Hi Steve,
We have talked before. I have the map that my Dad colored. There are 5 circles on that map that apparently refers to some narration. Do you happen to have that narration, or can find it somewhere?
I have a pretty good camera. Could I add the map to your webpage?

I have a question my grandfather served in the 1260th combat engineering battalion and served in the european theatre in ww2. Sadly, he recently died. I dont know what larger unit the 1260th was part of. I don't know if you can somehow help me. He did serve in the battle of the Buldge. Any possible help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the booklet on the bridge. At one of our reunions some active engineers came and put on a demonstration. They told us the the Hodges Bridge still holds the record for the longest ever built. It' good to make contact with some of our colleagues. Thanks for the work on the web site.

I have been in the process of documenting my father's time in the service and have been fortunate to talk with some gentlemen from the same battalion. My Dad was a PFC in the 148th. He worked as a stores clerk during the war per his discharge papers. He often talked about the bridge and had a picture of it. Are their many of the 148th still with us? Dad passed 2 May 1982 one week before his 70th birthday.

Thank you for all you have done.

Your website with the tribute to the Hodges Bridge is wonderful. My late father, Donald Hein, was in the 207 combat engineers and he had the same booklet as in your website. Working on that bridge was the one thing he loved to tell me about his war experiences. Recently I discovered some family photos with many pictures of the Hodges Bridge, including one my dad took of the first German prisoners to cross the bridge in an American transport truck. Anyone who was in the 207th or knows someone who was please feel free to contact me. I have photos I'd like to share.

An interesting web page and history of the Hodges Bridge in Bad Godesberg, Germany.

I am the spokesman of the US Embassy offices left in Bonn, and find it interesting that groups in the towns on both sides of the river have made an effort to preserve the history of the bridge.

On May 13, there will be a ceremony opening the display of a historical tablet on each side of the Rhine to remember the bridge.

Very nice website. I am new to genealogy but would be very interested to find out more about your Alexander Mathews/Mathes and any of his siblings. I have been researching my husband's Mathews family and have gotten back six generations to Isaiah Mathews, b. 1796, d. 1858 & Sarah ??? Mathews, b. 1797, d. 1865; who were the parents of Isaac Mathews, b. 1827 who married Margaret Campbell, b. 1834, of Meadow Gap, Springfield Twsp, Huntingdon, PA and had children: Sarah, Lucinda, Isaiah, Mary, Jeanatta, Eliza J., Elizabeth, Samuel R., Catherine, Thomas B. & Charles W. This family is of Irish decent and my husband's Great Aunt Agnes Agalia Mathews said she was told by her brother Gerald prior to his death that either dad or grand-dad had come over from Ireland. Unfortunately, that's as much as we have to date... the search continues.

Thanks for the great site on the 148th. My grandfather was in the 148th, company C. He is listed on the original personnel form as Benjamin Ginder from Rising Sun, Maryland. His name is actually Benjamin Givler. He was from the Coatesville, PA area. He passed away in 1967, his wife(my grandmother) is still with us. Anyone, with any good stories or rememberances of him during the war, I would love to get an email from you and pass along to my Grandmother. She has been really thinking of him lately and I would love to give her a good smile.
Thanks So Much!

I need any info on Benjamin Jennings who was born somewhere in Marylad ca 1758. He lived in what is Somerset Co., PA today and served in the Revolutionary War. His father's name was Benjamin also. The younger Benjamin is buried in PA. but elder Benjamin is believed to have returned to Maryland where he died. Another version has him dying in Ohio Co., West Virginia. Problem is boundries then and now are different. One lead has elder Benj. being a Quaker. The elder Benj. was in the Turkeyfoot region of Somerset Co. in 1768 according to area survey of site by Capt. Steele to the Penn family.
Any information or help is appreciated.

Thanks

I was very interested to come upon your site. My father was a member of the 148th Combat Engineers 1943-45. He passed away on July 15th, and we are finding photos and other personal items from his years in the service, including photos of the Hodges Bridge. If you would be interested, I will try to scan them and transmit them to you. For reasons unknown, his name doesn't appear on the roster posted at your web site. He and a number of others from the unit had been getting together for a reunion in Washington, PA each year for the last 12-15 years. I hope to be able to find his mailing list.
