Romi; Saw you in Lontario at the London Music Club some years back - you knocked me out. Bought your `Steady Rollin' Somethin' and....a little disappointed. Not your fault, but with all respect to Gurf, the production just didn't show how good you are. Saw you again here the second time, and you and the Webber Bros. did it to me again, despite the loudmouth asses in the far corner. So I dove in again and bought `Achin' in Yer Bones'....Yes! Hell of an album. Good luck with it all, and come back to London again, please....soon.
Cheers,
Al
Long live Willie P - `Somethin goin' on', for sure.

Hi Romi. Saw your show with the Derek Trucks Band last night, and I loved it. Your band is fabulous and I was thoroughly entertained. Love your voice, lyrics and music. You also obviously enjoy performing and that is infectious for your audience. Looking forward to seeing you again sometime!
Thank you, and all the best to you and your bandmates,

I caught a bit of your show today at the Canwest stage and really enjoyed it. I bought your CD and spoke to you briefly at the end of the show. By the way I agree with you - I don't much like Styx and BTO either. Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to listening to your CD.
Thanks for a fun half hour. It was a welcome break from stressful budget work.

Ok - just to help out anyone thinking about what to do here>>>if you are in the UK and Romi is playing near to you and you like singer-songwriters, roots music, rock'n'roll. acute lyrics, great tunes, honest musicians, musicianship, a good night out you never expected.. then go see her.
If you like Lucinda Williams, Fred Eaglesmith, Hayes Carll, Sam Baker etc then get there early because the pre-shpw tapes are just for you.
Fuck it - just go. You'll have a great night |

Hi Romi. We never heard of you before I read about you in the Vnacouver paper. Decided it was worth checking out your show at Rogue Folk 20 March 2009. Loved the venue and we really loved the show. A true professional with great original music. And you have a great band with you at the moment. Your show was a terrific highlight to our short visit to Vancouver. Bumped into Shai outside afterward and he said his band was coming to New Zealand maybe later this year. You should think about that too so we can have a chance to see you perform again.

After we met you in May in Ottersum, NL, we listened to your CD almost every day. Such a beautiful songs! Today we had the funeral of my Mum. Your song “Bible” was the whole day in the head of Desiréé. When we came back we listen a few times to your song “Bible” and to the other songs and we cryed a lot. Thank you for writing and singing such beautiful songs. We hope you will be back in Holland someday. If not we will come and see somewhere else in this world...
Lots of Love from your fans in Holland.

WOW! I first heard you last fall, one night when I was driving home from work and I believe you were passing through Dallas. I don't remember what station it was, but they played a couple of your songs and I was just blown away, and I finally remembered to go online where I ordered your CD, Sweet Something Steady. It took awhile to get here, but it was well worth the wait; you are an AMAZING artist, and I hope to hear you in person someday. In the meantime, WOW! Keep writing and singing songs; we're all richer for your doing so. |

Hello Romi Mayes. I'm excited to read through your hope page. I'm the Korean girl who was asking to buy your cds the other day where there were bycicle riders. I hope you remember but I'm not sure if you do. I still am very interested in buying more cd's. I was planing about 10. Actually. Yeah. just one question. Would you at all ever be interested in playing as a guest at a church convention (gospel) with other artists??? Some things are being planned in the city of Vancouver B.C where there are artists wanting to promote their music for Jesus, for the sake of reaching out to the public. Stand up comedians, dancers, rockers....art exibitions , children outreach...etc. This is not just One church convention... it's the gathering of nearly all christians in the city of vancouver and also the general public.
This is also a testimony of God's faithfulness in one girls life who suffered gang violence to the point of a brutal death and the resurection of Christs power in her life. If you are at all interested in participating. We'd be honored to have you.
Thankyou for your wonderful and touching music.

miss Romi, a pleasure to see you at the Queens in nanaimo, especially with my old buddy Kent. I love the new CD. you're a very good songwriter. As well, your lyrics have an incredible relatability to them, especially in Let me run(let me be weak) and, after suffering through a catholic school reality washing myself, the song bible is a beautiful philosophy. I double dare you to open with it in Texas though. good luck, and hope to see you on the island soon. |

London Music Club Show- My first Romi experience was great. I think I'm hooked. I've been playing Living Room Sessions all day. The only thing I've been playing for months is Fred but, you had me take him out for a little bit. Great stuff. I'm looking forward to when you get back to the London area, for sure.
Rory was right about you. He was still jakked for hours after the show.

All,
Since I know we have a bunch of Mark Junger fans here, we wanted to let you know about an upcoming event here in New Braunfels, TX. This Friday, 18 August, 7PM, we will be doing another evening of live music in the park. Our featured guest this month is Mark Jungers and The Whistling Mules. The setup will be the same as our previous house concerts. There is a $10.00 donation requested, of which 100% goes to the band. Please bring either a covered dish or something to throw on the grill. Mark and the band will play a couple of sets and in-between you'll have a chance to meet the boys and share some great food. Don't forget to bring your lawn chair or blanket. Since we are holding this event at the park THERE IS NO LIMIT ON FOLKS ATTENDING SO BRING YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS!!
If you have any questions or need directions, please give us a call at 210-317-7504. Hope to see you all there this Friday.
ALSO...word is Romi and the gang may be down here in November and we are hoping to have them do a house concert for us then!!
Thanks,
Mark and Caroll Andrew

I have listened to the new songs from you new compact disc.
We saw you play in Wakefield with The D.Rangers two times last year and bought your other album for us and then two for our friends the next time you came to perform. We are thrilled to see on your calendar that you will be returning. Save us a copy (or two!) of the new one. We'll be bringing the friends that we bought the album for, too. They're eager to see you live.
Have safe travels until then,

Wow Romi....
I am still in awe of the show that I got to see at Dana and Andy's on March 22nd out at Cuervo Acres. Remember, I was the Arkansas girl who came in late?? You started out my Fred Fest Weekend just right. At the time, I was not aware of Willie P. until you sang one of his songs. Then when I got to see him that weekend, I have become an instant fan of yours and his!! AND on top of that, I now have a huge crush on Dan, your right hand man!!! You two started and just rounded out a wonderful weekend. Please tell Dan, I stopped by his favorite tatoo place in Austin the next day...but his 'tat' artist was not there, so I will try to get that done next trip. Keep up that great sound you two...and be careful on the road and I am playing the hell out of your new CD...LOVE IT!!! Got me all the way back home to the Ozark Mountains and Arkansas which is a friend of mine:) Not to mention my home since I was born!! Only thing that would make it better is if you were coming through here soon. Gwen!! |

Hey Romi,
We kicked off our first trip to TX and our first Fred-in-TX weekend with your show at Cuervo Acres. What a way to start! Can't tell you how much we enjoyed your music. Picked up The Living Room Sessions there, and enjoyed it all the way back to TN. Just ordered every stinkin' one of the rest of your CDs. Gotta say it again, I'm sure you don't need Nashville, but Nashville needs you!!! Hope you make your way to TN one day soon. God Speed, and we'll be watchin' for ya...AND that new CD with Gurf!

This is Tina, of "Tina and Greg", from the Woodstock show.
Awesome show girl! You put on a great performance with your music, your lyrics and your humour really caps it off.
So great to experience your music and the sounds of the D-Rangers. It was my first foray back into the music scene in a few years and what a great way to start things off right.
Loved our chat in the lounge after the show and hanging out at George's. Both Greg and I look forward to seeing you again sometime soon.

Re: July 26th gig in Woodstock, ON.
The show was great, we met expenses and I was able to give the artists a small sum of money, which is nice, but if you know these guys, they play for the sheer joy of it and it shows. The Theatre was a star in it's own right with great sound provided by Doug Tasker from London, wonderful acoustics, and comfortable seats. I didn't think I wanted to do this sort of thing again, now I have to, just to show people this live music in this gem of a room. Watch for a Fred show there in the not too distant future.
I went down to Toronto Mon. night and caught Romi's set at Mitzi's Sister on Queen St. W. and was blown away by her voice, songwriting and humour. The 90 people in the audience in Woodstock were similarily enthralled and then midway through her set she made me blush by referring to the title of one of her songs that I can't type on a family Digest. Jaxon accompanied Romi on mandolin, saw (and killer harmonies) and Tom traded the Muckbucket for an electric bass as they performed as her back-up group the Temporarily Employed. Her lastest disc is called the Living Room Sessions and is worth picking up which quite a few people did last night. You can buy it at www.romimayes.com or the Northern picnic. She has a bunch of downloadable samples there too. Check it out.
The D.Rangers put on the best set I've seen yet from these guys, closing with Guy Clark's Desperadoes Waiting for a Train, that was worth the price of admission alone. I love their take on Little Feat's, Truck Stop Girl as well as Del Shannon's Runaway and of course their own stuff rocks...songs like Cherokee Surf, Stony Mountain Breakdown, Coughin' Up Blood and the title track from their latest disc We Stay High & Lonesome.
Romi, Jaxon, Chris, Aaron, Tom and Don played their hearts out, impressed the hell out of everyone in the room and all stayed at my place after and left to go back to T.O. this afternoon.
Can't smoke in the house or play outside that late so we didn't get to jam but we did watch Hank and Hayes sets from the Waypoint Center in Bellows on my Mighty Big TV. It was a lot of fun watching musicians I love on TV with other musicians that I love in the room.
I mentioned there was 90 people in the room... there were probably only a dozen that I didn't know before the show. Thank-you my friends for coming, helping and supporting live music in Woodstock. You make my life rich with your friendship. - George

Great job at the Winnipeg Folk Fest.
Thanks again for letting me interview you. You seemed really, well, happy there, and it's very nice to see you content with what's happening in your career.
Didn't see you at the Fairmont. Emmylou was there, but I didn't talk to her, although I caught her checking me out on the dance floor.
She's a cougar.
