| Comments: | OK, I finished reading the thing. Larry I have to say you sound like one of those History Teachers that sneak your way into the education system as a way to prevent independent thinking among the youth of this Country.. (I have you pegged right on the money don't I?) I can sit here and read your posts, and agree with some (Very Little) nonetheless some; but respect your opinion on History however screwed up that may be, I would expect you to do the same, instead you would like to forcefeed your opinions down the throat of others, and that is the problem with you Liberals,. You hate it when someone tells you that you are wrong, you cannot take a defeat when it is lying there right in front of you (Example President George W Bush 2000 Defeats Al Gore) get over it Man! Look if it makes you feel any better in 2008, as long as the DUMMYCRATS keep "Jezibelle" Hillary out of it. You Libs will again have the White House to make a Whore house, thanks to the Liberal media convincing the Ignorant Public (The Masses are incuribly Ignorant. Plato said that) that old Bushy Boy was a disaster. The Truth is GW is a very successful President. and all you have to look at is consistant economic growth created by his tax cut, this mind you with the War, Hurricanes etc. I tried to tell George that by creating these Hurricanes (Because he can do that according to the ignorant public) and lettling them destroy the infastructure of all these major Cities, it will hurt him at the polls.
Now you say I dishonor our Confederate dead. I say the biggest dishonor is you calling yourself a Christian and a Veteran and having a Liberal mentality. I was watching Saving Private Ryan the other day I can't help but to assume that you were just like the guy who sat on the stairway as that German Soldier was just above you killing two of your men, and all you could do was sit there either in fear, or because you think it just ain't right to kill another man. But hey I still respect your opinion, I just don't agree with it. And would you quit saying I am blocking your posts, what are you talking about? All your posts seem to be here as far as I can tell. |

| Comments: | Here's the post again that was blocked several weeks ago...
Don't flatter yourself by thinking I stay up all night thinking this stuff up because I'm in a snit because you're getting my Liberal panties in a wad. I've sharpened by claws on much more literate and experienced that you. It's a matter of proper research, advanced age, and proper perspective. By the way, Thomas Jefferson Bright's father, James H. Bright, enlisted on the same day and the same place up at Summit as his son Thomas J. Bright. The elder Mr. Bright got sick over at Tupelo, Mississippi and received a medical discharge in the Summer of 1862 at the age of 51. Aunt Lois didn't send you this? In your "Tribute" page doesn't your GGGGrandfather at least rate an honorable mention? By the way, I WORK (using your emphasis) in support of the Army, descend from a long ling of soldiers over the years, some of them Revolutionary Patriots, several of them honorable Confederate Soldiers, a few in WWI, WWII, and Korea. I am also a seasoned researcher and your elder. My contention is you dishonor our Confederate ancestors by mixing right wing nut politics and self-righteous religious idealogy, which in turn dims your attempt at saluting the Confederate flag and our revered Confederate ancestors. You'd do better to keep them separate. Rog, folks of your ilk have problems understanding how other people can be born again Christians, serve the military, salute the American flag, honor their ancestors who labored for the Lost Cause under the Confederate Flag, yet consider some of your diatribe way right of the mainstream. Liberals are stead fast against the death penalty? Not necessarily. I'd gladly pull the switch on any low life who whacked anyone in my family. Does that make me less of a Christian? Maybe so. Does that make me more than a Liberal? Confusing isn't it? History Lesson: Our great General Robert E. Lee's father-in-law Custis’s will legally required Lee to emancipate the slaves that passed into his control within five years of Custis’s death. Custis died October 10, 1857 and his will was probated December 7, 1857 ; Lee kept the slaves as long as he could, and finally filed the deed of manumission with Court of the City of Richmond on December 29, 1862—five years, two months, and nineteen days after Custis’s death; therefore, Lee actually owned slaves well into the Civil War and only "freed" them after he had the benefit of their labor for over five years. One of these slaves, Wesley Norris, testified in 1866, (reprinted in John W. Blassingame (ed.): Slave Testimony: Two Centuries of Letters, Speeches, and Interviews, and Autobiographies Baton Rouge: Louisiana State University Press), pp. 467-468), that General Lee had him and two other of the slaves whipped when they ran away in 1859. William Mack Lee, in his autobiography written in 1918, stated: "I was born June 12, 1835, Westmoreland County, Va.; 82 years ago. I was raised at Arlington Heights, in the house of General Robert E. Lee, my master. I was cook for Marse Robert, as I called him, during the civil war and his body servant. " You'll get no argument from me that Lincoln was a shameless political opportuntist who, among other things (including the speeches quoted on your site), issued the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation not so much to benefit the slaves, but as a political tool to sow discord in the South and give the North an edge by turning slaves against their masters. But you have to understand General Lee was a man of his own time. Most white men of the North or South of the time would be considered racist by today's standards. But that's not the point. You're wrong. General Robert E. Lee owned slaves; and he owned them during at least part of the Civil War. You can split hairs if you like by saying they weren't really his, but he had the economic benefit of their labor for years. Not only that, but in letters to his wife written in the 1850s, Lee not only condoned slavery, but condemned the abolitionists. All this is a matter of historical record. With the possible exception of my opinion of Lincoln, what I have presented here is "research." More History Lessons: You are STILL wrong about blacks in the Confederate Army. While I am certain blacks in the numbers you mentioned "Over 80,000" certainly served in support positions such as smiths, teamsters, cooks, and the like, they were not regularly enrolled Soldiers of the Confederacy as you imply; they were civilians employed by the Confederate army. Today, the equivalent would be known as "contractors." A regularly enrolled soldier could be employed as a cook, engineer or laborer. However, civilians were employed to do work required by the military so more soldiers could fight on the battlefield. Unless a person was enrolled by the military, however, he couldn't be issued a uniform, equipment or arms, couldn't get paid by the Army and wasn't subject to orders or the military chain of command. He's just not a soldier. If he got paid at all, it was through the Confederacy. The Confederate Congress required free men of color and some slaves to serve in limited capacities. This act was passed as a complimentary provision to the military law of Feb. 17, 1864: CHAP. LXXIX.--"An Act to increase the efficiency of the army by the employment of free negroes and slaves in certain capacities. WHEREAS, The efficiency of the army is greatly diminished by the withdrawal from the ranks of able-bodied soldiers to act as teamsters, and in various other capacities in which free negroes and slaves might be advantageously employed..." Similarly, the Union army employed, or simply pressed into "service" thousands of blacks as builders of fortifications, cooks, and teamsters and treated them much like the slaves they were before they were "emancipated." While I'm sure those black men who served the Confederacy fit your narrow definition of soldier, to quote one of my fellow researchers, "It is still proper to ask for verification of anyone's claim of military service. To do otherwise minimizes the blood and sacrifice of ALL those who did serve honorably. " You suggest that over 80,000 ex-slaves and freedmen were regular members of the Confederate Army. Hardly. The actual number of enrolled black Confederate soldiers was much lower. It took almost another 100 years before DEMOCRAT President Truman integrated the armed services. You think the Confederacy had several whole companies and regiments of black soldiers which amounted to 80,000? Sorry Rog. You're just flat out wrong. Now, do I expect you to believe any of these History Lessons? Probably not. It has been my experience that right wing nuts hold so tightly to their belief structure, no amount of truth, research, or what-have-you will serve to change their minds a bit. You've already demonstrated that by your single-minded contention that the King James Version of the Bible is the only one which is relevant, thereby restricting most of the rest of the world from the teachings of Jesus Christ, unless it is from some "lesser" translation. So, what about Affirmative Action? Like you, I have a close black friend. As a matter of fact, I have several good friends who incidently happen to be black who come over to the house all the time. But that's not the point. On your site you blast affirmative action. What does your black friend think about affirmative action? Have you ever discussed affirmative action in the same conversation with Jim Crow laws? I suspect that you or someone (white) you know was passed over for a job or a promotion because of some quota system which has generated your ire at an institution which, you say, is to "screw the no good dirty white man." I'll be the first to admit I have trouble with any person who is elevated to positions they don't deserve or haven't earned. But let's look at the concept together and I'll relate a real world lesson and teach you a little perpective on affirmative action. After all, I am your elder. High tech business centers, such as Huntsville for example, are populated by dozens of businesses founded by minority owners. These business owners got their start with a form of your hated affirmative action programs. These programs got their start under the Republican Eisenhower administration. These business owners are not only black-owned (Roger Stalworth's company is an example), but also woman-owned, hispanic-owned, asian-owned, and American-Indian-owned. And guess what? They hire predominantly WHITE business and technical professionals. These employees earn much more than the prevailing average wage for Alabama. And they pay lots and lots of taxes; proportionally higher simply because of their higher pay rate. These white professionals spent an enormous amount of time and money educating themselves so they could become members of the high tech community. These Alabamians took advantage of various Government programs, such as educational loans, Pell Grants, etc., to pay for their education. They made a conscious decision to sacrifice play time for working days and studying nights to get to where they are. The minority business owners did the same thing. While, I agree and can cite examples of those who take advantage of the system, the point is, most people earn the wage they earn because of the choices, for better or worse, they have made in life. Rog, it seems a little disingenuous of you to claim to have a black best friend, to cite ironic examples of blacks serving the Confederacy, and to post banners of American Indian themed sites, and then blast affirmitive action. At the same time you blast immigration while you forget that the entire United States is a nation of immigrants, with the exception of the American Indians which, by the way the White man over the last several generations did all they could to exterminate or relegate to small pockets of native population. So Rog, just what exactly is the American Culture? Does that mean we should be studying the Cherokee Alphabet or something similar? Or should we adapt to some later form of American Culture? What form should that be? Yours? Should we subscribe to the Puritan standard? The German brand of Catholocism of Cullman? The French? The Irish? The Italian? The Chinese? The Jewish? Rog, I know exactly what you're getting at. Your American Culture is the Christian values handed down by your ancestors, including at least one Confederate. And you expect any immigrant to assimilate accordingly. However, you are forgetting we are a melting pot culture made up of many different colors of culture. Should Cullman stop remembering their German ancestors with Ocktoberfest in an effort to assimilate? Should hispanics similarly forget Cinqo de Mayo? Should blacks shun Quanza? Should jews forget Haunakha, Passover, and the holocaust? Should I forget the Confederate flag my many GGGrandfathers fought under? Of course not. And I have no right to expect the rest give up any of their traditions in the name of assimilating to someone else's idea of American Culture. For this reason you have to be careful about legislating prayer in school. Voluntary is fine. However, since the United States is multi-cultural by definitation, if prayer in school is legislated, do you want your children to recite a jewish prayer, buddhist prayer, islamic prayer, druid, wiccan, or what? I think I know your preference, but what if your child went to school with jews? Should they be excused while the rest of the "Christian" kids recite The Lord's Prayer? Should you expect them to instantly "assimilate" to Christianity to conform to your narrow-minded idea of American Culture? The point is this: If we as parents don't teach our children proper moral values, how to pray, how to love and care; if we don't take them to church every Sunday, no amount of prayer is school is going to make a bit of difference in their behavior or belief structure. Now back to Affirmative Action: You remember when I mentioned I have trouble with any person who is elevated to positions they don't deserve or haven't earned? Hmmm. Kinda reminds me of someone you know who's daddy pulled some strings and got him into the Texas Air National Guard when they were already full up and who later went AWOL. And who's daddy later got him into Yale. (He graduated with a low C Average and was a cheerleader). So tell me Rog, was dubya a beneficiary of a form of priviledged-class "affirmative action"? Did he receive positions of advancement which were undeserved or unearned? And aren't you being a little selectively indignant about this whole Affirmative Action and American Culture business? My daddy was just a hard-working North Alabama farmer who would have had no chance of getting me into the Alabama equivalent of the Texas Air National Guard. Son, I have earned my station in life. Some of us are old enough to realize that dubya is beginning to make Nixon look good, if that is possible. The comparison is all the more relevant when you realize that major members of the dubya entourage are retread members of the Nixon administration, e.g., Rumsfield, Cheney, Wolfowitz, etc. Rog, I'm reasonably sure you voted for the shrub because of the mish-mash of right wing opinion on your site. That means you are at least partially responsible for the monumental disaster he has created by wasting time, money, resources, and American soldier's lives in Iraq; now folks are suffering on our Gulf Coast because he created a huge new government bureaucracy called Homeland Security which absorbed FEMA, and then he appointed talentless GOP cronies in places of administration. Homeland Security miserably failed it's first big test during Hurricane Katrina. Michael "Barney Fife" Brown comes to mind. Typical of you Republicans, now you are distancing yourself now that dubya has proven his incompetent leadership. That leaves you to now question his faith and to only champion the fact he executed criminals.. Now you'd rather try and hide behind some label like "Constitutional Party" now that you're embarrassed to be referred to as a voting Republican. If you had the benefit of just a little perspective you would have questioned his actions several years ago. It was he and Rove, among others, who cooked up the idea of embracing the religious right as a political ploy to amass his base backers in his Texas days. I honestly believe he had about as much righteous interest in doing that as Lincoln had in issuing the Emancipation Proclamation. Here's a quote from the King James Version which, in any translation, is appropriate when thinking about the religious right as embodied by dubya and that charlatan, Pat Roberson. Their "righteousness are as filthy rags." Isaiah 64:6. You simply have to understand there is no relationship between what Repugnicans say and what they do. One More History Lesson. In the days following the the Civil War, the Congress was populated with men who became known as Radical Republicans. They are the ones predominantly responsible for the repressive retaliatory laws and 10 years of military occupation of the South. Most of the Presidents of the United States following the Great War through the turn of the last century were Republican ex-Union Generals. I have read hundreds of pension applications submitted through the State of Alabama by ex-Confederates. Guess what? They were proud to be called Democrats. They were Democrats until the last ones in this area died off in the 1930s. Once again Congress is filled with Radical Republicans and we have a carpet bagger opportunist President. Ironic how history repeats itself. But some things remain the same. I'm proud to be a Democrat just like my Confederate ancestors. You can call me Liberal, Progressive, or any kind of foul epithet you wish. But Democrat is most apt. I am also currently serving the Army, I've logged more classroom and library time than most humans, and I'm a professing born-again Christian with very many human faults me and God are still working on. If all that makes my opinion worthless, so be it. Rog, we're not all that much different from each other. We're just at opposite ends of a single long fence peeking around the corners at each other. When you turn to look at me; I'm turning around the other way to look at you. And all we see is each other's ass. Thanks for the kind invite to your reunion event. But I'll attend my own reunion, in Blount County, near yours, near where my own ancestors lived and are buried, and with a good group of God-fearing folks whose reverence for our honored Confederates and politics, oddly enough, are similar to mine. And with that, my work here is done. Peace and blessings to you Roger Mayfield. *Poof!* |

| Comments: | Now Lawrence, come on now, doesn't you're Bible teach you to love everyone, even if you disagree with them? Why are you being such a Hater?
You are right about one thing, opinions are like assholes. Now as for you're opinion about me and old Dubya <---thats George W Bush, if you didn't catch that. What would make you think that I support old Bushy Boy? There are only a few things I like about the man. 1. When he was Governor of Texas, more convicts were executed and rightfully so, than in any other State that carries such a penalty. 2. He is open about his faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, (Im not so sure about that anymore) but nonetheless when I created the site he was or at least I thought so (I know shame on me huh) 3. I do have an autographed picture of him when he was Governor of Texas. (Im being sarcastic, just incase you didn't catch that.) Nope this man doesn't vote Republican or DUMMYCRAT, I only vote Constitutional Party because it's a matter of principle. Essentially when it comes right down to it, Republicans are Democrats in sheeps clothing, and DUMMYCRATS are well just DUMMYCRATS. Truthfully there is no difference, all decisions made by both parties base their logic on the almighty US Dollar and both could care less about the American people <----notice I said American People, not red people, not black people, not yellow people. AMERICAN PEOPLE <---just incase you didn't catch that. Lets talk facts here, My reference to the Blacks that served in the Confederate Army. I said OVER 80,000 black, not 80,129 and 1/2. the Key word is (OVER) something you obviously did not catch. You are right the exact number is unknown, just as the exact number of dead from both sides is unknown, some schalors estimate over 2 million died, which is much higher than the 660,000 estimated by our Government. Now as for my Great Great Grandfather Thomas Jefferson Bright, All the information about my Great Great Grandfather was given to me as it is from my Aunt, after all we are talking about my relative and not yours. No where on this site does it state that the information about him was written by me (See if it did that would be plagerism, just incase you did not catch that) Now it was given to me as it is with the exception to the heading with his Date of Birth etc. I did write that. I tell ya what, we have a family reunion every year in Blount County Alabama at my Aunt Lois' residence. You send me an email before July 4, 2006 and i'll give you driving directions there. Good catfish with all the fixins, we can go to the Cemetary where more than 200 of my family members are buried, I can take you to the place where my Great Great Grandfather use to live, I can show you you the path he took home from Tennessee, barefoot with those blisters and infections on his feet that you spoke of, after he escaped from Union Soldiers after being captured, parts of that path today are referred to as "Highway 231/431" and again No slaves were brought over here on Confederate ships, Clearly used as an example (You didn't catch that) As for Robert E. Lee, you are correct he did inherit several slaves, however they were freed instantly after acquiring them. Your facts about the so called slaves that you mention General Lee as owning are dead wrong! Robert E. Lee had two "Employees" that were paid a wage for what they did, and if i am not mistaken the last time i checked that did not constitute being labled a slave. The KKK, Swastika on my bald head, come on Lawrence! it is so easy for you Liberals to lable us "Right Wingers" as KKK Racists etc. Just for speaking the truth. I did have some respect for you're opinions prior to that statement. It is only when someone uses a "cheezy" statement like the one you made that brings discord to any further statements or opinions. The KKK in my mind is no more different than the NAACP, both are hate groups, and I can't stand what they have done to bring such dishonor to my American Flag (Stars & Bars) And there are very few people in this world that I actually hate, now thats not to say that I don't dislike some folks, but hate them? I don't think so. My best friend is black, and I would gladly lay down my life to save his as he would lay down his to save mine. Now does that make me "HITLER"? One thing I understand about our society is that everyone has their own opinion, and a right to express that opinion in any way they see fit (Thanks to our forefathers) just as everyone has their own take and view on American History, and you don't have to agree with mine, but if you do not like it, then why have you visited my site 23 times? Getting late my Friend, I have a busy day ahead. I am certain we will be corresponding again soon. Until next time. |

Now as far as me being a Schizophrenic, come on Lawrence give me a break, you said I deleted your post and now even better that I deleted my guestbook; man it looks like the same guestbook to me, and what post exactly did I delete? Feel free to post it again whatever it was I will gladly post it for you. Anyway my friend I look forward to hearing from you again.
Remember if it ain't King James, It ain't Bible! Have a good one Larry. |

| Comments: | Want more? I heard one poor soul tell me once that he only used the Bible that Jesus used: the King James Version. Yep that meant that Jesus' Sermon on the Mount must have sounded like Benny Hill quoting Shakespeare. Let's see...Jesus was a jew, so he spoke Hebrew or aramaic. Look Rog, it's silly to single out a single Translation of the Holy scriptures as only the appointed Word of God, especially when it was a translation commissioned by a King of England. Many educated ministers and Biblical scholars study the scriptures in their earlier forms of the Greek, Latin, and Hebrew, some of which were tranlations of their own. I suppose you consider those inappropriate since you can't read or appreciate them. That's what right wing nuts do: dismiss or ridicule that which they don't understand. You've already demonstrated your narrow view of politics, but you insist on demonstrating a narrow view of religion as well...but of course, that makes sense coming from you. Jesus, the Liberal, would be disappointed in your dogged adherence to a single 400 year old translation of the Bible when His words and concepts go back over 2000 years. The words and concepts are universal and your small minded opinion instantly renders anyone who simply doesn't speak English incapable of hearing the Good News and studying the Holy Word of God. Yep, let's be sure that Shakespearian English translates very well into Japanese. Rog, you see how dumb it is to endorse a single version of the Bible just because that's the only one you know how to read? |
| Name: | Larry |
| Comments: | Now, let's look at some of the "facts" in your pages. Robert E. Lee, probably the best General ever born in the US, did indeed own slaves. He inherited 63 from his father-in-law and then there was his well known manservant, William Mack Lee, who was with him throughout the war. No slaves on Confederate ships? Congress banned any new importation of slaves in 1808. The Confederacy was established in 1861. Duh! Rog, you have a over a 50 year disconnect there. 80,000 black Confederates? Between the lost and destroyed records, we can't even be sure exactly how many white Confederates we had, much less black Confederates. While many black citizens served in support positions, they were hardly regular army as you imply. Your 80,000 figure was anally derived. By the way, NASCAR stopped contributing to the Rainbow/Push Coalition in the Summer of 2003. You didn't get the memo? I could cite more examples of how you've got it wrong. Rog, you're pathetic. You steal from other websites and then you can't get your own so-called "facts" right in that which it appears you might have actually written all by yourself. If you were so interested in "honoring" our Confederate ancestors, why not tell about the unimaginable hardships and deprivation they suffered...walking home barefoot hundreds of miles and not being able to embrace their family until they could wash off the body lice...North Alabamian ex-Confeds traveling to the Tenn. Valley to steal corn in the dead of night to keep themselves and their families from starving...enduring 10 years of military occupation by Northern Troops. How about mentioning the venerable old black men who served the South and were gladly welcomed to participate in Veteran's reunions in Huntsville and Birmingham? Rog, your research is lousy and what's left is your half-baked right wing nut rants. You dishonor our Confederate dead with your lack of attention to anything other than your asinine politics. |
| Name: | Larry |
| Comments: | Imagine my disappointment when I Googled for research sites on our honored Confederates and found your junk. Is it so hard for you to grasp the concept that there are those of us who are descendants of honored Confederates, who respect the Confederate and the American flag and Constitution, who serve the military, who are born again and attend the Southern Baptist Church, tote guns, and listen to country music, and who think that people like you who dishonor our Confederate's memory and pervert our religion by inserting paltry partisan politics are little more than big steaming piles of horse hockey? Next time you polish the hardwood floor next to the bed with your knees (if you do that sort of thing) see if you can reconcile your brand of hate politics with honest New Testament Biblical teachings. |
| Name: | Larry |
| Comments: | Let's review. Rog, you've already proven you're either too lazy or ignorant to perform your own research since you stole the "Tribute" to your ancestor from another site. That probably means you cut and pasted the most of the rest of your site from other existing material you found on the web as well. The remainder is just your opinion. My Confederate ancestors told their children who in turn passed it down to me that opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one and some of them, like yours, stink. Instead of reprinting quotes from Lincoln, how about something more original, like he was a bona fide manic depressive who predicted his own death; but not only that he was married to a certifiable looney toon who just happened have several relatives in the Confederate Army. Moreover, Rog, focus. You're all over the map mixing right-wing politics, religion, and dead Confederates. Pick one. You bring shame upon our Confederate ancestors by sucking up to a president who is no more Texan than you are eskimo. He's merely a transplanted New Englander. Can you say carpetbagger? I knew you could. |
| Name: | Larry |
| Comments: | Rog, you're getting a little schitzoid. You removed this forum after I called you a coward for doing it and slying substituting another one and now you're denying it. Typical. It's obvious you're a right wing nut by the stuff you post on your site, but there's nothing in my posts that makes me "liberal" other than calling you to task for plagarism. Jesus was the original liberal and he's probably very disappointed that you're using religion to peddle your politics. If he were really talking to you he would be the first to remind you that the "righteous" were wrong in his time as well. So long now. It's time for you to slap a swazstika on your fascist bald head and goose step down to the Klan meeting. For me, Mommy and Daddy need their computer back to plan their next quilting bee and I have to get ready for school tomorrow, where we pledge allegiance to the flag, study the constitution and american history and wonder how some folks just don't get it. We also pray at school, but we've always done that, so get over it. |

| Comments: | Deleting my response to your last lame retort? C'mon now Rog...can't take the heat? Thought you wanted to mix it up. In case you're wondering, I checked the referenced website as well as the other ones you cite. You are definitely guilty of plagarism. Mercy, you're just living proof of what a pinhead can do with an agenda, a computer, and "Web Pages for Dummies"...I could prove it with a simple Google search, but you probably cut and pasted the rest of your site from existing sources as well. Ditto heads like you are incapable of an original thought; what's worse is you spout right wing hate in the name of God and morality, thus bringing shame upon the memory of our honored Confederate dead. Now, why don't you and Pat Robertson just go on down to Venezuela and murder Chavez in the name of Christ. |

| Comments: | Yo, Rog...! In addition to probable plagarism, you're also guilty of dashing off a weak and typical response of a right wing nut; you're ignoring the obvious and ridiculing the irrelevant...and you call ME a moron? |

| Comments: | The web site from which information on your Mr. Bright originated is: http://home.hiwaay.net/~bobwonda/index.html
I am personally acquainted with the author/webmaster and I'm sure he would be happy to send you copies of original source material which went into the write up which wound up on your site. He gladly shares such material all the time with other researchers. However, I am also sure he would want you to first reference his site on yours as a courtesy and acknowledgement of his research. By the way, I know for a fact he had seven great-grandfathers who fought and shed blood for the Confederacy. Two of them are buried in Blount County and one is buried near your Mr. Bright just down the road from Sulphur Springs at Harmony. |

| Comments: | Why Certainly; any accurate information I can get on Grandpa Bright would be great. I have the stories from my Great Uncles Ray, Tom, and Clyde, all whom are still living. I also recieved some military records information from the Chickumauga Battle field, where my Great Great Grandfather served in the 50th Ala. Infantry, and Calvalry under General Nathan Bedford Forrest. It is still a work in progress getting what I can. Now one question; Are you Kin to me, or some sort of historian? Just curious.
Thanks Roger |

| Comments: | Yours is a much better photo! Nah, your Aunt Lois doesn't have the original of the other one you had posted up until this week. Perhaps it was she who borrowed it from the Blount County site where the write up at your site originally appeared. My point in all this was to gently point out the material on your Mr. Bright came practically word for word from an existing copyrighted Blount County site and it would be best if your site gave proper credit. Your write up even contains now irrelevant internal references, (i.e. "See also 1907 Blount County Confederate Census). The letter to the "reporter for the Southern Democrat" was actually a letter sent to a representative of the UDC (Mrs. Vollie Miles) in response to requests for tales of the Civil War from Blount County Veterans. Bright was one of several who responded similarly. The date 3 Oct 1935 is the date of the obit above your picture; the letter was written about 1925. The write up on Mr. Bright comes from several sources: his microfilmed Confederate service record, his microfilmed Alabama Confederate Pension file, his obit, cemetery records, and the original 1907 Blount County Confederate Census. All this is abstracted, referenced, and prefaced as such on the site where the original appears. The old photo of Mr. Bright is credited as well. Would you like to have your material properly cited? |

| Comments: | Well Conserned, how about this, Either you are My Aunt Lois, or you gave that photo to her and in turn she gave a copy to me, as she has the original. Either way for the sake of argument I will put my photo that my Wife took on the site. As for the article I will leave it as it is, because that is how it was presented to me, until someone can show me otherwise.
Thanks for writing. |

| Comments: | Trouble is, you didn't take that picture of the monument. I did. ;-)
Also, Bright didn't write the letter to The Southern Democrat. It was written to Mrs. W.C. Miles of the Daughters of the Confederacy, not a newspaper reporter. The date of the newspaper article you quoted was actually the date of his obituary. Proper documentation will let you avoid such errors. |

Not only was the Civil War about economics and politics and not so much about slavery, but every other war has also been about the same things, economics and politics.....not oppression. I may not be as conservative as a lot of people but I strongly agree that there is just too much liberalism in this country. Don't like it, then leave it they say, but I have ancsestors who died freeing this country with the ideas and ideals that the forefathers brought to the tables when the Constitution was written and signed.

| Comments: | This site is impressive!!! I never knew alot of the information that you have put on your site. I have been under the illusion of what I learned in school. I do believe that some people stereotype southern people as being racist because of what has been written in the history books. Furthermore, that our government allows the foreigners to come into the country and live under thier own beliefs, religions and stand behind them but won't stand behind their own southern people who were no more racist than a northern person. It's a shame that the Souths values and christian beliefs have underwent it's own type of racism and is in danger of becoming extinct. I don't support racism and it's clear and present that their is still a civil war against the south going on today but now that I think about it I don't think it ever ended. GOD BLESS the people who stand for their lord and savior JESUS CHRIST. And bless the ones that are lost to be found. |

| Comments: | Roger,
First and foremost we wanted to thank you again for your help in our time of need. You have some great points and I think we are almost twins. The only difference is your from the south and I'm from the north. We are both proud of our heritage but we share almost the same views as a country. Growing up it seemed that I was being raised with a fear of the south even in this day and age. Four years ago after I was married I started to travel to south all the time. I don't know if people think about it or not down there but there is still a sense of pride in every day life down there. People might think that there is racism in the south but I grew up with it everywhere around me. I love my county and I love the men and women that are fighting for her everyday, but there are so many things that need to be mended between our people and everyone has got to stop letting liberal issues come first in a nation that was once great and could be again. It is funny how a country started on Christian beleifs, took God out of the state to protect us from persecution, but it was still not enough. They have to keep taking Christ from every thing that makes this country go round. People wonder why this country is going down the drink, its because you don't have more people like George W. Bush Taking a stance with Christ and letting him walk first. George W. Bush isn't perfect but he knows who is in charge. Our nation opened its boarders with freedom of religon under a Christian basis. Being christians we should open our doors to people who don't know the way, in hopes of showing them truth. Well I guess I'm Just strting to vent so I will Take a break and I want to thank you for your thoughts and your website. Josh |
