Comments:Hi. I am doing a masters degree in Occupational Therapy and most of it concentrates on those with disabilities and how they are percieved. I am about to do a presentation on Charities and the disabled and found some of your views interesting and have included them in my presentation. I think it is important for all avenues to be considered regardless of political interest. In fact from what I have discovered politics play a major part in the oppression of charities and disabled people anyway, therefore my interest is in what is right for the person not a politician. Thank you

First we would like to introduce ourselves. We have developed a new and serious online dating service for people with disabilities. The website address is: http://www.Disability-Love.com
The site is a “non-profit project”, is completely free of charge for every user and does not contain any commercial advertising.
Since your site addresses the same target group as Disability-Love.com we would be very grateful if you would be interested in a cooperation in the form or a link or bannerexchange.

I would be very happy to hear from you soon.

I was thinking, "this website isn't for me" and then I realized, "Oh, yeah, I'm certified handicapped". I think of myself first as a person, and only if my disability becomes a problem, then as a handicapped person.

Comments:Reg, the "flamed by email" wasn't referring to your post or any on the GB. In fact, I'm glad you've had the courage to put your views on the GB where others can respond.

I was referring to some of the emails I've had from the "email me" section of the site (not visible in public) - some of which have been not only petty and nitpicking, but ad-hominem (to say the least!) to boot.

You're still welcome to post here (I only censor spam, libel and blatantly oppressive language).

Hope that clears things up a bit :-$

Comments:Well, Reginald has certainly opened a lively discussion. Although I disagree with all the last 3 posters (being plagued by intense criticism seems to be a "black spot" of running a political website!), I do concede that the article on charities does need re-writing. The changing role of charities, the rise of NGOs, and the difference between charity managers and working class donors and helpers, deserves more of a mention.

I'll post here again when the article has been drafted. (Please don't be too disappointed, Reg and Roland, if it still don't please you. As I've said before when flamed by email - if you want a site that agrees entirely with your own viewpoint, create your own website!)

Comments:Im glad Im not the only one who thinks this web is too extreme. You cant go slagging off charities like that, theyre only trying to help you.

Do you really think orphans are unhappy about the good work of the Christian Brothers in Australia, the gypsies of Pro Juventute in Switzerland, or Irish women of the Magdalene Sisters? I've seen myself the good work charities do, during my tour of India back in '94 I saw how - with the backing of Union Carbide, a multinational company who you commies so detest - the crippled kids of Bhopal were helped. And here in Eyam, we wouldn't have been able to hold this year's Children In Need event at Eyam Castle if it wasnt for the kind bosses of Airtours and Ryanair who helped fund this fundraising event.

You really shouldnt be telling disabled people whats good for them. How would you loony lefties like it if whites started telling blacks what to do, or men telling girls what to do, or adults telling kids what to do??? Its only the same thing as what your trying to do.

Comments:My dear boy, your article on charity makes me very sad. Far from being evil, charity is one of the finest constituents of human nature, and is to be encouraged. Children in Need do a sterling job that needs to be done, and failure to recognise this would be churlish. You say that disabled people do not want Children in Need. Do I take it that you have canvassed the views of the entire disabled population, and found it to be unanymously anti-charity? I very much doubt it. I suggest that you are in fact projecting your own views onto the entire disabled community, whether they like it or not. You're peeing in everybody's soup because you don't want any.

There is no wholely communist side to peoples human nature, people aspire to change their lot in life as survival instinct (Look at China & Russia) to better themselves and family. Hence trade, landowners, business leaders and capatalism. Why you wasting you time & money on this website when your communist self being could help feed a family for a month in Rawanda or where ever because the capitalist in you judges your needs and comforts to be more important. Human nature will never tollorate that we all suffer eaqually. Every individual aspires to rise above their peers. Some people are mature enough to relise this early on in life.......what about you?

Comments:Red Disability is a political website, with the aim of removing the barriers in society which make disability into a handicap. As such, there isn't a lot of info of how to look after disabled people, because we would like to see a society in which disabled people have independent lives. However, in response to Mr Bacer's comments, we have added a section on links for carers.

However, we are not going to change our political views. Sorry to disappoint the pest from Eyam, but we still believe that disabled people should have equal access to employment, education, leisure, entertainment, transport and public facilities.

Comments:Well said, Mr Racer. I am 22 years old, and I too have been looking after my disabled nanna since the age of 16. I too am disappointed with this web. Where are the links to charity fundraising events, and tragic stories to make normal people feel sorry for the handicapped?

I am appalled by the idea that the handicapped should be allowed to do everything normal people do. How can a blind man play a piano, when he cant see the keys. And it would be ridiculous to expect a diabetic to play football in the premier league.

But the most ridiculous page on this web is the one that implies disabled people should be allowed into the army in non-combat jobs. If they cant fight as a soldier, theres no place for them. Its a bit like saying we should allow people to be air hostesses if they cant even fly a plane in an emergency, or allow someone to be the boss of an electronics company if they cant build or repair electronics stuff when the workers go on strike. Stop being so politically correct, and use your head for a change !!!

If you guys really want to help get disability rights, how about coming over to Eyam and helping me push my nanna up the stairs. Then youd see disability isnt just caused by society.

You obviously haven't been in a situation that calls for 24 hour care of another person, which I do daily. I wonder what is this site trying to do? because I am baffled as to a real purpose for it. just what is this? a vehicle to spread political propaganda.

Please at least have something relevant to the people you are aiming at, really is it too much to ask.

Comments:Hallo,

My name is Adryan Linden. I’m from Sweden.

In Sweden I’m well know as a radical disabilityculture/rights ideologue. I have created the idea of The Disability Nation and the ideology disability transnationalism. You get this message because I believe you could be interested in my thoughts and me.

We disabled need to create our own United Nations. Why? I strongly believe that we disabled all around the world are members of a own and common culture and we can only defend our people from the global injustice committed towards us by non-disabled with a global organization. This organization should be constructed in a similar fashion as United Nation, but more like a global parliament - this vision has a name: I call it The Disability Nation.

As I said in the beginning, I have created disability transnationalism.

It’s an ideology based on the vision that disabled with genetically disabilities or born with disabilities – are not disabled as in sick, but members of ethnical groups. This mean that the daily oppression and discrimination against us with genetically disabilities or born with disabilities are based on racism.
I hope this short introduction of me will lead to more interest in my thoughts and me, if it do –make contact with me!

Sincerely,

Adryan Linden

Comments:The question of whether you know what Capitalism means can be cleared up quite simply, by looking at the definition that you give:

“Capitalism is a world-wide system, in which the factors of production (that's the machines and factories used to make goods which we use) are owned by a tiny minority of people, who have enormous wealth. The rest of us must work for this tiny minority of capitalists, who make their obscene wealth by exploiting our labour power.”

The key characteristic of Capitalism is not the concentration of wealth in a tiny minority of people. It is the ability of individuals or collections of individuals (ie The Market) to make decisions regarding how best to employ Capital, as opposed to these decisions being made solely by the state. Capital is, in fact, not a dirty word. Capital is anything of value available for use in the production of other things of value. A farm is Capital. A hammer is Capital. A sickle is Capital. These are not bad stuff.

Comments:Actually, disability is not caused by capitalism (although the definition of what is considered a disability is determined by the needs of capitalism). It is the handicaps associated with disability that are the fault of capitalism. We hope, in the near future, to add an article explaining this in more detail.

If you don't think we know what capitalism is, and how it affects us, re-read the articles. Some of them, notably the "are we being unreasonable" article, also explain what we can do to fight against capitalism and its effects.

After the first few pages, it becomes quite funny that everything is always the fault of Capitalism. Disability is caused by Capitalism. Drought is caused by Capitalism. Mount St Helens blew up because of Capitalism. With every reference to it it becomes harder to believe that you know what Capitalism means, let alone have a substantial argument against it.

one comment, in your disability fact file you should include more info on invisible disabilities, such as epilepsy(i have epilepsy :) ),fibromalgya, athropose etc.
not that they exist in some kind of value dichotomy(one nore important than another)but they should get equal lip sevice.

Albert Einstein was autistic. In fact, Asperger's (a form of high functioning autism) is interchangeably referred to as Einstein Syndrome. It is believed that Isaac Newton was also an Asperger sufferer.

You failed to mention Isaac Asimov (famous physicist and science fiction writer), Glenn Gould (famous concert pianist) and Temple Grandin (inventor - still living) ... all of whom are autistics.
