My grandparents both came from Visk in the early 1900's. They settled in Missouri Valley, IA - some of their kids (and my great aunt) settled on Carol Avenue on the West side of Chicago. I saw my fathers name, Vernon Koenig listed linked to your website. It mentions his first marriage with no name for the woman, but gives the year 1943 in Pennsylvania. That was my mother, Neva Estelle Green. They were married May 10, 1943. I was looking at your pictures and saw Aurelia Green and I knew we had to be related. This is a nice update from the previous webpages I had copied back in 2006, including the pics of the old Niddrie House (which, of course, makes me sick that it was torn down!). I am concerned that the link to Bruce E. Walkup's Wauchope family history won't work - it may be the server, it may just be something temporary, but I would like to get an updated copy of everything, as I am yet another descendant of Captain James Alexander Walkup and Margaret Nancy Pickens - there are a lot of us here in the southeastern USA (GA, SC, NC). My ancesters were from Hungary & Austria. We are working on geneology and would like more information about those regions. My Grandmother, Mary Verona Nagy, was baptised(1880) & married(1903) at St.Nickolas Cathlic church in Visk. Her parents are Ferencz Nagy & Juliana Szabo. Árva Vince atya halála első évfordulójának közeledtén köszönetet mondok mindazoknak, akik, élen Rancz Árpád testvérünkkel és tagtársunkkal ma Pilisszántón kopjafát állítanak az atya emlékére. Árva Vice atya fájó és méltatlan körülmények között élte élete utolsó éveit, amikor kényszer hatása alatt távoznia kellett abból a rendből, amelyet a kommunizmus nehéz évtizedeiben, minden kockázatot vállalva, maga éltetett. Árva Vice atyának fájó és méltatlan körülmények között kellett az élők sorából távoznia. Árva Vice atya fájó és méltatlan körülmények között alussza örök álmát. Pedig nem akárki volt. A kommunizmus évtizedeiben, a szerzetesrendek betiltása idején, Árva Vince atya volt az egyetlen magyar alapítású férfi szerzetesrend, a Pálos Rend titkos vezetője. Ezekben az évtizedekben az ő kezébe tették le az esküt a titokban felszentelt új pálosok, azok, akik akkor, amikor már törvényesen működhetett a rend, – egy kivétellel – valamennyien megtagadták őt. És Árva Vince atya volt az, akit 1985-ben, Magyarország akkori prímása megbízott a Pálos Rend alapítója, esztergomi Boldog Özséb szentté avatásának előkészítésével. Ő volt a posztulátor. A rá bízott feladatot huszonkét év fáradságos munkájával elvégezte. A munka eredménye maga a posztulátum, tizenhét kötetben. Azért szólok ma Önökhöz, mert Árva Vince atya rám bízta élete művét, a tizenhét vaskos kötetet kitevő posztulátumot. Sokan elcsodálkoztak már ezen. Hogyan és miért pont a Magyarok Világszövetsége elnökének jutott ez a hatalmas örökség és egyben magasztos feladat? Amikor huszonkét év kitartó munkájának eredményeként készen állt esztergomi Boldog Özséb szentté avatásának tizenhét kötetes posztulátuma, Árva Vince atya felajánlotta azt a Magyar Katolikus Püspöki Konferencia részére, kérve, hogy e testület vállalja a szentté avatási per hátra levő, utolsó szakaszában az aktor szerepét. Bár több püspök és érsek is, magánlevélben jelezte támogató szándékát, a püspöki kar végül elutasította a felkérést, anélkül, hogy a testület egyáltalán tárgysorozatára emelte volna. Árva Vince atya ezután fordult a Magyarok Világszövetségéhez. 2008. augusztus 19-én, a Magyarok VII. Világkongresszusa keretében megtartott A fény üzenete c. kulturális konferencián, melyet élő adásban közvetített az ÁrpádHír Világtelevzió, jelentette be, hogy Boldog Özséb szentté avatási perének aktorává az egyetemes magyar nemzetet egyedül képviselni hivatott Magyarok Világszövetségét szeretné felkérni. A Magyarok Világszövetsége hosszan elemezte a felkérést, majd Elnöksége révén, 2008. december 6-án döntött a megtisztelő feladat elvállalásáról. Egyben arról is, hogy 2008. december 13-án, a Pálos Rend teljes körű pápai jóváhagyásának 700. évfordulóján Pálos emléknapot tart székházában. Kiváló alkalomnak mutatkozott ez a tizenhét kötetes posztulátum ünnepélyes és nyilvános átadására. Ám ekkor már sűrű fellegek keringtek Vince atya fölött. Ekkor ő a marosvásárhelyi klinikán, egy súlyos hátgerinc-baleset következtében élet és halál között lebegett. Nem tudom pontosan, hogy kik és miért döntöttek úgy, hogy Vince atyát november második felében Csíksomlyóra viszik, kirándulni. Tény, hogy minderről azután értesültem, miután a végzetesnek bizonyuló baleset bekövetkezett. Mélységesen sajnálom, hogy a csigolyatöréses balesetet enyhe agyvérzésnek, „pici, baloldali gyengeségnek”, könnyű sérülésnek diagnosztizálták Csíkszeredában. Csak harmadnap jöttek rá, hogy Vince Atya közvetlen életveszélyben van. Ekkor szállították át Marosvásárhelyre, ahova magam is sietve elutaztam. Fájdalommal teli szívvel adok hálát a Jóistennek, azért, hogy a műtét előtti esten – 2008. november 22-én – hosszan beszélgethettem Vince atyával. Ekkor már nyakán merevítő kötéssel, nagyon nehezen, zihálva beszélt. Ismételten és erősen megígértette velem, hogy Boldog Özséb szentté avatásának posztulátumát eljuttatom a Vatikánba. Nem gondolt Ő ekkor még a halálra, a szentté avatási misét látta lelki szemei előtt. Nagyon bízott Őszentségében, XVI. Benedek pápában. Amikor eljött az a bizonyos nap, 2008. december 13-a, amelyen a Magyarok Világszövetségének székházában, a Pálos emléknap keretében, a Pálos Rend képviselőinek jelenlétében Árva Vince atya munkatársai könnyezve átadták a tizenhét vaskos kötetet, dermedt csend ült a teremre. Valamennyien Árva Vince atyára gondoltunk, hiszen ez a nap az ő munkássága beteljesülésének napja kellett volna legyen, miközben ő – immár a budapesti baleseti kórházban – az élet és a halál harcát vívta... A rendezvény végeztével Vince atya betegágyához siettem. Napok óta lélegeztető gépen volt, már nem kommunikált. Odaültem ágya szélére és fülébe mondtam a nevemet, valamint azt, hogy nyilvánosan átvettem a posztulátumot. Ekkor révedt tekintetébe egy pillanatra visszatért az élet, és egy nagy sóhajtott. Ez volt megkönnyebbülő, utolsó földi üzenete. Egy nap múlva visszaadta lelkét a Teremtőnek. Kedves Magyar Testvéreim! Tartoztam ezzel a vallomásszerű beszámolóval Önöknek és a magyar nyilvánosságnak. És tartozom Árva Vince atyának azzal a vallomással, hogy a rám bízott drága kincset Isten segedelmével révbe juttattam: az egyetlen magyar alapítású férfi szerzetesrend alapítója, esztergomi Boldog Özséb szentté avatásának tizenhét kötetes posztulátumát elvittem a Vatikánba és személyesen adtam át a Szentek Ügyei Kongregációja prefektusának, Angelo Amato érseknek úrnak, aki ebben az órában Esztergomban végzi Meszlényi Zoltán Lajos, Mindszenty József hercegprímás vértanú esztergomi érseki helynökének boldoggá avatását. A feladatot nem tekintem befejezettnek. Ám – ha csak meg nem fúrják Magyarország irányából – esztergomi Boldog Özséb szentté avatása a célegyenesbe érkezett. Szeretnék köszönetet mondani Bakk István úrnak, aki közvetítette Árva Vince atya szándékát a Magyarok Világszövetsége felé, amelynek eredményeképpen mai jelentésemet megtehettem, és mindenkinek, aki életében segítette és halálában tiszteli Árva Vince atyát. Thanks you for this great site. My daughter and I have been searching for years for a clue as to where the name Wahab came into the family. I have a line of Scott cousins who are named Blaine Wahab Scott. We assumed it was because we were somehow related to an indian family of that name. My father thought the same thing. Regarding the Matthew Francis Ryan family. The information you have on this site is incorrect. Matthew's first son was Matthew James Ryan (my father) he was married to Virginia Lee Hendrix (my mother) therefore I am the first living Ryan for that marriage. I also have a sister. There was family history published in 1940 regarding this family and was copied off with the mistakes. This is one of the mistakes that was published. So that everyone knows, the children of Matthew Francis Ryan and Gertrude Kern Ryan are: Matthew James Ryan; Frances Patricia Ryan married Chester Pascoe; Mary Kathleen Ryan who married Budd Alford; and Matthew Clemet Ryan deceased when he was 6. I was very happy to see your tree on Rootsweb. I never before have seen John Wood and Mary Lambert together on the same page. I have been trying to find out about them for years now. I think this John Wood is my ancestor and I have been trying to prove that Mary Lambert is as well. I know that Mary Lambert's brother Lewis married Mary Caskey,1785, and her brother Martin Caskey married Jane Middaugh and she is the sister of Margeret Middaugh, 1788. Margaret Middaugh married John Wood,18 May 1791, the son of the John Wood, 1753 who I believe is Mary Lambert's husband. On his Revolutionary War pension application he states that he was born in Elizabethtown on 3 July 1753 and that he was living in Scotch Plains when he enlisted for service. I wonder if you know anything more about him. I have been researching this for a long time now and have found a few men who might be his father. Do you happen to know anything more? He had a descendent who was named John Lambert Wood who is buried at the same place with him in Standing Stone, Bradford Co., PA. I sure would like to know if you have any thoughts on any of this. Norridge Magyar Református Egyház Chicagóban, a West Side-on 1914-ben alakult egy magyar református egyház, egyrészt a belvárosi reformátusok gyülekezetéből, másrészt pedig a volt Máramaros megyei Visk falubeleikből, akik a város nyugati részén telepedtek le és a Northwestern Vasúttársaság rendező pályaudvarának alkalmazottai voltak. A Carroll Avenuen megvásároltak egy német evangélikus templomot, melyet egészen a hatvanas évekig működtettek, majd Norridgbe tették át székhelyüket. 1914 február 22.: Egy csoport Viskről Amerikába jött, magyar gyűlést tartott és Református Egyházat alapított az örökkévaló Isten tiszteletére, Chicago Nyugati részen. 1914 április 28.: Egyház templomot vásárol a 4327 W. Carroll Avenue Szám alatt. 1914. október 21.: Az első lelkipásztor Nt. Krisik A. Alajos beiktatása. 1917.: A West Sidei Nőegylet megalakulása. 1936: Orgona megvásárlása. 1947. március: Rendszeres angol nyelvű istentiszteletek tartása megkezdődik. 1957. január: Öt aker területett vásárol az Egyház Foster Ave és a Cumberland Rd sarkán. 1966 március 27-től: már angol istentiszteleteket rendszeresen tartottak a 8260 W.Foster Ave alatt 1968 június 2.: Utolsó istentisztelet és úrvacsora osztás a Carroll ave.-i templomban 1968 június 16.: A közgyűlés elhatározza ,hogy az Egyház hivatalos nevét megváltoztatja Norridge United Church of Christ-ra. Tóborzó Néptánc csoport Az élet a a magyar egyház, a Chicagói magyarság, fiatalság körében gyökeres változást vett, amikor Balázsi Gábor erdélyi testvérünk Chicagóba érkezett. A kószáló, szétesőben lévő magyar fiatalságot tánckörével összefogta - magyar néptáncok ismeretére és szeretetére oktatta. Magyar szervezetek, szülők Gábort kérték fel gyermekeik néptánc tanítására. A fiatalok lelkesedése töretlennek bizonyult és ez megerősítette a néptánccsoportot. A sok tanulás, lelkesedés és áldozat, a magyar néptánc értékeinek felismerése, egyház fiatal tagjainak lendülete, az egyház és a szülők támogatása és segítsége, a néptánccsoport iránti igényt erősítette. Gábor és felesége Erika, az egyházunkon belül, a magyar fiatalok szervezésével hozta létre a Magyar Toborzó néptánccsoport. Azóta is sok-sok fellépese volt a tánccsoportnak, ami bizonyítja a csoport létjogosultságát,az erre való igényt és a szükségességet. Ez az igény hozta létre egy olyan rendezvény megszervezését, mint a chicagoi magyarság körében a táncház, amelyet minden évben ünnepélyes keretek közt rendeznek meg. Istennek hála, hogy a tánccsoport alapitójának, Dr. Balázs Gábornak az elköltözésével, akit munkája szólított el Bostonba, a tánccsoport nem omlott össze, hanem az egyházunk keretein belül, Vandeventer Lisa és Trufán Áron viszi tovább a tánccsoport vezetését. Mindkettőjüknek nagy tapasztalatuk és múltjuk van a Magyar kultúrában, annak ellenére, hogy Lisa Amerikában született. great site very interesting,i grew up in niddrie,lived right opposite the mansion,played in its grounds and orcards plus woods as a child oh! what happy times.can also remember the night of the fire it was around new year about 50 years ago,we had firemen in our home drinking cups of tea.its a terrible shame that such a lovely building was allowed to go to ruin.i always have felt that about it.as i,m sure others would had they seen it.as far as i know there is still a family cemetery there on the grounds .where the house once stood. i lived directly opposite the house,and attended niddrie mill primary school.which we owe to the wauchope family.i was once inside the house when there was a sale of its contents.it was truly magnificent.there was a cemetary beside the house.which i think is still there. | |
