Was at Feldberg 73-74, worked for Capt Conley (Major Rex was commander). Slick the camp wonder dog was special-introduced himself to newcomers with his own unique greeting-dry humping your leg!
Left Feldberg on a bootstrap program to go to college. Finished a PhD at MIT & served 4 yrs as an officer at WPAFB. Now working at GE Aviation as an Executive for Advanced Engine Systems Technology in Cincinnati, OH (Cannot leave my military roots). Been back twice to the hill at Feldberg since I left. Even ate a meal at those German joints at the enterance. Skipped those on my two stripe income in the 70s!

I lost all of my photos and negatives in a fire in the late 80's. Also if Reggie Prosper reads this please email me percival37co@yahoo.com...you were my best friend there and I miss you...Does anyone know what happened to Paine, Chenault or Leddon? By the way I was in Autovon maintenance and Ray if you are still alive I hope you are enjoying your retirement.

Arrived Nov. 1st 1989 the day after what I hear was a great Halloween party. Lived in Oberreifenberg with my wife for two years and left shortly after the autovon switch was decommissioned and most of the telemetry was moved to Rhein-Main. My wife Lora and I will never forget our "family" while we were there. Watching TV in the bar and celebrating all the holidays, birthdays, and ad-hock parties. tige@tigelane.com

The BEST Air Force assignment swap in the history of the Air Force. I was suppose to go to Grand Forks, ND out of tech school but this kid wanted to be close to home. You want to trade, uh - HELL YEAH. Thanks Charles Hile for that trade. Made some great friends and still keep in touch with a few of them. Enjoyed traveling, skiing, partying, playing softball and going to different tournaments, going to remote sites Kodelberg, Swarzenborn and Stein, site parties, jungle juice in a big trash can (always seeming to YACK after those parties), Saxenhausen, taking newbys through the red light district and the hotels. Anyone wanting contact me, please shoot an e-mail to denusaf@yahoo.com. Thanks for all the memories

I was at Feldberg several times during the early 60's. The only name I remember is Ray Buenatello. I was with the 2057th
Radio Relay Squadron Detachment 1 at Wiesbaden Camp Pieri. I
worked in the maintenance shop above the snack bar on the 3rd
floor. We had standby duty and had to go to the remote sites
at all hours of the night, if they had trouble and couldn't fix the problem. I once had to go to Wasserkuppe at 2:00AM in
the morning, it was about an 80 mile trip from Wiesbaden.
A few months before I left the 2057th was taken over by the
1945 Communications Squadron at Rhein Main and I hated it the
rest of the time. Maj. Fortenberry the 2057th commander was demoted to chief of maintenance and we had an Lt Col O'Conner as commander. I remember having to paint the curb
in the parking lot yellow. That's when I decided the USAF
was not for me, that was fucking shit. I really loved it at
Weisbaden and we all had a very good time. It was just one big party drinking and bringing girls into the billets every
night. After leaving the AF I worked in microwave at General
Electric Co., International Telephone and Telegraph (ITT)
Raytheon Data Systems, and Times Fiber Communications. I was
trained by my boss Robert L. Wallace, MSEE at Raytheon to be
a design engineer which I did for about 5 years. I am now retired and happy not to have to put up with all the kiss ass politics and bull shit that goes on in all organizations
with 3 or more people UGGGGGGHHH

Two of the best years of my life. Motorcycle rides through the mountains; sneaking into castle ruins on Halloween; pool, booze and slot machines in the bar; snow several feet deep; Dungeons and Dragons marathons; spaghetti ice; getting chewed out by they 1st Sgt; delivering the mail (and knowing who the biggest partiers were because their bar tabs came in multiple envelopes!); punch with vodka and Bacardi (and some idiot spiking it with Ouzo!); Christmas with a German family and the Father showing me pics from when he was in the Luftwaffe in WW2; video games in the dayroom; late night phone calls patched through to my girlfriend back home (now my wife); chair dancing; attempting to learn actual dancing from Jerry; Delgafo's pizza; Sachsenhausen; Christmas parties at the Brown's; listening to Funky Cold Medina with Capt Medina and Lt Cole; watching Bucher flip his car and getting out with a goofy grin to say, "that was interesting"; trying not to die while keeping up with Mouse; wheely contest between John (last name?) and Mouse; watching in amazement when Dennis lit his farts; losing a weeks pay playing poker and not really caring since food and board were covered; 4th of July in Holland; meeting a man with the world's longest middle finger; and much, much more. Oh yeah, I did some work too (Orderly Room) but somehow don't remember that quite as well.

Feldberg is like a mythic legend in my mind now. So many decades later, it almost seems like a dream, a whisp of consciousness frozen in time. Did I really live another kind of life in this surreal, beautiful place? I know I did - there are still physical reminders of it in my daily life. But it is also a dream, a fair vision enjoyed in the dawning of life.

I was the Site Superintendent and Superintendent of Maintenance at Feldber from Feruary of 1969 to June of 1973. In reviewing your duty roster I found some errors that you might want to correct.
Under "Other", T/Sgt William Edwards was NCOIC of DSA not in Supply. S/Sgt James (Jim) Griffin was the Materiel Control (Supply) person. SMSgt Richard (Dick) Willingham, now deseased was the Superintendent of Tech Control and DSA.
During my stay there, Harold Amfahr was Commander, Ronald Hinkle was Commander, David Rex was Commander, and we had another Capt that lasted less than 5 months. Richard ( Dick) Bauer was the Site Engineer , he was a 3055 assigned to monitor our Link assessment /Link Performance program that was headed up by MR. Bob Fike of HQ AFCS and was not in the Site Chain of Command. John Gorshak was in Wideband Radio Maintenance, TSgt Gary Price was Assistant NCOIC of DSA, Micheal (Mike) Desjean was in DSA Under Tech Control---Aaron Cathcart,. Under Radio -- Buckles name is Edward, Stukas name was Frank,Thompkins name was Jerry, Benners name is Kenneth (Ken) and he was NCOIC of Radio. Overtons name is Jay, . Under Autovon -- Voights name is Victor, Chauncey Pippens was in DSA. Rountrees name is Richard.
These are a few of the things I see off the top and I will look at all of my old orders to see if I can help add names that were there during our time. Thanks for the neat Site. Chief B

Tech Controller stationed at Feldberg RRL from 87-91. Would have stayed longer, but we decommisioned the TCF and started to run the site remotely from Rhein Main in '91. I still keep in touch with several people who were stationed at Feldberg with me. I'll tell them about this site. Tschuss!

I was at Feldberg between July '76 and Sept '79. I extended my tour twice, for two reasons: 1. I didn't want to go to a MOB unit, and 2. I really liked it there!?!?!?

I was at FEL from 3/74-6/76 and 9/77-9/80. I worked in T/C, and this was my first assignment after tech school. Had a lot of fun times while there (some of which I may have to be reminded of). The hardest part of it all is trying to sort out what happened and with whom during which tour of duty there...sometimes it all runs together. Definitely one of the highlights of my life.

I was stationed at Feldberg from September 1977 until September 1983. It truly was the highlight of my career. I have to agree with some comments I have previously read that there is a "Family" type relationship that evolved with a lot of us who were there. I could not agree more. I'm looking forward to the next reunion in Denver. Hope to see many of you there.

Just returned from spending 88 days in Germany....Camp King is gone, has been leveled and is being rebuilt into a German apt complex...the site is now a relay for AFN the barracks building is gone. The site is unmanned, but the two gates have cameras, only one gate there during my tour, aimed out to look at visitors. Most of the site is surrounded by a solid wall about 15 ft high.
The Sandplacken hotel is still there and very busy. Oberursel has grown, the train tracks have been extended and the autobahn goes past the town. You can get to Feldberg without ever going thru town...

Was stationed here from Fall of '74 to fall of '77 in the radio relay section. It was one of the most memorable times of my life. Met many great people and had good times on and of the site. I'm kinda bummed out that the site is not being used in the capacity it was. I sure wanted to go back someday and check it out.

I was stationed at Feldberg from June 77 until I retired one July, 1982. The first time I ever saw the site was probably in 1965. I was stationed at Obernkirchen from April 63 until June 66. I used to drive evry week to Koeterberg to pick up the 5 16mm movies. I took the old flicks to Wunsdorf. At that time Feldberg was a det of the 2057th RRS, with headquarters at Rothwesten. Feldberg shot to Schwarzenborn, who shot to Rothwestern, on to Koeterberg and then Obernkirchen. OKN shot to Wunsdorf, Celle and Holtum which relayed to Huelseburg and on the Bremerhaven. While I was at OKN, the 2057th was taken over by the 1945th. In '69 I was once again sent to Germany. This time to Pruem in the 2139th. By the time I left in "73 I was once again taken over by the 45th. At least in '77 I went straight to the 45th. In all I spent over 12 years in Germany. Met my wife Ursula in Obernkirchen in '63. We were married 11/11/64. The first day on site in '77 I took the Motorolla man "up the Link" to service the "Non tech radio system" at SBN and KOG. I took over the Mobile Maintenance Team and spent most of my Feldberg tour working the link. Had a great time. Saw the site and the link again in '92 while visiting our daughter, who was stationed at Spangdahlem and fought in the gulf war. Feldberg looked as it does on the homepage. I can't remember if the barracks were still there or not. I do remember some 3rd Reich relics were unearthed near the main gate while I was there. Seeing the pixs with all the snow sure reminded me of coming back from a week TDY on the link and trying to figure out which one of the white blobs was my car. Well, I better sign off for now. I have rambled enough. I will submit some of my pixs soon....vern

Great Site!
I was stationed at Feldberg from Feb,83 to Aug,89. The location was great but most of all I think Feldberg somehow attracted some of the best people in the USAF to come together to work&live. I'm living now in Frankfurt and sometimes ride my moutionbike up to the site to visit the old buildings. keep on working on the site..brdgs..Alex Dombrowski

Great site! I was a tech controller at Feldberg from 11/80 - 11/82. It was a wonderful place to spend 2 years of my life. It's interesting, whenever I tell someone I was in the Air Force, I immediately think of Feldberg and not the other Bases I was stationed. The friendships that we made on that mountain will last forever! WE'RE FAMILY!!!!

This is great, yet another place to re-live the wonder years of Feldberg. I was stationed there from January '81 to January '84 and with VERY FEW exceptions, loved every minute of it. I made life long friends there, an experience I will never forget and will cherish always.

I was stationed at Feldberg '79-'80. I too have fond memories of those two years! You know, there's a page on "My-Family.com" with all kinds of Feldbergians (mostly late 70's, early 80's) and we have a great time re-living our "stay" there. I'll pass this link on to all of them...
This is a great site! When I can I'll try and post some photos as well. You "old-timers", (yeh right, who am I kidding, you guys aren't that much older... :) might get a kick out of seeing the folks who occupied Feldberg about eight years after you were there! Talk to y'all later...
