| Comments: | I worked at Land Rover North Point and remember him. I have been thinking of this tragic event for days. This morning I woke up and and wanted to find out more. He was cool. I remember his defender 90. I have family that lives in Soquel, CA. I go to Capitola all the time. I would like to find the bench by the beach some time. |

| Comments: | 10 years ago this past monday was when my classmates and I had to return to Freshman Geography class- without Mr. Rau. I remember the room was filled with Assistant Principals, counselors, etc. and was silent. Many were crying, many tried their hardest not to. After some conversation with the APs on what had transpired over the weekend, we were allowed to visit the makeshift memorial that students had already made in his parking spot. That parking spot said a lot about Mr. Rau. The spot itself was not even an actual parking spot, but rather a partial one- Mr. Rau parked his Land Rover half on and half off the curb. I guess he couldn't get enough off-roading in over the weekends with his SOLAROS Land Rover club buddies. The fence and surrounding area had been filled with teddy bears, flowers, candles, posters with notes from students, and of course, McDonald's french fry cartons. It was hard to look at the french fry cartons, as there would be no more after school "French Fry Reviews." Mr. Rau bought every student frys in order to lure us to after school test review sessions. I enjoyed his class a lot... and I think of him often- whenever I see Land Rover Defender 90s, or when I hear of Inman Park, where his life was taken. His students still miss him 10 years later! |

| Comments: | Mr. Rau is one of the few people I've met who extends compassion to everybody. He was one of my favorite teachers at NHS. I was going through a period of depression (for about 2 yrs) and I hit bottom when I heard Mr. Rau's death on April 25, 1999 when I came into school that morning. I believe Mr. Rau's spirit leaves on and he lives in peoples' hearts. More power to people like Mr. Rau ;-) |

| Comments: | It has been a little over 8 years and I still think about Mr. Rau almost everyday. I just moved back to Norcross after being in the military. All of the memories have come back so much stronger. I used his wisdom and passed it on from time to time at my duty stations but wish so much I could ask him for his advise now. He always had a way to help you figure out any problem you came across. |

| Comments: | It was very odd that I thought of Philip today, April 24th. I cannot believe that it has been seven years. I was very fortunate to have worked with such a great teacher at Norcross High and just as fortunate to have him as my friend. His spirit and love for teaching still lives on. |

| Comments: | I thought about Mr. Rau for the first time in a long time today...I was engaged in a conversation with someone who was talking about teachers that made a difference and, naturally, I wandered back in time to the days of Mr. Rau's history class. Mr Rau gave me more than an education...he gave me a foundation. I am so thankful that our paths had the opportunity to cross; I will remember him always.
God Bless. |

| Comments: | I am so glad I found this site. Mr. Rau was and still is my favorite teacher, and I still have vivid memories of his class. I remember the French Fry Reviews, and constantly joking about his Land Rover stuff and whether he was a Polo model or not. I miss him dearly, and since I can't tell him, I would like his family to know that he is largely the reason I am becoming a teacher. |

| Comments: | I'm glad to see other people still rember Mr. Rau and his after school reviews. His impact on students was original and unique. He was the most kind and caring teacher I have ever had. My memories of him will live with me forever and with everyone else he touched. I feel very lucky to have known him. |

| Comments: | I had the pleasure of being one of Mr. Rau's students for 2 years at Norcross High School. One of my fondest memories of him were his "FRENCH FRY REVIEWS". This may not seem like much to some but it just shows how much he cared about his students. He would go to the McDonald's across the street and buy french fries with his own money just to get students to study for the test the following day. I was not what you would call a "star student" but Mr. Rau saw something in me that not many other teachers did. He looked beyond my hard exterior and tried to know my true spirit. I used to think that I was an exception, then I realized that Mr. Rau was like this with all of his students. He treated everyone in the same respect.I will never forget Mr. Rau and his many efforts to change my perception on not only school but life as well. His memory will live in my heart forever.

| Comments: | As I read the web page done in memory of Phillip I can not
help by wondering why this had to happen. To read the comments from people who knew him I feel the same! he sounds so much like the great person that I have in mind and know all to well now by meeting his mom and listening to things about him that t is my loss also because I did not get a chance to met him. I know we all serch for the why answers and there never seems to be the right answers, but one thing is for sure he is in the heart and memory of so many! Please know as we walk together down this road, that one day all our why questions will not matter because at the end of this road all our children and other love ones will be there! Please know that I am only a click away and please know you will never be alone! Thank you for sharing a piece of your heart with me. Your friend, Joann |

| Comments: | mr. rau is a brilliant man who will live forever in my
heart.I will never let go of the memories he created for me and i will never let go of his inspiriation. I truly think that the world would be a better place if people in society would model their lives after him. He was a wonderful teacher, but even better a friend and I appreciate his care for others. He inspired me, so i will take what he taught me and pass it on to someone else. I do this in hopes that I make people as happy as he made me. If you get a chance go by a Barnes and Noble and pick up the August edition of "Gwinnett Magazine" and read the article "One Last Dance" Everyone continue to stick together. |

| Comments: | Mr. Rau was a wonderful teacher, but not just a teacher, a
friend. He wasn't like every other teacher. He really cared about his students. When we were getting out of school for holidays he would always tell us to be careful. He understood what it was like to be a teenager these days, and he knew what went on. Mr. Rau didn't just teach to us about Geography, but also about life. It wasn't just teaching it out of a book, he related it to life. At the beginning of High School, when they told we I was going to take World Geography I was very doubtful about it. Still After all of the hard work and pain i've gone through with Mr. Raus loss. I would go back and take that class over and over again, if I could. |

| Comments: | We had the joy of sharing many days of this past year with
Philip. He became part of our o'hana the moment he entered our home. We have so many wonderful memories saved in picture albums of all of us laughing and playing together. Tender quiet moments of simply being in the same place when words weren't necessary. Sharing heartfelt dreams and hopes; excitement over accomplishments; givng and receiving encouragement when our heart's desires were fulfilled. Being creative during the many holidays we shared. Just being who we are, not who or what we could become. Enjoying the journey through life. We are thankful that Philip chose to share his life with us, and he told us many times he was glad he became part of our family. At Philip's memorial service at Norcross High, I was reminded of the 3-year old boy who was on the heels of his mother no matter where she went. The mother patiently suggested fun activities to keep him occupied. But he simply smiled and said, "Oh, that's all right, Mommy. I'd rather be here with you." After stepping on her son's toes for the fifth time, she asked him why he was acting this way. He looked up at her with sweet eyes and said, "Well, Mommy, my teacher told me to walk in Jesus' footsteps. But I can't see Him, so I'm walking in yours." I think through Philip, many of his students saw God's face because Philip truly loved them. May his life's legacy be evidenced by those kids walking in those loving footsteps. |

| Comments: | to all of Philip's loved ones: this dreambook is such a
beautiful idea, a great way for us all to help each other cope with our tremendous loss. I'll be planting a tree in Philip's memory in an Atlanta city park near the incident. I want it to serve as a beautiful spot where we can all go to think of Philip, say hi, maybe leave some flowers and celebrate our lives. I'm currently in the process of selecting a tree, a nice spot in the park and a bench. I want to have a "bring your own picnic tree-planting/blessing party" sometime in June. I'll keep everyone posted of the details. You're all invited...it will be a fun day, a celebration of his life as well as our own. I know that Philip would want it that way...fun. Everyone take care and please use this opportunity to communicate with one another, we all need it. Kim |
