Hi & thanks, again, to everyone who signed into this book. I just wanted to give you an update and refer to a couple of the messages here. Tuffy is doing well in Boston. Her two boys are getting along great despite their rough start in life. They have the same inner strength their mom has. Got a picture of the two boys at Christmas and they look great. Saw Tuffy's mom and Mr. Leitch at Nationals in Dallas and they two are doing well. Life here in Scottsdale is crazy but extremely rewarding. Our skaters are doing really well and we have great atmosphere for the kids to train in. Last year was a lot of fun as our rink hosted a NACS and the Jr. Grand Prix at which a few of our good friends from Canada were here coaching skaters in the event. One of those friends was Kevin Wheeler, whom Tia likes and started a website for which I think is GREAT! I too am a fan of Wheels, he came back from having a large tumor removed from around the muscles in his leg and competed at the Canadian Championships that same year (with Michelle Menzies). I still recall watching him come back after surgery and was so amazed at how he pushed through the rehab and went against the doctors orders by returning to the ice - which they didn't believe he could do! Tia, many of you don't know how close all of us were at Preston. I was in Kevin's wedding party. I also thought Wheels & Tuffy were a great pair, unfortunately by the time Tuffy returned from a two year hiatus with stress fractures she had grown a few inches but Kevin had not. He had also started skated with Michelle Menzies by that time. Another little tidbit is that Kevin, Tuffy, Michelle and I skated fours together at the Canadian Championships in Ottawa - I looked like the big monster with the hockey helmet on due to my skull fracture. NOW - regarding the "nice" message about Tuffy wanting to get away from me. I know who wrote that message and you are very funny - not! Anyone who knows our story know how close Tuffy & I have always been. She was my "Best Man" and I was her "Dad" at our respective weddings. Our lives are on seperate paths now but we still keep in touch, and have actually talked about doing one more show - it would have to be a charity event, something that benefits kids who were not as fortunate as us. I would also have to get back in shape for that as the years are taking their toll on me! keep supporting Figure Skating everyone. doug |

Those are memories that I will never forget. Tuffy and Doug were great role models and I will never forget the cold mornings at Conestoga College doing stroking classes with the seniors, and all the ice show practices. If I recall correcty Doug's previous partner was Lynn Frasen and Tuffy's previous partner Kevin Wheeler (before her short break from skating). Speaking of Tuffy, I must correct your biography..she did NOT get the nick name Tuffy from the dangerous moves she did with Doug, she infact had this nick name prior to even pairing up with him. strong person. I know of her personal struggles and I can only hope that she has overcome her battle with anorexia. I always wanted to reach out to her and let her know that she was not alone but it is difficult to express that to a stranger much less hear it from one. It is an ongoing everyday process... but she is strong... however if she ever needs to reach out she has many friends and family members to support her. Was off the ice for 5 weeks then we made it on the world team for our first time where we placed 8th. Now Tuffy is still living the married life in Boston. I was Performance Director for Stars & STN last year and will return again this year.
