Comments:Hello Edith,

Luv the story of your first year...would luv to hear an update of the last few years.

I live in New Jersey with my bouvier Caesar. Caesar is 10 years old, weighs 125 lbs and is a big bear. His best friend and buddy in the entire world, my other bouvier, Omar, just went up to bouv heaven a couple of weeks ago. He was 12 years old and was a great old soul. One day, i have no doubts, i will get at least one or two more. i don't know about right now, because i dont' know how caesar would take it. But my love for the bouvier is so deep in my heart I will always have one in my life.

Best of luck!

Lisa

Comments:Loved your calendar of events. We have a Bouvier named Abigail Johnston. He father was also "Gus". We adopted her when she was 10 months old from Judy Kasper in Riverside. A friend of mine just lost her beloved Bouvier companion yesterday. I sent her your website to help heal the pain. Thanks for the smiles.

Fort Dodge recalled RabVac 3 TF serial number 873113A rabies vaccine May 25, 2006 after a vaccinated dog contracted rabies (The Charlotte Observer http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/business/14786163.htm; http://www.dogsadversereactions.com/RabvacRecall.html). This batch of vaccine "was released into the veterinary market in November 2004 and expires June 29, 2006." Concerned owners can call Fort Dodge at 800-533-8536. Wyoming's State Vet Lab posted the recall letter at http://wyovet.uwyo.edu/Diseases_2006.asp.

Kris L. Christine
Founder, Co-Trustee
The Rabies Challenge Fund
www.RabiesChallengeFund.org

Two world-renowned giants of veterinary vaccine research -- Dr. W. Jean Dodds of Hemopet and Co-Trustee of The Rabies Challenge Fund www.RabiesChallengeFund.org and Dr. Ronald Schultz of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine -- have volunteered their time to ensure that critical 5 and 7 year rabies challenge studies are conducted in the United States. The studies will be financed by The Rabies Challenge Fund Charitable Trust, a tax-exemption organization founded by Maine pet vaccine disclosure advocate Kris L. Christine in 2005, and will be performed by Dr. Schultz. The University of Wisconsin has waived its 48% overhead fee for the studies.
The concurrent challenge studies will determine the duration of immunity conveyed by the canine rabies vaccine, with the goal of extending the state-mandated interval for boosters to 5, and then to 7 years. According to Dr. Dodds, “This is one of the most important projects in veterinary medicine. It will benefit all dogs by providing evidence that protection from rabies vaccination lasts at least 5 years, thereby avoiding unnecessary revaccination with its attendant risk of debilitating adverse reactions. "
Scientific data indicate that vaccinating dogs against rabies every three years, as most states require, is unnecessary. Studies have shown the duration of protective immunity as measured by serum antibody titers against rabies virus to persist for seven years post-vaccination, and results of a 1992 French challenge study led by Michel Aubert demonstrated dogs were immune to rabies five years after vaccination. Researchers believe the rabies vaccine causes the most and worst adverse reactions in animals and concur that it should not be given more often than necessary to maintain immunity. Adverse reactions to rabies vaccination can include autoimmune diseases affecting the thyroid, joints, blood, eyes, skin, kidney, liver, bowel and central nervous system; anaphylactic shock; aggression; seizures; epilepsy; and fibrosarcomas at injection sites.
Dr. Schultz states “[s]howing that a vaccine for rabies can provide 5 or preferably 7 years of immunity would have great significance not only in controlling rabies but more importantly in reducing the adverse vaccine reactions that can occur in dogs and cats after vaccination."

Comments:Dear Edie,
Good Ol' What's his name! He's made you a good site. Loved it. Stumbled onto it looking up Edith Bouvier Beale. Clever name. Even cleverer site. Enjoyed reading about you very much. Mostly, I hang with other Aussie Shephards because that's what my Ol' What's her name has had. We herd too! And Happy Birthday.

Comments:We are proud previous owners of a beautiful Bouvier des Flandres. She was Chicon, the Belgian word for endive, so named because we lived in Brussels and adopted Chicon while living there. Your Edith is lovely. Aren't Bouviers the best? I've seen Grey Gardens a couple of dozen times. Would love to see the musical. I've actually caught myself using Edie-isms -- a STAUNCH woman! Thanks for having such a nice website.

We always said we would like to have a black bouvier AND in keeping with the Bouvier-Kennedy theme we would call him "Blackjack" Bouvier after Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy's father.

Thanks for making me smile again.

Wow...you have crazy humans like I do! I think you've had even more weird and wonderful experiences than I have since I don't live in a big, interesting city like you do. I think I am the ONLY Bouvier in my town in the Four Corners area. It is very dry out here and there are a bunch of bad stickers and burrs and sharp things that I get in my pads when I go running...good thing my hu-mom notices when I am chewing on a foot more than usual...! The good thing about this desert country...LIZARDS! I haven't caught any yet but I bet they taste great. They sure are fun to look for and I look in the bushes EVERY time I go out!! I will be three in June and have told my humans that I better have a party like Edith's one of these days. Too fun! Tell "ol what's his name" to KEEP WRITING!

It sounds like you are getting "old what's his name" trained right. We are four and eight respectively. We work in search and rescue. It is a lot of fun. We get to fly in helicopters and do all sorts of neat things. You might think about doing it when you get older. We don't know about cows but Merlin has herded smaller animals called "sheep". It is a lot of fun. Merlin just has to look at them and they go where he wants them too.
