pool was great. Sure wanted to dive in. I was sweatin like a pig. Especially when I thought that camera wasn't gonna work.
It was good to meet Travis and see Mason & Billy again. Hope all of you can be there mon. night at John Cobb's fitting workshop. I'll have your discs for you then.

First, thanks Steve for taping us at the pool tonight! Second, darn you Steve, for taping us and showing all our flaws! ;-)
And now for something completely different.... In reference to the MTB tri: there are no relays allowed. You have to--as the song says--do all or nothing at all. (Otherwise my husband would have me out there running while he rode his bike.)
...and FINALLY: I have a new theme song for Bonny (if she wants one. It's from ZZ Top: "She's got legs! And she knows how to use them!" Truly, if I had legs like that I would be POUNDING the pavement and crushing the cranks. Impressive, young Jedi! :) |

Howdy All:
Steve Gersh needs a head count for attendance at the John Cobb clinic on Monday. Please send me an e-mail letting me know if you are coming or not (don't post it here please).
Trace sent me a note today about a USAT sanctioned event and I'll quote him, "... the mtb duathlon at Tyler State Park on Feb 16 is a USAT sanctioned event. We should organize a training day out there next weekend and then show up in force on race day to rack up some early season club points. If some people are unsure or unfamiliar about mtb du's or trail running I can hold an informal clinic to prepare them for the race."
I added a link to the event on our calendar so check it out. Maybe some of you might do a relay with a Tyler Bike club member--they can participate with a one day pass to USAT.
I hope to see some of you at the swim taping tonight!

No prob Kami. I was in a battle for dominance of the fast lane with the snorkeler. As he was without his friend, a/k/a "the other snorkel jerk", I was using the divide an conquer technique. He doesn't take hints well. Next time I'm swimming in tri briefs and offering him backrubs between sets.
I think I'm finally healed enough to start upping my milage and speed, so I can prob start running with you guys next week. Let me know what time you plan to ride tomorrow. |

Thank to everyone who responded. Carlos, I think that Polar is smarter than I am! I'm afraid it would get bored with me and die.
I've narrowed my options to the Polar RS200 and Ironman HRM. What I am really looking for is the ability see how I am performing, specifically, whether I can push myself harder. I don't think GPS and speed are necessary for me at this point. Slow, and not far enough.
I will not be at the swim clinic tonight. Friday night is "date night", and missing that might cost me a part of my anatomy. Although it may make the bike more comfortable, I would like to continue as a male, age-group racer. |

The supported discs are DVD-R (unused). DVD-RW can be used, but has to be formatted before recording. I don't know all of this. I just copied it from the camera manuel. I just use what Duke gave me. If you don't have one today, you can bring it Monday night. See you tonight. |
