NATHANIEL SANBURN was b. 27 Mar 1795 Canandaigua, Ontario Co., NY and died 17 Apr 1867. The family lived many years in Knox Co., IL until about 1855, when they moved to Franklin Co., KS His youngest daughter, Martha "Mattie" married a William BURTON (mispelled in marriage records as "BRUNTON") ON 10/6/1861 in Peoria, Franklin Co., KS, and later several of the families moved to Lawrence, KS. Another of Nathaniel's daughters, a widow, Sophia (Sanburn) FAREY also lived in Lawrence and was a school teacher there from about 1860 to the 1880s. Nathaniel, a widower, was living with daughter Martha and husband William S. BURTON in the 1865 census of Lawrence, Wakarusa Twp., Douglas Co., KS. William BURTON was a son of David (1812 VA) and Mary Fentress (1820 TN) BURTON, long-time Franklin Co., KS residents. 1865 KS State Census of Lawrence P. O., Wakarusa Twp., Douglas Co., KS, 19 Jun 1865, p. 51, line 20, dwelling 48, family 349: William Burton, 28, m, farmer, /$500, b. IN, married; Martha, 22, f, b. IL, married; NATHANIEL SANBURN, 71, m, musical instrument maker, $300/, b. NY. NATHANIEL SANBURN then died 17 Apr 1867, according to our family Bible records, but I don't know exactly where. I assume he died in either Lawrence, KS, or possibly Ottawa, Harrison Twp., Franklin Co., KS, as his daughter Martha and her husband were living there in 1870 onwards. I know that Martha and her husband William BURTON had at least two children, both of whom died in infancy or childhood, probably in Franklin Co., or the Lawrence, Douglas Co., KS area. Since Nathaniel died around the same time as the children's deaths, possibly they may be buried in the same cemetery in a family plot of some sort. Any info on these families would be very welcome. |

Robert Carty, wife Lucy, daughters Ada, Lillie, Cynthia, Della and Amanda. They moved from Kansas to Colorado in the 1890's. I don't believe Ada made it to Colorado, she either married or died, and I can't locate any information to this fact. Lillie Carty married Franklin Pierce Haworth in Kansas. The Haworth family consisted of father William, wife Jane, brothers John, William, Eli Monks and Franklin. Sisters were Sarah, Alice and Mary Ann and possibly one or two more. I have documentation stating that Eli came to Colorado and then went back to bring the rest of the family to Colorado but mom Jane and a sister not named died during his stay in Colorado.

| Query, Surnames: | I am searching for Benton Bradley who lived in Pomona Kansas in 1912 with his sister Margaret (Bradley) Crocker and her husband John T. Crocker. They are in the 29 Feb 1912 Pomona paper. There was a fire in Pomona that the paper said thought to be deliberately set for the purpose of burning the town. John Crocker lost a business and Benton and two small children were living in a building that burned. They got out safe but lost everything from the newspaper article. I would like to know what happened to them afterward. Is there a follow up on the fire in 1912? I know Benton was living in Pomona in 1910 by the census in Pomona Touwnship, Franklin County, Kansas listed with John Crocker and Mildred as brother-in-law age 45, and also a Hiram Bradley age 18 listed as nephew. Would love to know more about the fire and also what happened to Benton and his children? No clue found after 1912. |

Charles Jerffrey {Geoffroy} Peoria, Franklin, KS abt 1847 France and Ernest Jerffrey Peoria, Franklin, KS abt 1851 {1841} France were enumerated in 1870. Ernest was living in Cutler, Franklin, Kansas in 1880. According to Ernest's son, Frank's bio, the family came to US in 1849 and settled in Franklin county in 1855. I haven't found anyone by that name in the 1860 census. Possible children in the family are Ernest, Charles, Gregory, George, and T. J. all born in the early 1840's in France. Gregory and T.J. both served in the 12 KS INF in the Civil War. |

| Query, Surnames: | CARSNER or CASNER (related to PARKINSON) I have a family by the name of Jonas Carsner (sometimes spelled Casner) that was in Franklin County circa 1854 until 1862. He married Sarah Anna Jane Parkinson in 1847 in Polk County, IA. They started to OR in 1852 with the rest of the Parkinsons and the Casner, but Sarah who was expecting a child, was fearful of the trip and they turned back after only a few days. They stayed in Polk County, IA for a year or so before moving to'no man's land' in Franklin County circa 1854. Several Parkinson families already lived in Franklin County. The three daughters of Jonas and Sarah were born in Franklin County.
Would like to communciate with anyone who might be able to shed some light on this family during their stay in Franklin County. Am specifically interested to know if a photo exist of Jonas and Sarah and their children. Any information appreciated. |
