I'm appauled at the amount of money we've had to spend. Thinking of the countless millions of dollars the government pour into aboriginal housing etc, that just gets trashed anyway... I pay my taxes, then the government still wants more to keep our relationship together... I think it's all a little ummm what shall we say - Well it sounds like the Government here really don't care for their own!!!!
It's in reality going to be cheaper and better for our relationship if I flee my birth country and return to my husbands.... the U.S. are just a little more welcoming... I think it's disgusting now I sit down and think of our population here in australia and then realize the population in the U.S.A. well Australia can afford to invite a few more immigrants in especially those who prove they are ligitimate applicants... We should certainly not be charged a fee for falling in love.. Isn't this in essence taking away our freedom??? |

Being in a long distance relationship myself, your story gave me hope and helped me realize be apart is something that you have to deal with one day at a time. I see it as just a matter of time until I am back with the one I love, and just have to live one day at a time until we are back together. He's been gone for 2 months now and it's been truly hell, though i'm looking forward to going down there in december, but 3 months seem so long too wait. Though we chat once a week and talk on the phone once week, it doesn't seem enough and I miss him soo much. Though I do believe this can work out if we both want it too, and trust me, we want to spend the rest of our lives together, though it's hard. Some days aren't so bad but some days I could just cry all day. Though i'm know i'm a strong person and i'll pull through this. I'm glad to know that I ain't the only one going through all this pain. It shows me that my feelings, fears and hopes are normal and that we CAN survive this if we stay committed and maintain hope. I know the pain you are experiencing, or have experienced in the past. My boyfriend and I were together for a year when he decided to study abroad in Perth, AUS. for 6 months. Unfortunately, the 6 months turned into a year because he decided to see the rest of the world. He is somewhere in Europe right now and I am in Florida. I won't see him until Christmas this year. He emails me about twice a week and calls about twice a month. I have good days and bad days, but I try my best to stay busy. Today was one of those bad days when I really missed him.....I needed to hear your testimony. It was so inspirational. i suppose i am writing words for those of you who are presently doing time in a long distance relationship. i'm from new zealand and my boyfriend is from the US. we met in melbourne while he was touring during 2000. i was in town catching up with a girlfriend, who was actually the person who introduced us. it was a very humbling experience. in less than a week, we were crazy about each other, i ended up flying around australia with him for the last few wks of his australian tour- we knew it would have to end. Regarding farewells, i am feeling your pain! We were seperated for 4 mnths before i flew to the US to live with him for 3 mnths. there was another airport scene in NYC where we seperated again for another 4 mnths (it was the pits)- it didn't get easier, but in oct 2001 he moved to new zealand to be with me and i think i'm one of the luckiest girls in the world. the secret to LDR is believing in love and trying to stay optimistic and high with it, also be honest with your feelings and how you express yourself. stay healthy because it will keep your mind clear and believe me, you need that most of all. thank you for sharing your story. as you can see, many people are benefiting from it :) |

We have seen each other 3 times now and our last time together we spend 3 months side by side. We met eachother in Tucson, AZ--he was there for work, I was visiting friends. I asked him for his email address the night I met him, emailed him when I got back to Chicago. I was suppose to go visit him on the first of May but my purse was stollen at the airport and I am very frustrated by this (my non refundable tickets were in it--oh sucks for me that does!). He told me he thinks I'm worth the wait but it is driving me nuts personally. (faint smile) So when I read the part in Gayle's story where she said that life has a habit of throwing obsticals in our path--that so very hit home. It was like someone somewhere else could identify with my frustration because they had felt it befor as well. Sort of a comforting feeling when you find out your not alone and other people can identify with what you feel or have felt. (smiling at you again) My friend I met online is so very sweet and so nice sometimes I just get scared that I'm more trouble than I'm worth to him--(faint giggle). He has been there for about 7 months.. he went back a month after our son, Daniel, was born. I cried every night, missing him..whenever i look at Daniel, i felt such pain inside my heart. life has been so difficult for me and my husband.. we tried to keep in each other strong, calling each other as frequent as financially possible..it is very expensive nowadays, we still have our bills to clear..we tried to keep the bond between Daniel and Bobby by letting him talk with his daddy and kissing his daddy's picture goodnight every night. | Comments: | It's been ages since I updated our website and although I keep meaning to do it, I never have time. So, I thought this might be a way to keep people updated on "Our Story" until I get around to adding to the site. Since I wrote the last page LOTS of things have happened! On March 5th 2000, in a pretty park, surrounded by family and friends we GOT MARRIED!! And it's wonderful! Then shortly after that, I sold my house and Rick and I bought a home of our own. We are currently renovating it and having a lot of fun doing it. We both have great jobs, the kids adore their stepfather and although we are ALWAYS very busy, life together is more than we ever dreamed it could be. It's almost 5 years since we met online and over 3 years since Rick moved to Australia.....and we are more in love than ever! My mother is sick and I am leaving my boyfried {well we are engaged} of 3 years to go be with her. I am not sure how long I will be away from him and that kills me and him. He will be in Florida and myself will be in West Virginia. Everybody says long distance relationships don't work. The other problem is that people look at me because I am young, I am 18 and he is 22. I want people to understand that just because we are young does not mean that we do not love eachother. We have already been through many problems and we have made it through all of them. I love him so much and I do not want anything to come between us. Is there anything you can suggest we try to help us while we are apart? Something or anything that will make us feel better? We met almost 6 months ago on a yahoo.com club that he started up. We emailed, talked online and on the phone, sent photos of each other as well. He took a chance and drove 8 hours on a cold February day to see me in Canada. It was love at first sight!! Like you two, we talked about everything and have so much in common. The longest we have been apart is a month. I just couldn't imagine 1 year!! I have to hand it to you. What an inspiration!! I am finishing up school here and in October I plan to move down to Chicago and find employment. More headaches await though, with work visas and citizenship issues. But he's worth it. When I tell people how we met some cringe at the fact that we met on the internet. I don't think anything is wrong with that. We met & fell in love and we are planning a future together. Love is wonderful!!! |

| Comments: | I just quickly wanted to tell you of a similar relationship. I met this guy in July of 1997. We met on IRC and we chatted a lot. We lost contact on and off, but finally we decided not to let it happen again. Soon we talked on the phone every night, and when we didnt, you can imagine some of the feelings I had. One big difference in our story was that he lived in the country. However, he lived in New York and I lived in California. We had always joked around about meeting, but finally in November of '00 the chance to meet. We did, and he was just as great as ever. I also spent ten days with him. Then, in April of '01 I was able to see him again. Now, May '01 I am not exactly sure when I am going to get to see him again. I plan to move out there for college, but I just hate not being with him. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that your story is really inspriring, for us that is. I'm glad I came across it, even if the page was two years old. |
