FYI. My father shipped out of California on the USS Wharton , formerly
The Southern Cross. He was on the Island of Santos when the Coolidge
Hit the mine that sunk her. My father was the H&S Co. supply Sargent
At the parts warehouse.
Apparently, Doyle Bone was a road builder on the island. When he needed a part, he went see my father. One day Doyle invited my dad and
some of the other men in his outfit to a beer party. My dad brought the
Ice!! They were friends form then on. Great story!!!

he was the supply Sargent for the parts ware house on santos.
It was a very emotional moment for him, when he saw the photo.
