| Comments: | What a fab day we had at the sponsored walk on Sunday 2 September. We are very proud of our niece Hannah in wanting to help raise funds for Rescued Racers. A big thank you to all the greyhound families who sent sponsor money to Liz - you are all very kind and generous people. Sarah had a 'well done' treat in the form of her very first ice cream in a tub! She eyed it up rather suspiciously to begin with and then tucked in with great gusto. We have made lovely new friends (including those of the furry kind) and will welcome the opportunity to help with more fund raising in the future. |

I bought a pink one for my little Sarah last year and its lovely and they are not over priced either. Hope this helps.

| Comments: | My husband and I will be getting our first greyhound March 10th and are so excited. We have been to meet and greets and last weekend we helped with a haul that saved 16 dogs from being put down. That was the trip that made us sure we wanted one. She was a brood mom and she is 5 years old. I went to pet smart last night to start buying things for her but was disappointed that they did not have any "pretty collars' for greyhound. Will look somewhere else. I have bought a 48 inch create for her, will that be big enough? We travel a lot, anyone know of motels that will let us keep her with us?
Thanks,Saundra |

| Comments: | Well, well - I have just come across this superb site - and what a pleasure it is to read all the excellent comments from Greyhound owners.
My husband and I adopted two greyhounds two years ago - and within a week they got 'right under our skin' - we adore them! I heard a saying the other day " there are dogs and there are greyhounds ...." and it is so true. My daughter is in the process of adopting a greyhound cross - they are magical animals and I wish more could be done to highlight their excellent temperment. Love to everyone who cares for these sweet creatures, Regards, Jackie Campbell Stonehouse, Gloucestershire |

Very sad news concerning our little Misty, the little long haired dashchund pictured with Billy and in the more recent photos with Toby. She has not ben well the last few months and this week her health has deteriorated yet again. We see the vet again tomorrow evening and I think that is when some very difficult decisions must be made. We are so upset. Misty so loves Billy and it is so sweet the way he cuddles up to her. | Comments: | Having seen first hand the carnage done to Phantom & Morse by this potentially killer dog it never fails to astonish me the resilience of greyhounds and how they can somehow always fight against adversity, but on this occassion, although Phantom seems to be out for revenge, Morse on the other hand has become very withdrawn and reserved and is definitely not the dog he was before the attack. I have to question the policy of the Police when they explained that the said dog won't be distroyed since this was its first offence. Has the law gone mad? In my humble opinion it sadly has and it seems to be in place to protect the culprit and not the victim. Liz has now been left with a Vet bill of over £500 in the first instance with another bill of £200 for both dogs to have all the stiches removed and for Morse to have the wires removed from his jaw, which will once again result in a day in the vet and another anaesthetic.
I don't know if anyone else agrees with me but this animal SHOULD BE DESTROYED the next time it could be a CHILD. |

| Comments: | Yesterday my 2 beloved Greys, Morse and Phantom, were attacked by a Pit Bull X. They were on their leads, going for a stroll, when this dog came from no-where, he was not on a lead and had no collar on either. They have very serious injuries, and are at the moment, in the vets, under the expert care of Sebastiano, in Bury Port. They are both having operations, Morse having his fractured jaw set, and a very deep gash in his leg repaired. Phantom having his lip stitched and a very deep wound on his back stitched. When will people realise that it is not fair on every law abiding dog owener, that breeding these Pit Bulls,IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.

| Comments: | Dear Sam & Liz
A big thank you to you both for all your efforts in finding our wonderful, big boy, Billy for us. We adopted him on the 17th May, just over a week ago and it is like he has always been with us. He has settled in beautifully and is, at the moment cuddled up on his duvet with our other little dog, Misty, a female long haired dachshund. We get some funny looks taking them out together. No, change that, I have been missing for more than five minutes and they are both now sitting at my feet in front of the computer. Thank you both for chosing so carefully for us, especially as we already have little Misty. We have no hesitation in recommending Rescued Racers, Sam & Liz and of course greyhounds to anyone. Thanks Love Nancy & Bob |

| Comments: | There used to be a picture of a very pretty black and white greyhound bitch on this site. Sadly, due to my insistance, that picture is no longer there.
The greyhound's name was Grace and she was responsible for initiating what is now my obsession with greyhounds in general. Sadly, Gracie passed away on October 27th 2004 - exactly four weeks to the day after her favourite companion Danny passed away. Since then I have lost yet another of my beloved greyhounds - Mercury died on February 11th 2005. My life is still blessed with three beautiful greys - Dermot, now approaching 11 years; Neelix, aged 10; Mair, the baby , aged just 2. Along with their other two canine companions (a border collie and a GSD) and their three feline companions (not all greyhounds are the killers they're made out to be!), the greys keep me pretty busy. But there is a huge void in my life that will never be filled - as anyone who has ever lost a companion knows. I am writing this just on the off chance that there is anyone out there who knew Gracie, Danny or Mercury and who will remember them with a smile. It helps to keep their memories alive. |

| Comments: | Hi, Happened upon this site by chance, and so glad I did! Its very interesting and informative. I also love reading the success stories.
It looks like no one has signed this guestbook for a while now. I am the proud companion of two gorgeous greys: Sally came to live with me 3 years ago, she's 8 now, and Rocket came to live with me just over a year ago, he's 6. Sally was handed over to a rescue kennel in Essex at the end of her running career, and although Rocket has tattooed ears all I know is that he was confiscated from a poacher! Is there anybody out there living in mid-Cornwall, UK who would like to join us on outings to the beach or wherever for walks (ok, human chats while the greys race!)? Sal and Rocket dont really like other breeds of dogs but love the company of other greys, whippets and lurchers.....strange how they know, huh?! If you live locally and would like some company on your trips out, please email me. Thanks! |

Well she has arrived Molly is her name and thanks to Rescued Racers it looks like Molly's family history is on it's way. What a wonderful service and what a wonderful website. Molly and Murphy are now the best of friends. I love them to bits and try and convince everyone I meet who is looking to get a dog to at least look into getting a Greyhound and I am pleased to say that I have had some success. I have never looked back. I will be adding Molly and MUrphy's picture to this site so you can all see my beautiful babies. |

She is an Irish girl, eartagged ZQP on the left and UP on the right. Her racing name was Mary's Rascal. She raced in Ireland until April 2000 when she was exported to England but we don't know where she was from then until summer 2003 when Greyhound Rescue took her in. She is a beautiful, well mannered girl, and I think she must have been with a family before us as she was totally unfazed by my 5 young children!! Someone must know where she was for 3 years and we would love to find out. Please help if you can. Many thanks, and happy hours with your hounds! |

| Comments: | Our Baby is Hercules (Herky) we've had him nearly 3 yrs, he'll be 8 in February & he his our world he is so unasuming & gentle, each day he suprises us with yet another new quirk, people make assumptions that greyhound arn't adaptable well Herky proves them wrong! This year we took him camping in Cornwall in a 3 man dome tent, He had the most duvet of course! He was off his lead around the camp site & at the beach, both me & my husband nearly cried at the sight of him running so freely enjoying the sand & the sea, he even tried rock climbing but it was a bit slippy for him. After the day was done he snuggled on his bed & dreamt of the day that had past & what the next would bring, 1 thing was for certain our cooked breakfast every morning got his nose twitching!
We are hoping to adopt a girlie for him early next year so he can have someone to snuggle when we're not home. What a great site this is, & what great dogs!!!!! |

| Comments: | hi
Paul and Gemma here again, just to let you all know we are now the proud owner of a lovely greyhound bitch, Molly She is 13 weeks old and looks like a tiger with some wonderfully weird markings i havent seen on another grey before. Molly was rejected from the racing scene, i think this is because she just isnt interested in doing anything else but playing.. She is really healthy now and is putting weight on gradually, at first she was extremely skinny and just all bones.. She now has a happy life lazing around and playing with Gemma's parents dog... She's also got this very weird habit of collecting mobile telephones and taking them to bed. Can anyone explain this one then ???????? Here's to all the greyhound owners in the world as they know what the best time of dog to own really is.. Oh and by the way we have now bought our first house and have already said that as soon as we move in then we will get another grey but this time and older Proper ex-racer who deserves some spoiling and pampering regards Paul, Gemma and Molly |

| Comments: | Firstly what a lovely web site. I live in South Australia and adopted our first grey Smokey 7 months ago. He was ready to be put to sleep and GAP rescued him. My family is so glad that they did and that he came to live with us. Because Smokey came from another state (Queensland) they wanted to send us a bomb proof dog because it wouldn't have been easy if all had not worked out.
I never really considered what bomb proof meant but after reading other peoples stories and web sites I realise how easy we have it. Smokey is not shy with strangers, LOVES my 2 young girls to death isn't frightened of thunder.. well you get the picture, thats not to say if there were a few quirks we wouldn't have worked through them with him. Smokey has the best of everything and if the budget allows he will have a friend soon and if not I will foster so that I can give something back and hopefully get another wonderful dog ready for it's new home. To everyone out there that does their small part for these amazing animals , Thankyou !!! Regards Shirley. P.S have a look at his website if you have a chance and see why I fell in love. |

| Comments: | We have had a wild border collie cross called Molly for the best part of ten years, originally from Battersea, and 18 months ago we introduced her to Bradley (formally known as Knock It Back and affectionately known as BIG!). At first she was slightly wary of him but they soon became friends and now she has taught him (much to her delight) many of her naughty habits. Watching him grow from an underweight, very neurotic and seriosly emotionally and physically scarred wreck to a really happy and settled family dog has just been amazing. It's really refreshing to see that there are so many people around the country that take on ex-racers ands who i think will agree that letting a greyhound discover who they are is incredibly rewarding. However one of the problems we have had with Big is that he suffers from terrible night terrors. We've grown used to this but do fear that is is very distressing for him. Does anyone have any further hints as to how we can try and make his sleep at night a bit calmer? Thanks a lot and keep up the good work. Alice, Molly and Big |

We then got Tiger as a companion for him a year ago.I love them to bits and they spend all their time curled up in front of the radiator asleep! It is wonderful to know there are others out there just as devoted to the food theif, escape artists as us! |

She has converted all of my friends who didn't really understand what greyhounds were like until they met her. I originally got her as a companion to my blue merle, Border Collie Patch and they get on famously!
I was first introduced to greyhounds when we bought a greyhound in a sydicate last year (Coolmohan Darkie). He is also black with a white chest and i was so proud to parade him before his races. He has since been sold & is racing in Peterborough (not very successfully! so i have called them to ask to contact me when he finishes racing - i think Darkie will be my second greyhound!) | Comments: | Before Feb 2001 I was not a dog owner. When we thought about getting a dog my husband recommended a grey - due to their low maintainance, lovely temperament etc We went to our nearest rescue centre (Evesham Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue) and came away with a Saluki/Greyhound. Eight months later we collected Mac - a four year old ex-racer-from the same place. The pleasure that these dogs bring is simply indescribable and when I read such things as the torture of the Spanish greyhounds and their death by hanging it brings me close to tears.
All we can do is keep educating our friends, family, people who stop us in the street to ask about our dogs and hope that people will become more educated and start to react and object to the awful goings on here, in Ireland and abroad. |

I am not a Greyhound owner, but my sister has a 5 year old dog named Ashley (racing name Ashtown Hill) who I take for a walk every weekday. He's a wonderful chap and very good natured. He keeps all the family amused for hours on end. My sister is also a big fan of the site, and through it she has been provided with Ashley's pedigree details - something well worth having and keeping.
Well done Sam - keep up the good work. |

| Comments: | Hi! My boyfriend and I have two ex-racing greyhounds. We got Goldie nearly 6 months ago, and because he is so beautiful, Tiger 2 days ago! Although Tiger appears to be settling in quite well, he can be nervous. Goldie isn't really showing much inclination to be friends with Tiger, and they mostly ignore each other, except on walks where they will walk side by side occasionally. Is this normal? and has anyone else had this problem?
Also, is it easier to buy a chain which they can both be put on for their walks, as 2 leads is a handful?!! We will have pictures soon which we'll put on..... |

| Comments: | What a wonderful site! Just homed a rescue greyhound that I've named Ben. He was abandoned in Northampton, but that's all I know about his appalling past life. The vet thought he was about 6 years old, but we've established from his ear tattoo that he is actually only 3! He was born in Bicester, near Oxford, and is a brindle.
Ben has a broken rib and his tail is also broken in several places. And he's 7kg underweight. He has the sweetest nature of any dog I've known and I feel honoured that he is starting to love me. I've had a couple of horrendous years and so we need each other! After just a week he is my constant companion and snuggles up on the sofa with me in the evenings. Don't know what I'd do without him now. Need 20 more! (If only!) I'd really like to meet other fans in the Milton Keynes area, so please mail me. |

| Comments: | Hello there,
I am an ex-racer (quite sucessful) now living in the lap of luxury with my pals and humans. I was adopted from Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare and I went to live with an older Greyhound called Eddie. We moved from London to Dorset where another ex-racer called George joined us from the Arc at Portsmouth and what a bad boy he is, always in the rubbish and stealing any food not guarded for a second. He once got locked in a room with lots of Christmas presents. He opened them all and consumed all the chocolate and biscuits including some brandy liquers. We're sure he locked himself in!! Anyway, he got his comeuppance because he had a sore tummy for days. In time, poor little Ed passed away but within 3 weeks, our humans had fostered Cougar, a lurcher who settled in with no problems at all. However, all hell broke loose last Christmas when our humans adopted a one and a half year old straight from Poole Stadium. Storm is her name. Our humans named her that because she's quick as lightning, wakes us up in the middle of the night and leaves puddles everywhere. They didn't want her at the race track because she wouldn't chase but we love her. After ruining the garden, going through countless bags of rubbish, catching but not killing our neighbours rabbit (she brought it home holding it gently as a present we think when it escaped into our garden). Can't understand why she didn't kill it because she "killed" nearly every dog bed in the house!! However, she now seems to have calmed down and is almost like the rest of us laidback greyhounds. To anyone out there thinking of adopting a human, their not bad really!!!! Love and licks Daizee, George, Cougar and Storm Pictures to follow once our humans buy a scanner. |

| Comments: | Hi 2 weeks ago we adopted Nellie a 2 year old female brindle. We are so in love. She was doing great the first week and then on Sunday of the following week she became ill. We took her to an ER VET spending hundreds of dollars. They do not know what was wrong with her. They did all the bloodwork and it all came back neg. Only thing was her platelets were low. 5 days later blood was rechecked by her regular vet and now her platelets are fine. The Vet is keeping her on antibiotics for two more weeks and prendisone for 1 month.
Even though she has cost us around 700.00 in a short time we are not sorry we adopted her. She is attached to me most. I think this will change as she becomes even more used to us. She is such a love. To anyone who is thinking of doing this I say GO FOR IT you won't regret it. |

wonderful - lovely to see all the pics of the dogs and the stories of dogs & their owners. I have 3 greyhounds now, 2 are retired racers and 1 is an adorable but a little bugger, 10 month pup. I would just like to mention that greyhounds are wonderful pets for disabled people. My husband who is in a wheelchair has no problems with them - only the usual problems that we all have to put up with like not getting up off the floor when they are feeling lazy! It is always brilliant to hear of dogs going to wonderful homes and it's sites like this one that put your faith back into human nature when you hear loving stories. Keep up the good work. |

| Comments: | Love your site!! We've got two ex-racers: Suzie (Sail to
Victory) and Penny (Lisheen Suzy). They are the most gentle, tolerant dogs I've ever known; how many other adult dogs could walk into a home containing two cats, ten ferrets, three rats, one snake, numerous fishtanks and a psycho bunny (now rehomed after savaging me once too often) and slot straight in after two hours? The girls only needed telling once, and soon figured out that the price of a comfy sofa was ignoring the other beasties. They have their foibles; Penny hates going out in the wet and will hold her water (and hold it and hold it) until she just can't hold it any more - small puddle in the dining room at about 3am!! Oh well. Now we know what causes it, we chase her into the garden and stand with her until she goes! Suzie's great weakness is loo roll. We once came home from work to discover eight toilet rolls removed from their package and shredded on to our bed - no piece larger than the palm of your hand, and about knee deep! We now hide the loo roll. By the way, has anyone got any tips on obedience training greyhounds? I know they can 'sit' and 'down' but only when they feel like it. I took Penny to local obedience classes - I thought she might like it, and am determined to prove the untrainable label wrong - we wound up as the comic relief. She was awfully good at 'stand stay', ie stand gazing into space doing nothing and looking noble!!!!!! Ah well, must go. Give your hounds a hug from me! Speak soon. |

| Comments: | We rehomed a greyhound called Buffy (racing names Lunar
Queen/Blind Judgement) throught the RGT last year. Sadly, she was put to sleep at the end of July due to irrepairable nerve damage and arthritis due to the racing (and appalling kennel conditions where she was kept). It turns out that the vets thought her records were fake and made her out to be around 5, when she was in fact nearer 10. We loved her a great deal, and would love to rehome another greyhound, but feel that we would never find one that was ok with our two cats, or with as good a personality as our Buffy. Keep up the good work though, as greyhounds make the best pets, lazing around and there when you need them, not at all hyper as people make them out to be! Although, Buffy did have her moments..... | Comments: | I have just discovered your website.
I rescued an ex racer in March. He is seven years old and goes by the name of Murphy (once Silver Tab) He became stuck to my side like glue, which was lovely, in some respects but also a cause for concern in others as he had a strange aversion to other dogs of either sex. As I eventually wanted 2 greyhounds I contacted the Greyhound Rescue West of England (where I had Murphy from) and they came up with a possible match, a 2 year old bitch, name of Mellow. A miracle happened and Murphy decided that of all the dogs he had met he quite liked this one, in a distant sort of way. He has never hurt her and even developed a sort of tolerance to other dogs, as long as they are introduced slowly. It is now 6 months since the introduction of Mellow and they have finally learned to play together, either alone or with toys and any rugs or items of clothing which happen to be in the way. To get these 2 previously misunderstood dogs this far has been a pleasure and I feel that there is now no turning back. I would recommend greyhounds to the majority of prospective dog owners and wish I had known how easy they would be earlier. Keep up the good work Sue |

four years old. It was love at first sight. and our love has grown over the years. He does get into mischief, he oftens gets the loo roll and you find it chewed up on the bed. But when he looks at you, how can you tell him off. I also have an ex-racer, her name is Mouse, she got her name because she nibbles your hands, she is also a great smiler, when she does something bad you tell her off and she just smiles at you, and you melt. Her racing name was Moore Marvel, is was born in England. Greyhounds make the best pets, sadly people think otherwise. |
