My Mom was a MacGillivry. We would visit my Aunt on Heelan St by the church. One of my Uncles had a soda fountain at the top of Plummer Av ( I always liked visiting him) Even though I was born and brought up in Boston we always summered in Nova Scotia 6 weeks in New Waterford and 2 weeks in Advocate Harbor Cape Breton has always felt like home to me, 5 years ago I took my wife and daughters to Cape Breton as we crossed the causeway they remarked how a feeling of home came over them. Its the truth! Laura was already gone when mom was an adult, and she lost contact with her half sisters.. I was born in New Waterford and my parents were born and raised there. We've been away for over 30 yrs and I encourage my parents to recall their childhood for me as I delve into our family history. I am the daughter of a coal miner , who is the son of a coal miner , who is also the son of a coal miner! Long history in my family of coal mining. I also married a coal miner!..anyway , I will be including my father's family's coal mining history in our family history book. He worked at #16 many moons ago while the other family miners worked there and at #14 & #12..It's good to see someone keep the interest in New Waterford History...Great work! Loved the pic's..
