I wanted to thank: * Looneys and their staff for having us and taking good care of us, those guys worked SO hard. * Crash Nelson and their crew for helping with the switchover, they ROCKED the place. * The Relic "regulars" for helping us with well...EVERYTHING * Marty and Mike from RECOIL. I found these bozos on BaltimoreBands.com. I had been looking to get back into a band for awhile and just couldn't find one that would work. Then I found a group of guys that were not only great players and good guys, but had their priorities straight and played great songs. I auditioned and knew immediately that it was the band for me. Well, those guys never called me back so I joined Relic. BUH-DUM-BAH! Seriously though, The last 2+ years have been unbelievable. I've made so many great friends and played to some great crowds in some great rooms. Thank you all for everything. Jon and I are doing the Recoil thing and that should be happening in a month or two. How do I really move on after this? It's hard to put things into words at this point because there is so much to say and so many thank you's and props to give out. I like to talk though. There are so many memories in such a short span but I really had the time of my life with this band. By this band I mean the guys in it and the people that supported it. I think of my extended family now from the friends I made along the way. I remember hooking up with Brian and Woz, Bob and Vin when I began playing again after about 18 years. There was always something missing and they helped me to find it in my basement (CUZ was there from the very start of the Madison Square John's Basement Tour). Then Rex came along and we pulled our resources to really stretch out to more people and places - plus, we now had a website. I think about the bars that booked us and gave us a shot and the people there that watched us for the first time and were surprised at what they heard. I think to a person, we all appreciated every chance we got to play somewhere new. It really grew into something more than I would have dreamed of, but knowing the players in this band it was something that was almost expected. I have always believed that there are so many talented musicians out there but only so many you can actually be in a band with. This is even more true when we have to include our real lives and what comes with that. Sure we're just a cover band but the fun factor is phenomenal! We met the "Bitches" through other bands and different venues and the actual love and appreciation for playing now had faces and names. I am sure that the relationships forged with them will last a long, long time. I have met a lot of cool chicks in my long lifetime of meeting chicks and I have never really seen so many in one place than when we have a gig. And my beautiful wife loves them too (she's also a sports fan so I am truly blessed)! I always knew that it wouldn't last forever and the only reason it would ever stop for me was if it was no longer fun or if Mary and I had a baby. When Mike and then Jon came into the band it just somehow became 100 times more fun. For those two and for and the new bitches I really wish we could keep going. But who would have know that I had Olympic swimmers for sperm? When I see that baby's face my whole outlook on what is important to me will change. I know that there were weekends that I had to go right to work after a gig - or actually play a gig in between working and that would just wipe me out. But really, what the hell would I be doing anyway? Playing in a good band totally fucking rocks. I just hope that I could do it again before I'm too old to even be in a classic rock band. ...and I wonder, when I sing along with you- If everything could ever be this real forever...if everything could ever be this good again? |

Believe it or not the first time I saw you guys play it was also at Champions three years ago. I was dragged out by Wendy to see you guys and also met the JJRODD clan. I loved what I heard, I loved what I saw, and well you stuck with me. Through the good memories, the "oh my god" memories, the bad memories and the best ever memories. and friendships were made, especialy with "Speedbitch". That a little inside joke with the bitch names took off with every person that posted on here, and was something that the band became to love. So many things that only make sense when we are at shows, and then the pictures that proove it when we forget.....go look. Rex, we have enough of our inside jokes of our own, but those aside, your are a great person and friend. I am glad that even after a year and half you have finally come to accept Freddies. I'll miss making my blonde jokes at you, but if you scroll back through all the pictures of the past few years, you have to admit, I am sooooo right. John and Chicken, I will miss seeing you guys. I wish you all the best with your new adventures of Bella. Amazing parents is an understatement, Bella will have the best parents a girl could ask for, and and extended family full of love. John; stop working so hard, and enjoy fatherhood!! Brian, your enthusiasm when your on stage is one of a kind. Thanks to everyone who braved the weather and came out to see us last night at The Barn. The crowd was awesome. There were alot of faces there that we haven't seen in a while as well as many new ones. It was great to see you all. We had a blast, and because of you, we ended it all by (what Brian would say) bringing the rock. Pictures will be posted shortly from the show. Be sure to check out RELICOUSTIC in the future as Keith and I will continue to play 2-4 acoustic shows a month at some local Harford and Baltimore County venues. This website will continue to promote these shows, and will host pictures from both past and future shows. Also check out the new project of Mike and Jon which made their debut at The Barn last night. The name of their new band is Recoil - or as we like to say, RELIC with an 'O'. We will all continue to hang out at the shows of our friends from the bands Tripwire, Crushing Day, Faded Image, Voicebox, Phoenix Rising, Starcrush, Without Reason, Silvertung, Resist, Unbroken, Beyond the Scar, Crash Nelson and soon to arrive...Shift. And big props have to be given to Kory and voicebitch because of how hard they worked to get the Coalition Conjunction together. I think the second time you saw me at the Barn was at Damon's first show. It was the beginning of the guerilla-style moonings that became a staple of the entertainment portion of any show as well as a great way to show respect from one Rat Bastard to another (besides throwing any objects that were not nailed down). If anything, it made a few drummers at least entertain the thought of changing their underwear on the weekend. Things became clandestine when one crazy bastard decided to actually purchase objects and bring them to a show and pass them out to others to throw. And so the standard was set.... | Comments: | Okay .. I have a minute to breathe and I wanted to share my Relic memories. I have been friends with all current and former members since I can remember seeing them at The Corner Stable .. (blast from the past)!! At that time I had just met Steve and did not know the other members .. although I remember thinking jeezz .. does that bald drummer really need all of those drums ..:)))
That night is also when I was introduced to "Little" Steve .. and we know what terror lay waiting for me in years to come .. LOL!! The next meeting with a "Relicor" was when we were playing The Barn and John came up and introduced himself. We talked shop for a little and he talked about hopeing one day to play at The Barn ..(ironic) and obviously he surpassed his expectations by being in a band that is one of the biggest draws at The Barn!! I started to get to know everyone though friends of friends and then eventually "The Coalition". Everyone can say what they like about that era .. BUTTT I was able to meet a lot of great people from other bands as well as friends who followed and supported each band .. which has lead to a lot of great friendships! In hindsight .. I am happy that happened and think it helped the Baltimore music scene as a whole and still continues to this day! Since that time .. The guys in Relic have become true friends .. pranks, laughs, sit-ins .. pranks .. this is why each of play in a band for the brotherhood that evolves from musician to musician! To add on to that .. I have been afforded the great priviledge to befriend all of the Relic Family .. Mary, Mindy, Tracy,Tom,Bonnie, Karen, and everyone else that is not listed! To be playing and look out into the crowd and see the faces of all of you .. is really AWESOME!! I will never get tired of experiencing that, as I know the same lies true with the members of Relic! This has been carried on with the additions and return of Mike,Jon and Brian. They carry on the tradition within the Relic Camp of playing well but not taking yourself too seriously! All of you have always supported all of the local bands aside from yourself and have always shown class while doing it! I have no doubt while this era is ending, another one will begin in some form or fashion .. not to mention a great new edition to this world coming in December!!! John, Steve, Brian, Jon, Mike, Keith, Allan, Bob, Steve W... Thanks for the great times and here's to many more!! |
