Comments: I don't have a lot of time to view the webpage... I am a little busy with 3 boys and a husband in 2 svc bat for the last 7 yrs.....yes I wonder how that happened myself sometimes...but as a military spouse you know how time just slips away when your not looking.... I remember when my husband was in Bosnia in 2003, he left early to replace some one who needed to come home .... he missed xmas with my children as well... and felt low priority moral spoke of in the poem "The Forgotten Tour"....I was the only one in a group of friends with a spouse not in Afghanistan and I remember the sadness ....I carried so much guilt because everyone kept telling me that even though Scott was gone for 7 months at least he was safe... that was the year I never saw so much snow, every time the plow went by I cried ...and I am a strong maritime girl who is very independent with 3 tours under my belt already.....but this felt so different.... after my husband returned we received word he was slotted for the next roto to Afghanistan... he was excited.... and I was in shock this means he would be away again over the holidays.... we discussed it at great lenght... I would never tell him not to go ...this is what he does ...who he is as a professional.....with my older son away every second xmas this would have us spread everywhere again and I couldn't bear it...I asked him to see if they would let him go on the earlier tour that would have him leave in less than a year after returning from Bosnia..... needless to say everyone thought I was crazy.... 7 more months away was a long haul.....but the pain was easier to take.... I know other wives can often say cruel things ...no one likes to talk about that part of military life....and some even have the I 've suffered more than you" attitude but reading the poem about the forgotten tour put it all in perspective for me.....in the end you have to be able to look yourself in the mirror... and see the real you, who sometimes can be lost in the camo, and you have to make decissions for yourself and most of the time it's damage control....There are days I hate this life ..and then I listen to the laughter, love and joy from my boys, all four of them I see the happiness on their faces ...I wear my invisible ribbon with pride and the medal my husband gave me for my years service which I hold close to my heart ....he tells me I've earned it........ we all have our place in this ARMY one needs the other to succeed hang in there girls your contribution will not go unnoticed... even though it may seem so... thank you Dianne for being the light in the distance to bring us back to the homefire

Comments:So i've been in Petawawa now for a few months and im finding it really hard to make true friends. I just read Dianne's latest book and it has raised my spirits being a military girlfriend that I will eventually meet wonderful friends. I just kind of feel like the odd one out. I kind of overheard that one of the women in a group im in here thinks im a little bit of a snob. I hate hearing those things. I may be from toronto and i was raised in a upper class lifestyle but i've left that all behind me to support the man I love. You should never judge someone on where they came from or the background they may have. Im just looking for a few true friends in this town....Is it that hard to find?

I am quite nervous no one in my family nor any of my friends have ever been in the military so everthing is very new to me. I am very proud of him this is what he has wanted to do for a very long time. I am however nervous about being posted we have a 13 year old and a 1 year old. It's my 13 year old I worry about adjusting. I have done so much research since my husband has chosen this life that I had no idea how ignorant I was to military life I never thought I would have so much respect for military personal as I do now the wives and husbands I hope I can be as strong as you all and thanks for this site now I feel like I can talk to people that already know what I am feeling and help me to adjust. I am deeply saddened by the way in which your efforts with the Eternal Flame monument have been "snuffed out". It's shameful and a disgrace! It is aweful to think that these actions have lead you to thinking of retiring. Let's hope that whomever takes over your position has half the strength and vision as you obviously possess.

I can't believe it as I read more I search more & when I search more.I shake my head more . I REALLY CAN'T BELIEVE IT !!.

WHAT IS GOING ON UP THERE ??! THE POWERS THAT BE? TELL YOU ONE THING AND A SHORT TIME LATER SAY OOOPPS! SORRY NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT! THERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT REALLY BOTHER ME AND THAT IS:

1.DO THEY EVEN CARE ABOUT ALL THE WORK THAT HAS BEEN PUT INTO THIS ALL READY, AND HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE INVOLVED SOULY FOR THE TROOPS & THEIR FAMILIES. BENIFITING NOTHING AT ALL FOR THEMSELF.

2. HOW MANY TROOPS AWAY HAVE ALL READY HEARD ABOUT THIS WONDERFUL MONUMENT & FLAME PROJECT IN THEIR HONOR. HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THIS TO THEM. TOP BRASS SAID OOOPPS! SORRY! MADE A MISTAKE, CHANGES MY MIND.

I CAN NOT BELIEVE IT AND I'M SURE NONE OF YOU CAN!
GUESS WE'LL HAVE TO THINK THAT THE LITTLE GUYS ARE GETTING ALL THE CREDIT. THAT IS A NO NO AND SOME TIMES PEOPLE DO THINGS FOR THAT REASON.

ALL CONCERNED YOU KNOW YOUR HEART IS IN THE RIGHT PLACE & YOU WILL BE REWARDED SOME DAY.

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND

Comments:Hi All
I'm not a Military Wife but a Military Mom and I've been looking for sites to correspond with other Moms. My son Matt is just finishing basic training at Camp Borden so we are all still adjusting to the life of a military family. Worst part - not having my regular Sunday morning breakfast with him to 'catch up' - best part I don't have to slip him $50 bucks every weekend to ensure that he has some money in his pocket. LOL
I was interested in knowing if there are any projects going on currently among the wives and mothers - fund raisers?, baby blankets for Afghan clinics?, restocking schools in Afghanistan?, etc. I was hoping to be able to contribute more.
I would love to hear from other Moms and anyone else interested in contacting me.
Sincerely
Ruth Readyhough

Comments:Greetings from Winnipeg! Your website is beautiful. In 2005 I lost my own husband, a firefighter, due to a sudden medical situation. While dealing with this tremendous loss, when I heard about military spouses promoting the idea of wearing red on Fridays to support our Canadian military, the thought came to my mind that wow, these men and women of our military were putting their lives on the line and some of their spouses may not return safely home to their loved ones. Actually, the late CPL Jeffrey Walsh was a relation of mine (distant) on my father's side. My late husband's father was in the military. I had uncles in the forces. My own father was in the RCMP. So in a way, I feel a connection and with that, I began what I would call a 'modest mini-campaign' here in Winnipeg, to encourage people to wear red on Fridays. What greater way for Canadians to show they care than by actively participating in wearing red! The message is spreading from coast to coast! We need not be bashful in our Canadian pride! The outpouring of support for our troops, wherever they've been deployed, is tremendous. Let's keep up the flag waving and be proud Canada!

I just want to say that I was glad to have had this site reccommended to me by a friend! My boyfriend is overseas and this is the first time that I have ever had to deal with something like this. I find it very difficult having someone I love not only being away from home for months at a time but to be over there fighting is just been incredibly stressful. I also find your site helps to relieve that anxious feeling that never really seems to go away ... thank you!
Also, if anyone is from the Petawawa area there is going to be a treelighting ceremony at Logosland on Dec 9 its being aired live to Kandahar and also Eganville has just raised their "we support our Troops" banner over the bridge (the bridge that all soldiers cross when they head out)
Remember to wear your yellow ribbons and red on Fridays!
thank you!

It will be somewhere for them to go where they will actually feel closer to their loved one. I really think it's a great idea for all concerned!
Petawawa may be small in area but they are big in heart, and seam to be very close & I'm sure they will help with fundraising in donating to the Monument.
What would they have done with out you. You have really made such a difference. You speak for the spouses left behind. You know what they want, and help them go after it!
Someone will have big shoes to fill when you really do retire.
I'll be anxious to check your site & follow up this project.

When one of our own goes through hard times we often make "comfort blankets", where everyone pitches in and knits or crochets a square and someone volunteers to organize the effort and put the squares together in a blanket. It is our hope that wearing or snuggling under this blanket will help someone know that so many people care and will take just a little bit of the edge off those overwhelming feelings at times when life has to go on no matter how bad you feel.

Does such a thing exist in our military spouse community? If so, I would be proud to post this information on my knitting blog (URL above) and to participate in knitting squares. If such a thing does not exist but people are interested in starting something, please contact me as I believe in this type of caring effort and can't find anything anywhere about it other than the knitted mini red sweaters a knit blogger has strung around her home as a remembrance for American military members in Iraq.

Comments:Hi

Love the page, great to read what the other wives are feeling. I am so proud of our men over seas, and I pray they will return home safe and sound to their families.

I lived in Petawawa 3 years ago with my husband, we have been married 6 years now, when we started seeing each other he bought me the book Hurry Up and Wait. I read it and enjoyed every minute of it, and as time went on I understood it fully. I have enjoyed every moment this lifestyle has offered me, there really is no life like it. My daughter has enjoyed it as well.

I miss Petawawa, never thought I would say that but I do miss the closeness of the community, the people and the love and respect our men get from the area.

Our men are doing a job that is not easy and as a country, community, and neighbours we should be proud. I know I am and I thank god everyday for letting me be a part of the military community. I am proud to wear the badge of a military man, I have never been more proud of him and all of the men who serve our country. They do a job that is thankless by most, who do not understand why, but we do and that is all that really count.

If you had red braclets-the silicone ones they sell for every charity there is- you could sell them or give them away and people could wear that on Friday, or any other day they want. If you had them, I'd be happy to sell/give them out. The money could be used for military families in need or whatever you think is best. You could even buy new equipment if you sold enough. Comments:Hi Dianne, I just finished reading your book My Love My Life. Thank you for your time and your dedication that it must have taken to not only write the book but also to do all the research. I really wish I had know about this web site when I was involved in the military.

A little back ground. Both my parents were in the military in the early 50's - 60's. Mom had to get out when she got pregnant with my sister. I joined the military myself in the early 80's. I married a military man and took my release to stay in Ottawa and have a family instead of taking a posting. My husband took his release in the late 90's and joined the Air Reserve in Edmonton. He waiting all that time and then went overseas on a UN deployment. We have been out and away from the military for a few years now and I really miss the people and the like mindedness that the military life offers.

To the guy's in Afganistan my prayers and thoughts are always with you and I watch the news with my breath held hoping I don't hear anything but longing to be catch up on what your doing. My admiration goes to the spouses of today who have to support their military spouse.

The stories we could all tell, but you had the courage to write some of them down.

If I could give one piece of my success story (still happily married after 24 years, five postings, three boys, one UN Bosnia tour, a number of civilian jobs, and still working toward total retirement) it would be to always have a positive attitude and call each other at least twice a day just because. The phone is a powerful tool, when I hear his voice my heart still skips a beat. He could be next door or half way around the world and I know he thinks of me when he picks up the phone to call.

Good luck on your next endeavour and I'll keep going back to your web site for updates. Thank you

Comments:I ready your book about a month ago, in preparation for my husband's departure to Kandahar. I found that it was very helpful material, knowing that there were and would be other people in the same situation as me. My husband (we have only been married since November) left on February 10, 2006 and it has been a week. It was really tough on Friday, but I had a lot of family and friends to support me there and during the weekend. It was even more of a difficult time as my birthday was on Monday and Valentines was on Tuesday. But things are better now; I have made it through the first week. Only 10 more to go till he comes home for his HLTA. I am very proud of the man he is and of what he is doing, and I pray everyday that he is safe and comes home safely to me.

Comments:Hi Diane,
I saw you in Debert when you were there and was very impressed with your words then and with your books. You were there just after "Hurry up and Wait" was published. I have been a military wife for 28 years now(still counting) and have seen many changes. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks for opening the eyes of others who might think we have it made!

Comments:I was just taking a look at your web site and I must say I am impressed. I am a military wife, I live in Petawawa and just found out that my husband will be going to Afganistan in Aug. Both my husband and I have never experienced a tour so I think this site will being me some comfort. I am going to read about women who have gone through the same emotional rollercoster I will be going through for the next year and a bit. They with training and deployment my husband will be gone from home for close to a year and a half. So as I have read in you book, I will keep the home fires burning.

Comments:Hi Dianne,
I just read your "Covering Your Ass" story and I thought it was very "to the point". You have such a great way to express things the way all the wives would like to at times. I know I hate it when the media coverage seems to make stories grow out of proportion, as if we have enough to worry about while our spouses are away. The sensationalism of bringing up how many casualties could result from the deployments only tends to make our nightmares worse. Thank you for trying to get that point across for us.

Comments:I just heard about your website from a very close friend of mine today while talking about my husbands upcoming Nato tour. I really feel that it will help me when times get tough, and I need somewhere to turn. I have a great support system with friends and family, but sometimes you need to be on your own. I think what you're doing here is wonderful. Keep up the good work!
