I just read your tutorial on using the Hemming foot. Thank you so much for that. I have that foot with the sewing machine my mother in law gave my daughter when she passed away and I had no idea what it was. I figured it would roll the fabric some way, but I didn't know what it was for. I can't wait to try it now. This will be perfect for making pockets on bags too (I rarely hem, I mostly make bags and quilts). I'm enjoying some of you other tutorials too. I know lots of people having babies soon, so I know what I"m going to be making some of them.

Looking for a simple pattern for a sleep sack for my newest granddaughter - expected within the next few weeks!
I like your sleep sack pattern, but I was wondering if you ever do any variations to the basic pattern, such as: snaps at the shoulders for adjustments as baby grows, and a zipper across the bottom??? I realize that this might make the sleep sack harder to put on and off, but I've seen them with zippers along the bottom and am intrigued...

Thank you so much for all that you offer! I began researching slings after my son was born in May. I was so bummed at the prices, it just wasn't in our budget. A Bradley friend of mine was given one of your ring slings and I knew that's what I was looking for. She gave me the web site and I began researching again. I made my first sling using a modified gathered shoulder, which was quite uncomfortable. A few weeks later I purchased a pair of Nylon rings from Slingrings.com and changed to the pleated shoulder. WOW what a difference!

I want to Thank You. I really appreciate that you put the weight in your fabric section. I am an engineer, and I like numbers. I had a plaid fabric around that I was thinking of using. I had my doubts about it's weight. I measured it at 3oz weight. Then I knew that I had to double it. It was 60" wide, so that was no problem and took care of the two-aides issue. I also appreciate the pleating instructions. I would have pleated it regardless, since it is a plaid that begs to be pleated. But, you saved me a couple of hours of fiddle-fartng with different sized pleats.

I don't know how to say thank you.
When I was pregnant with my first baby I discover your site with slings.
I was fascinated by your sling and then I made my first one. It was just test sling made out of my old sheet. My son was happy and I decided to make better one.
Whenever I went outside I took my sling. People were giving me strange look.
Some of them stopped me on streets asking about it.
Allot of them decided to order one from net. And I was there to instruct them how to put their baby in :)
Then I was pregnant with second baby boy.
My first boy was heawy and he wanted to be in sling all the time till the end of my pregnancy. After that my new baby boy replaced my oldest son.
When my second son grew a friend of mine asked if she could buy my sling for her baby. I give it as a gift.
It was 5 years since I made my first sling. Today I made my third. It is present for my sister in law and her baby boy that she is expecting.

My 6 month old has outgrown her sleepsacks and I was upset at the price of new ones, so I searched for Free Pattern for Sleep Sack and I found your link.

I'm so impressed with your site I'll be sharing it with everyone I know! Thank you for this site and I love your views on the carseat covers and on breastfeeding!!! My second daughter hates to be covered when she feeds so I feel like I have to hide and I shouldn't feel that way...so I just lay a cloth around her head but I don't put it over her face. Anyone who gets a peak shouldn't be looking that close in the first place. :-)

Hi, Cheryl! If you go to the baby crafts page and scroll down, you'll find the reason I don't have a pattern for car seat covers -- to whit, car seats belong in the car, and use outside the car increases risk to the baby in several ways.

Just wanted to let you know I've made several of your fabric diaper cases for myself and friend's baby showers, it's a wonderful pattern! However,I have made a few changes that have really worked well for me and I thought you might be interested in!

1) I use only 1 layer of fabric instead of having a liner and increased the size of the pattern by a half inch all around.
2) I coat the fabric on both sides in Iron on Vinyl (available at JoAnne's)to make it waterproof.
3)If you cut out the pattern with the fabric laid out long ways there is enough left over to add a carry strap as well as an inner and outer pocket (I put a Velcro closure on this outside pocket)which are wonderful for holding a small toy to entertain baby or diaper cream etc.
4) I am searching for a way to add a non bulky changing mat but haven't quite gotten it yet.

Thanks again for posting your pattern, it has been a huge help in getting ready for our first baby!

I hope to make seat covers for a restaurant highchair and a grocery store cart for my two granddaughters. The fun part is that my one daughter wants to learn how to make her own. The other fun part is picking out fabric, of course.

I probably have enough sewing skill to figure out how to make these covers myself, but it is much easier to find it already thought through. Thank you for sharing your expertise. I was determined to master the narrow hem foot. And knew there had to be a tutorial out in webland somewhere. Yours help much, in all my years of sewing I didn't know about the tape trick and starting out sewing on top of tiny folds, then inserting the edge into the scroll. whew! what a difference. I think I am finding that some spray starch on the edge helps too.

I have searched many cites to find out how to make a rolled hem, and then I came across your instructions. This is the very best tutorial I have seen. I have been sewing since I was a young child (my grandmother sat me down at 6 years old and said it was time to learn! We made a reversible poodle skirt.) However, I have never made a rolled hem. Your tips on the sizes of feet you can purchase, your pictures on how NOT to do the hem (which is exactly how my hems were turning out) and the ease of instruction have helped me turn out a beautiful hem. What was a real plus is that your pictures helped greatly because I have the same machine. You are a genius at making things simple! No more ironing, marking, pinning! My kids hate that I correct them daily! I can't stand it when my husband says "punkin". (he's not talking about a cute baby but an actual pumpkin) I have heard other children say "gots ta" a lot. It seems that an ignorant way of speaking is very trendy these days. I'm not neurotic about any of this. I really agree with you that bad grammar (spoken or written) can lead people to believe that you are not smart. So, even if you aren't very smart but you write and talk normally then you are already ahead of the game! Wow, that felt good! I needed that......

I really enjoyed reading the grammar section, and all of the additional comments by other readers. I love grammar, and appreciate those people who understand the importance of adhering to the rules. They are there for a reason. I enjoyed my grammar class at California State University Los Angeles. As an older student, I was absolutely horrified that most of the students didn't have a clue regarding grammar rules. There are lots of grammar sites online that offer great tips, exercises, and easy explanations. What really disturbed me more than anything was my fellow English major friends planning to be teachers who couldn't care less about learning and mastering grammar rules. As far as they are concerned, learning grammar is just a waste of time. I tend to cringe when they send their poorly written e-mails. I also study Italian and French, which means I am constantly learning grammar in all three languages (English, Italian, and French).

Thank you for dedicating a section to grammar on your site. Too many people treat it as an annoyance. Sadly, they don't realize the importance of learning and mastering grammar rules.

Love your site. As a BFing mom who is creative crafty and just a little open minded, it was wonderful to come across your page months ago when I was pregnant looking for some ideas for sewing patterns. Since then I have been back many times to get inspiration and the like. I sometimes just need reinforcement that my crazy idea for my little Kitty can be (and evidently, HAS BEEN) done!

It's folks like you that keep me going with the nursing. I can't believe the misinformation out there about it, the generational opinions. I don't have a problem with folks who don't but I do feel like they are missing out on something really great.

You probably have older children now, judging from the posting dates, but your little projects of convenience are still very valuable. I look forward to finding other great tips.

I have been checking out your site for almost 4 years now. I was a newbie to babywearing. When my daughter was born, I couldn't afford to purchase a sling so I decided to make my own. I came to your site, & have been coming back ever since. My favorite is the no sew ring sling.I didn't go anywhere without it. it was small enough to fit in the diaper bag when not in use.My husband was also able to use it & he is not a small guy.I just used a longer piece of fabric so we could both use it. When i went back to work my Mom would bring the sling with my Daughter to my work so I could nurse her on my breaks & lunches. It made nursing discreet while in public places. as she got older she liked the satin on her blanket, I bought some blanket binding & sewed it to the tail side. Then all I had to bring was the sling and could leave the blanket at home. I carried my daughter till just a few months ago. I have to say i miss it. Thank you so much for your information, I will continue to inform my friends about your site since it was so helpful to my family!!!

I made a quick-n-dirty version by stapling the pieces to a cereal box, putting a tape loop on the back, and clipping them to a photo mobile I'd had lying around.
