I am looking for my half sister. My mom was 19, almost 20 when she put her up. She was sent to live at the Florence Crittendon Home for Unwed Mothers and was helped out by Anthony Abraham and his wife. They sent her on a bus to Jacksonville where she had the baby at St. Lukes Hospital. She gave the name Dianna Lynn to the baby but I am not sure if the adoptive parents have changed it. | ||

I was adopted through the Children's Home Society of Flordia. I sent them money first in 1980 for unidentifying information. They cashed my check and I did not hear back from them. 6 weeks after the check cleared I called them and I was told they "couldn't go back that far" in the records". I asked for my money back. They said they needed it to have looked. The second time I was in contact with these pirates I wanted my time of birth. They said they could not"find it". I called them again a couple of years later and asked them to look again. They said I had to send money for them to look for it. Like a fool I did. I was told then that they still "couldn't find it". After that I talked to someone who was attorney and she sent them a letter stating I had the legal right to my time of birth. She sent them a letter and then, lol they DID find it. So they lied to me for years. After that I wanted a search and was matched with a woman who didn't look like me and who showed me a picture of a man she said was my father who looked absolutely nothing like me who's name she said she couldn't remember how to spell(so I still don't know his name). 3 months later she ended our contact demanding all the pictures back she had given me. I didn't even do anything. I still want to know who my fahter is. The woman that said she was my mother her name was "Joan Clark", although when I met her she had married and her name was Joan Clark Woodward. She told me she she lived in Florida for a while and then went to CA when she was carrying me but went back to Florida to have me. She said she was from (grew up in) Ellsworth Kanasas. She told me that she had a sister named Lila who was married and lived in Kansas or Kansas City MO. She said she had a brother named Bill(who lived in Florida and had a daughter named Kim). I was told I was born on 11/19/1959 in St. Petersberg at 5:51 pm.(At Mound Park Hospital, now Bayfront). If anyone knows me please get in touch with me. I want my dad! I was adopted by a bad woman who treated me like a cleaning lady. I am not angry at my real parents and just want to know them. I am not convinced after all the lying The Children's Home Society of Flordia did, that that woman (Joan Clark) is even my mother, and I wonder if there is a scam going on with reunions. I was born in Pensacola, and adopted by my birth mothers brother and his wife. I was told when I was around 13 and was in such shock I didn't start asking questions until about 3 years later. My birth mother which i knew as my Aunt says she doesn't know my birth fathers last name, only his first (Ralph. But he had met some of the family and such, so i find this hard to believe. My mother gave up a baby girl for adoption from Miami in Dec 1984. Some adoptive parents commonly changed the birthdate. Born In South Miami Hosp aka Baptist Hosp South, and Delivery Doctor should be Dr. Hanst. Original BC should have Donald Brennan as Birth father, though he was not in any of our lives. It was privately thru a lawyer and I think that the adoptive parents may have been friends of the lawyer. Also think that she went to a Catholic School for Elem, in Miami Lakes. Non-Identifying Background Report for Kerin E. Hewitt Your Birth Mother: Your birth mother was 16 years old at the time of your birth. Of the common childhood diseases, your birth mother was reported to have had chicken pox and the whopping cough. At the age of 8, she had a “T & A” (Adenotonsillectomy) and it was noted that she often suffered from recurrent sore throats in the winter. Reportedly, if your birth mother contracted a serious cold it was sometimes necessary to hospitalize her, as her throat would swell so that she could hardly breathe. Your maternal grandmother described your birthmother as “not a healthy child.” She allegedly frequently suffered from backaches and side-aches. For no known reason, her menstrual periods were considered unusually short. Your birth mother was of Hispanic ethnicity and had dark brown hair that was bleached a lighter shade, hazel eyes and an olive complexion. She wore harlequin-style (cat) glasses for eyestrain that caused here to have headaches if she did not wear her glasses. Your birth mother was petite, standing only 5’ tall and weighing 115 lbs. Your birth mother moved from her home state to the Tampa Bay area in 1958. She attended school throughout the tenth grade, but refused to continue to attend during 1959. Her parents allowed her to cease attending her classes and subsequently assigned her to a position at their grocery store. The caseworker’s notes state that the grocery store was located in an area that was populated, primarily, by African-American individuals. It was noted that your birth mother became quite social with the boys and girls in the neighborhood and began to arrange meetings with your birth father to neither of her parents’ knowledge. Your birth mother informed the caseworker that your birth father was African-American and that he had a very dark brown complexion. Your birth mother claimed to have been acquainted with him for well over a year. She informed the caseworker that she had been meeting him in Ybor City, ostensibly going there to shop or to meet with friends. Your birth mother and birth father would meet, sit on a bench and talk to one another. It was noted that your birth mother stated that she liked your birth father and that if she were permitted to parent you, she wished to marry him. She stated that if she were not permitted to parent, then she did not wish to marry. However, in 1960, interracial marriages were illegal. The caseworker informed your birth mother of this fact and her answer was that she had wanted to return to her home state, but her parents would not allow her to do so. She also added that your birth father wished to marry her, but due to the social stigma at that time, her parents would not hear of it. Your maternal grandparents informed your birth mother that neither she nor your birth father would be accepted by either’s race or family. Due to their relationship, your birth mother and birth father were each placed in juvenile detention homes. As a result, your birth mother had not seen your birth father in two months, nor did she know his exact whereabouts. She did, however, have his mother’s address. After her release from the Juvenile Detention Center, your birth mother was no longer permitted to work in the family market and was then confined to the home, under the watchful eye of her older sister. However, your maternal grandparents claimed to have knowledge of at least two attempts by your birth mother to contact your birth father by telephone. Your maternal grandparents were in hopes that your birth mother could be placed in a Maternity Home for unwed mothers. However, due to the interracial relationship, the maternity home would not allow this. Instead, she remained at home until the fact of her pregnancy began to become apparent. At that time, your birth mother was moved to a temporary foster home. It was reported that she adjusted well to the foster home, playing with the 5-year old who lived there and taking up embroidery as a hobby. Within approximately two month’s of your birth mother’s arrival at the foster home, the foster father died in a freak accident. The foster mother was so upset that it became necessary to move your birth mother to another foster home. Fortunately, the next-door neighbor was able to provide a home for your birth mother and the move proved to be satisfactory. After your birth, the doctor who was overseeing your pediatric care contacted the agency to inform the caseworker that you had contracted a severe infection and as a result, may not live. You were immediately baptized and placed on extremely strong medications to battle the infection. The caseworker believed that these medications caused nerve damage and were the result of a developed a “foot drop.” After your birth, you were placed in a temporary foster home. During this time, you were referred to a doctor who was a brace specialist, on recommendation of an orthopedic surgeon who originally attended to you. A month after your initial visit to the brace specialist, an improvement in your foot was reported during a follow-up visit. The doctor suggested that the caseworker contact the Florida Brace Company to have the shoe and brace adjusted in order to stretch a desired ligament. However, the adjustment that was made caused you to be able to pull your heel to pull from the shoe. After this adjustment, the caseworker took you back to the doctor’s office whereupon he informed her that the brace and the shoes no longer fit. The shoes had become too small and a new pair would have to be purchased. Later, a new pair of corrective shoes was purchased and a new brace was fitted to your foot and leg. However, the caseworker reported that you were still able to pull your foot from the shoe. The doctor suggested that the Florida Brace Company set the brace back by 10 degrees, to its original position. As the corrective process seemed to be progressing slowly, the doctor put a cast on your foot and leg, just below the knee. Your foot was put in an exaggerated position to stretch the ligaments in the heel. Up to that time, you had not yet attempted to crawl or use your legs in any way, except to kick. The caseworker and foster mother reported that you seemed to have nightmares and occasionally would wake in the middle of the night, screaming. All believed that this was due to your foot and the remembered doctor’s treatment as you still cried and screamed when visiting the doctor’s office. In December, the cast was removed and the corrective shoe and brace were put back on. The doctor stated that he did see an improvement, but it was the maximum improvement to be expected until you began to walk. In January of 1962, the caseworker visited the foster home and reported that you were crawling around on the floor, but favoring your bad leg. She also reported that you were a very affectionate child who loved to be cuddled. The foster parents were encouraging you to “pull up” and stand, but at that time, you were not yet able to do so. It was also reported that you had experienced a rash and a loss of appetite. In February of 1962, the caseworker reported that you were much more active in the playpen and on the floor. Your foster parents had created a “bounce chair” so that you could use it to bounce with both legs, which you did. The caseworker described you as a very pretty child with an infectious smile. She reported that your hair was becoming slightly kinky and that you had a dark complexion and large expressive dark eyes. An earlier report stated that you were a very good-natured baby, but expected your share of the attention. In March of 1962, the caseworker reported that you were becoming very pretty and growing rapidly. At that time, you were able to pull yourself up in the crib and playpen and stand flatly on both feet, unassisted. The caseworker stated that you did not like her as she represented repeated painful trips to the doctor. It was reported that, as an infant, you would become quite hysterical upon entering the doctor’s office, as you recognized your surroundings and knew that the visits would cause you pain. Your Birth Father: Your birth father was 16 years old at the time of your birth. He was 5’5” tall and weighed 140 lbs. Your birth father was of African-American race, with a dark brown complexion. Your birth father completed his freshman year in high school and was later employed by an ice company in the Tampa Bay area. He was reported to be in good health and was very active in football and basketball teams. Your Maternal Birth Grandmother: Your maternal grandmother was 50 years old at the time of your birth. She was a native of Puerto Rico and claimed to be of Spanish descent. She was a petite woman, standing only 4’10” high, with a stocky build. She had dark brown eyes, coal black straight hair, and high cheekbones. She was bilingual, but she was more at ease when she spoke Spanish. Your maternal grandmother claimed that your birth mother’s pregnancy was the fault of both hers and of your maternal grandfather. She stated that the reason for this was that they had kept your birth mother employed at the market, where she was able to socialize with the local boys and girls. After learning of your birth mother’s pregnancy, your maternal grandparents withdrew all three of their daughters from the store and did not permit them to visit, except in cases of emergencies. Your maternal grandmother informed the caseworker that the family would not occupy the market for much longer as the Interstate Highway was to be built through their property. As a result, they would be forced to move as soon as they were given notice, which was expected to be in the next few months. They then planned to return to their home state and take your birth mother with them. In any event, your maternal grandmother claimed that she was taking your birth mother to their home state as soon as she gave birth. Your Maternal Birth Grandfather: Your maternal grandfather was 42 years old at the time of your birth. He was of Spanish descent, although he was born in Puerto Rico, and had an eighth grade education. He stood 5’4” tall and had a stocky build. He had dark brown hair, which was graying, dark brown eyes, an olive complexion, and wore a trimmed moustache. Your Maternal Birth Aunts: Your birth mother had two sisters. The eldest sister was 18 years old at the time of your birth. She was married, a high school graduate and unemployed. Her husband was employed as a salesman. The youngest sister was 11 years old at the time of your birth and attended the fifth grade. All of your maternal birth family was reported to be in good health. Your Paternal Birth Grandmother: Your paternal grandmother was reported to be a large, tall woman. Her leg was reportedly damaged as it was reported that your paternal birth grandfather had hit her leg with a hatchet. Nothing was known of your paternal birth grandfather. Your Paternal Uncle &Aunt: Your birth father had two siblings: an older brother, who was 24 years old at the time of your birth, and a younger sister, who was 10 years old at the time of your birth. Your birth father and your paternal grandmother were interviewed by the Hillsborough County Juvenile Court. During the interview, they both stated that they wished to parent you, if it were possible. Your birth father had stated that he wished to marry your birth mother, but that her parents would not consent to the marriage. A report, filed by the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court of Hillsborough County, Florida, determined that your birth mother was “the only person having a legal right” to you and that your mother was unable to give you “proper parental support.” The court determined that it was in your best interest that you be permanently committed to a licensed child-placing agency for subsequent adoption. Summary: Two days after your birth, your maternal grandfather called the hospital and requested permission to visit you. Permission was not granted, but he was given a description of you. The caseworker reported that she received an invitation to your birth mother’s wedding, which was scheduled in the summer of the year of your birth. Your birth mother was to marry a man other than your birth father. The caseworker wished her happiness and inquired in regard to a church wedding. Your birth mother replied that it was too expensive. During a telephone conversation with the caseworker, your birth mother was informed that she would be required to be present at the court hearing concerning the custody of her child. The date was to be set after her return from her honeymoon. At the hearing, the caseworker reported that your birth mother claimed to have “forgotten” the name of your birth father. The caseworker also noted that your birth mother’s husband was a house mover and that she seemed to be pleased with her marriage and was making a diligent effort to move forward. No further contact between your birth mother and the agency has been documented since that time. | ||

Hello!! I was born in St. Pete, but the adoption took place I guess in Sanford, Fl. I was apparently unadoptable, although not for mental or health reasons. I think there was some legal reason for me being first placed in a Foster family for ten months before being adopted. The Welfare Dept. was responsible for having acted as liason for the adoption.My adopted family was required to move out of the Pinellas County area. Orlando?? Unfortunately, my adopted Parents are not willing to give out any information, and are fanatically religious as well, so there is no hope of them ever changing their minds. I do know that my Pediatrician at the time was Dr. Wunderlich, and that is where My mother(adopted) saw me the first time. I find it too Heartbreaking to look too often or too long. HELLO My name is Kerin Eileen Hewitt. I am a 43-year-old female, born 04/26/61. I have just recently discovered that I am adopted. I'm trying to locate information on my birth family, but am currently starting from scratch, as I have no information to go on. My skin tone is that of an African-American, however, my odd hair texture indicates that I may be mixed - perhaps part native-American or Hispanic - but again, I don't know, I am only guessing. I was born with a clubbed foot, which was later diagnosed as polio. Although my birth mother might not have known about the polio, I believe that the foot would probably have been noticeable, if she saw me before they took me away. My birth certificate, which is only the size of a credit card (is yellow and laminated), which I am told is called an "amended certificate" shows my birth date as 4/26/1961, with a "record filed" date of 5/01/1961. This certificate shows my birthplace as Tampa / Hillsborough Co. Florida, with local registrar's number 2893. The doctor who signed this birth certificate appears to be John S. Neill, M.D.; however, his signature is only partially legible. His last name could be Hell, Ire ill, Quill or Burl. I was recently informed by Mt. Senior Higgins from Saint Lawrence Catholic church and school that he recalls calling Dr. Mrs. Hewitt asking them if they were interested in adopting me. They said yes it was through Catholic Charities Services in Tampa Florida and my social workers name was Ms. Franco. I also have been informed that my mother was from New York City. My family has never talked about this, so the information I have is very vague. The parents who ended up adopting me were an African American couple, Dr. John Lewis Hewitt, DDS and his wife, Vendarae Hewitt. However, Vendarea passed away when I was 10 years of age; shortly after that, the adoption was somehow rescinded and I was returned to foster care. I lived out the remainder of my childhood bouncing from one foster home to another. My aforementioned adopted father, Dr. Hewitt, was one of the first African American dentists to set up practice in Hillsborough County, and he has a sister named Marta. My aforementioned adopted mother, Vendarae maiden’s name of McFarlin, she had several brothers and sisters, named Constance, Pruth, Kernell, and Marcia or Martha. I don't know how much of this is relevant, but I am listing everything that I know, in the hopes that something might ring a bell to someone out there. What I could tell from it was that there was no mention of my BM's parents only her grandparents. My BM's grandpa was in the Navy and my sister was born on a Naval base mid May of 1985. So my sister is about a year or so older than me. On those papers it looks like my BM's name is Tracy Lee Elliott, or something to that affect.All the papers had her name blacked out and had "BABY GIRL" written in its place. I am very interested in knowing all I can about her and all of the family. I have recently contacted CHS and they said I couldn't see my file and that I had to contact a place in Jacksonville and then wait for them to contact me back. Looking for any birth family, I was born in a Public Hospital in Tampa, FL on August 6, 1968. Birth mother was 22 and single. Samuel E. Clayton was the attending physician. She signed consent on August 9, 1968. She left Tampa and returned to her home state in the Midwest after the birth. She was born in the summer of 1946, and was Rh negative. She was one of five children born to her parents; her mother was a registered nurse and her father an engineer. She was a graduate of a two year college with a degree in Business Administration.
