| Name: | Neil Mckie | Subject: | Comments: | I was a walking example of why people should train hard for a half marathon...My dog could have ran a better race. I have done the mansfield 4 times now and have gone from 1:39 to 2:31 I didnt train at all this year and the course made me pay, at 10 mile my lungs wanted it but the legs didnt, but I with some cracking support from other (fitter) runners I cracked on and finished! Well done to all runners who dug in on a course that was basically one 'BERRY' BIG HILL (shocking!!!)
I'll be back next year stronger and fitter aiming for the 1:30's GET READY..... |
| Name: | Lee Wilson | Subject: | Comments: | Whats all them hills about? Mad course you will lose alot of runners on that course!
the cars on the roads and things???? it won't belong before someone gets hit and the claim comes in??? On a hot day you will have many dropping. the last hill will be re-named - killer Avenue Wils & HILL OFF |
| Name: | Jonathan Winstanley | Subject: | Comments: | Great day! the course was a real challenge and everyone got a pb because no one had ever run it before!
On the down side some of the roads were not well marshalled and the drivers seemed confused as to who's right of way it was. Having said that I will be on the start line again next year! |
| Name: | Dawn Olver | Subject: | Comments: | My first marathon and I really enjoyed it! Fantastic atmosphere and well organised. Thanks to all those people cheering you on it really does make a difference. |
| Name: | Pete O Neil | Subject: | Comments: | Thanks for a superb day and whoever was in that big clown outfit, i take my hat off to you beacuse you were flying which isn't easy in all that gear and the time you ran was remarkable.Iv'e just read one of the earlier reports and i think he was raising money for Parkinson's which is such a worthwhile cause
Thanks for the memories whoever you were you made my day!!!!!!!!! |
| Name: | ian | Subject: | Comments: | well organised day...but a very difficult course..the hills at the finish are a killer...on a hot day as in previous years it would be very very hard...
The better runners would no doubt train harder...but i think you would "lose" some of the lesser ones.. Only being constructive and enjoyed the day...Thanx |
| Name: | Nick and William Pearce | Subject: | Comments: | Excellent fun run (we were two running in Norwich football shirts).
Very well organised and friendly atmosphere. Appreciated running on closed roads. Did half marathon about 20 years ago from Titchfield Park, enjoyed it then. Now have son aged 7 looking for fun runs for him. Hope to do it again next year. Thanks again |
| Name: | Aaron Hill | Subject: | Comments: | What a race!! It was my first half marathon and definetely not my last - will be back again next year and i'd like to just say thankyou to all the spectators that went out to aupport the runners as they were much appreciated by all of us.
I'd like to ask for the same course next year as it was just very challenging and testing but yet not to hard. Cheers looking forward to next year and I can't wait. |
| Name: | Stuart Green | Subject: | Comments: | Great event, despite the rain! This was my first half marathon, but definitely not my last. Thanks to Steve and his team for organising and marshalling this years event - see you next year! |
| Name: | Paul Draycott | Subject: | Comments: | Very tough course, I much prefered the previous course through Pleasley. Great if you want a challenging run, but to record anywhere near a PB is impossible on this course.
Think it's time to have chip timing, and the drinks station after the finish was too far away !! - sorry just whinging :) Glad the rain just about held off, the supporters and other competitors didn't seem to mind the odd shower ! Think the organisers need to rethink the course again next year - just too many challenging hills ... See you next year ! |
| Name: | Nick Burnside | Subject: | Comments: | Great course today!
It`s been 19 years since I last ran an half marathon, that was the days of the Titchfield Park finish. I`m looking forward to next years race already! |
| Name: | Cheryl | Subject: | Comments: | This years course much tougher than last years,
Enjoyed the run, will do more hill training for next years run. Very well organised and the drink was very welcome in the Goody Bag!!! |
| Name: | Andy Rea | Subject: | Comments: | My third time of running didn't run last year. Found new course pretty tough forgot to read course info where it said challenging! Race was well organised as before and i enjoyed it even though i was knackered! hope to be back next year with more training under my belt. |
| Name: | Paul Keeling | Subject: | Comments: | My first ever half marathon. It was challenging, hilly and hard but the crowds were great and even the rain wasn't so bad.
Great goodie bag, especially the lager!!! Can't wait for next year to better my time. |
| Name: | Phil Mitchell | Subject: | Comments: | First time I have done a half marathon - and the aim was just to get round - which I did.
The course is very hilly - but the support and atmosphere throughout the whole event was magnificent 12 Months for more training and a chance to improve on my time! |
| Name: | Rob Fletcher | Subject: | Comments: | Looking forward to this and pleased to see return to some of the original course the last three hills in last three miles used to make it interesting. Think this will by my 16th time.
Quite like the t shirts, when i get too many they make good presents to visitors children. While I like the Clowne course i always slip the "picture" back in the box. It always used to be very hot but perhaps not so this year. |
| Name: | Dave Lisgo | Subject: | Comments: | Only 4 days to go before race day is here.
Is everyone fit and ready to run? What are your exspectations for race day? With a new race HQ based at Berry Hill Park and new circular route the race committee are just as anxious but we are confident of another good day. Please use this guestbook to post some of your views and experiences. There are several good vantage points for spectators to watch the race at more than one point. My tip would be to stand at the top of Lindhurst only 600m from the start. Then walk down Lindhurst and pick runners up as they come off MARR road at about just after 10 miles . Once your own special runner has come by then walk back towards Lindhurst and runners will be there again. Then it's only a short walk back to the finish while runners run last 2 miles around Chatsworth Drive. Alternatively watch the start then bike or drive down to Carr Bank Park where there will be some music around the sponge station in the park. This should have you cheering on the runners at 7 miles. |
| Name: | Carl Emery | Subject: | Comments: | It is my home town half marathon and i will be running in fancy dress to raise money for the Parkinson's Disease Society, acondition close to my heart has my dad has suffered with the condition for 8 years. I will be wearing full fancy dress so give me a shout!!!. Last year i was the one in the big woman outfit and fish nets so you can just imagine what this year will be like.
Cheers Good Luck everyone |
| Name: | Steve Shatwell | Subject: | Comments: | Hi Alan, regarding mementoes, we ask runners every year in our goody bag questionnaire whether they want a different/additional memento to the T-shirt and every year the vast majority say "no". Furthermore, almost 100% say they would not be prepared to pay any more for a better quality souvenir. Out of curiosity how much do Wilmslow charge? |
| Name: | Adam Hall | Subject: | Comments: | Kevin,
Hills arent good!!! |
| Name: | Alan Lacey | Subject: | Comments: | I understand the reason for the change of venue now - and although this new route seems tougher I am looking forward to the challenge and have entered the race.
I still suggest changing from a t-shirt to an alternative momento though! Good luck all entrants this year - let's hope for a cool overcast day and maybe light drizzle to keep things cool! |
| Name: | stacey hill | Subject: | Comments: | this is my second run and wouldlike to know if this will validate my entry for the one up and comeing on the 1st of july?.if not could you e-mail to let me know what i have to do thanx..S.Hill. |
| Name: | Kevin Clarke | Subject: | Comments: | Just a note to say that the new course is brilliant and a welcome change. 10 good hills and the finish on the day should be great.
Thanks |
| Name: | kerry smith | Subject: | Comments: | my partner and myself would like to enter this years race, but im unable to pprint the application form off. what should i do? |
| Name: | Alan Lacey | Subject: | Comments: | Disappointed to see a change of venue and change of route planned for 2007.
I will look at the route (when it is available!) before I commit to doing this one. Please, please, please no t-shirts this year (I got a fantastic 3d etched glass momento AND a t-shirt at Wilmslow half marathon in March - please try to be more original !) |
| Name: | chris bytheway | Subject: | Comments: | this was my first half marathon which i really enjoyed, the course was very good and thankfully not to many hills, i am looking forward to 2007,
more toilets are definatly needed at the start, as i nearly miss the start waiting for the loo. the goodie bag was nice too, and the support around the course was superb. |
| Name: | kev Lincoln | Subject: | Comments: | A great day, well organised. The goody bag was appreciated but what makes a race different is an usual momento (Snake Lane Mug, Clowne painting etc.)Mansfield has a good manufacturing base, how about something unique.
Only negative point, there were insufficient toilets. Anyone who knows about running is aware the old adrenelin rush happens to all in the last half an hour before the start, the queues were a little ridiculous. |
| Name: | Carol Parsons | Subject: | Comments: | Excellent event. It is well oragnised and a fairly traffic free, interesting course. Great ranges of prizes, spot prizes and goody bag. Refreshments, changing and baggage area. Everything you could want from a race and more! |
| Name: | vivienne walker | Subject: | Comments: | 2nd time i have run the race, the atmosphere was brilliant, it was very well organised, great course, with plenty of water stations. I would recommend it to any one. Thanks to all those who organised the event/ |
| Name: | Paul Samuel-Camps | Subject: | Comments: | Great race sunday, was my first half-marathon and i am 17. Finished in 2 hours 3 minutes 14 seconds, i will be doing the race again next year :) great crowd and marshalls.

| Name: | Alan Lacey | Subject: | Comments: | This will be my 5th consecutive Mansfield Half Marathon - coming back to my home town to run !
I've just run Blackpool Marathon on 4th June & Edinburgh Marathon on 11th June so I'm looking forward to a shorter run. The course is testing - with a few hilly sections - but I got my PB here in 2004 and it will always be a favourite. What I would ask is a change from the cotton t-shirts (no runner should run in cotton these days!) .... and as a more experienced runned I have too many cotton T-Shirts ! A decent medal or memento would be better ! See you all in July ! |
| Name: | Elaine Mayfield | Subject: | Comments: | This is my home town half marathon and have to say its one of the best for organisation and facilities, and have just heard there will be possibly 10 masseurs available at the leisure centre after the race. There will be a small charge but well worth it relieve those aches after your race. Have a good one. See you on the day, good luck |
| Name: | Dave Lisgo | Subject: | Comments: | As race organisors it is great to read all the comments on the Mansfield Half. Any more?
How does Mansfield compare with other races? How do you find the course - too easy??? Experienced runner or fun runner use this forum to share your views Over 500 runners have signed up for this years race - on target for largest field in recent years. |
| Name: | pal155 | Subject: | Comments: | ran this last year, great race, well supported, recomended!
entering again. well done well organised! |
| Name: | Martin Wright | Subject: | Comments: | Did the first ten or so events starting in 1981. Would love to do it again this year but the old knees will not permit.
Good luck to all who are doing the 25th. |
| Name: | Linda Ward | Subject: | Comments: | Just entered for this year(ARGH!)!!!! I did it last year for the first time and loved it! The event is really well organised and the marshalls were great - very encouraging. Lets hope this year is just as good, but a bit faster for me please!! |
| Name: | Kevin Wright | Subject: | Comments: | I have just printed off the entry form. This will be my first half marathon. Looking forward to it & feeling aprehensive in equal measures. Found the training programme link very interesting, will give it a go! |
| Name: | Steve Shatwell | Subject: | Comments: | That should be no problem, Steve. We will just need to find a good printer that can reprint the 10,000 entry forms we've had done! Alternatively we have a very keenly contested Fun Run you can take part in! |
| Name: | Stavross | Subject: | Comments: | I am really struggling with my running at the moment and was wondering, if it's not too much trouble, could the race organisers make it a 5K this year, sorry to be a pain but it would really help, Thanks !!!!!! |

| Name: | Charles Howard | Subject: | Comments: | A great day out, thanks a lot. |
| Name: | Jeff - AKA Mr "Happy" | Subject: | Comments: | Another Blackpool survivor! I'm really looking forward to this one. I know the course is undulating (HILLY!) but after months of training perhaps some payback for the fat boy with a PB. I'm delighted that there will be sponges and would like the sun to shine very weakly and only warm up when we've all finished!
I'll be wearing the logo "Blackpool Half Marathon survivor" See www.cassapi.com/survivor.htm |
| Name: | Barry Wilkinson | Subject: | Comments: | I too did the Blackpool half, and have been toying with the idea of running this one too.
But.....decided to do it, wanted to do 2 hours in Blackpool but the heat was too strong. Only started running a couple of months ago - got the bug. So here I am 3rd half in 3 months. Bring it on! p.s. Dont forget the water ! |
| Name: | mick sherriff | Subject: | Comments: | Hello to one and all. This will be my 5th half marathon this year, just 2 weeks after running in the blackpool half marathon.Im really looking forward to this run.Try and spot me with my "mick the mackum" t-shirt while im running!! |
| Name: | Chris Moreton | Subject: | Comments: | Looking forward to 3rd July's event - heard many good reports, although this'll be my first one!
Travelling up from Suffolk - so I need to get used to hills again! Nice change and better value than the Great North (which the Mansfield Half is replacing in my diary this year) - an event that is becoming increasingly oversubscribed and pricey. Right - back to the training! |
| Name: | Amy | Subject: | Comments: | Am doing half marathon this year, first one so bit nervous! Is there anybody that would like a training buddy? This would very motivational. Please get in touch if you are doing half marathon this year and would like a running partner! |
