I am National P.R.O. For the Irish Naval Association and I am delighted to find by accident your web site. I have never known my mother's family as my mothers family were Royal Navy living in Gosport. My Grandfather and Grandmother were very unhappy their daughter married a catholic Irishman who was also a known Republician in 1921. MY Grandmother and Grandfather served some time in the Naval Base in Cork (now the Irish Naval base)It was during this time my mother met and married my father. Shortly after The British gave the Naval base over to the new Irish government. My Grandparents went back to Gosport while my mother stayed here in Ireland and had 9 children. I would love to organise a visit to Gosport for our members sometime in the future. We have had several visits to the RNA in Berkinhead and Wales. | Comments: | Hi All, last here Aug 2004, am still going strong have been to many funerals since my last docking,some one must have put some grease on the perch cos they is fallin off it,I am no longer Vice chairman of the Perth Branch of the RNA due to politics, which I don't need at 81.I Know!!! if you can't beat em Join em , but I say F#%K em, Hms Ganges West Australian Branch of which I am a member, we put on a world wide reunion In September and we got 170 from all parts of the world it was great, except for one tragic incident, one of our local memebers invited two old shipmates from the UK that he had not seen for such a long time, it Was arranged that they would stay with him for 2 weeks , so he met them at the international airport,greeted them took them to his car stacked the suit cases in the boot slammed the boot lid down ,then dropped down dead with a heart attack, so the 2 visitors were trying to give him CPR but to late, so we started the reunion with a funeral different ah,so we had a wake and cast himoff across the bar,well have a good Trafalgar Day see you next year Take Care Keep your powder dry, regards Vic |

was hoping from my 2001 entry i would have more luck with fellow sailors knowing my dad Brian Daley who came out from Dolphin in 1974 as CPO. He served on Adament,Walrus,Rorqual and a few i cant remember and then was at Dolphin. Sadly he passed away in November 2002 aged 67. We miss him very much and especially his many stories of his naval days.Would love to hear from anyone who knew him and remember a Pete Fellowes and Dave Phillpot so if your reading i would love to hear from you.Still in touch with dads mate alan Green known as Chess as we moved to cheltenham in the late 70,s from Gosport where Chess lives too. | Comments: | I've just read the new book AMONGST THE MARINES by Steven Preece. I found it original and interesting. I liked how it had practically no information on military exercises or tours but concentrated on the marine's social lives. Some of the stuff in the book was disgusting, but in a funny way. In fact, I read this book in one go alternating between hysterical laughter, extreme interest, disgust and a huge sadness. And that's usually the mark of an excellent personal story.
I was never bored at any point in it, although I found the constant drinking sesions and fights to get a bit repetetive towards the end. However all in all, I found it an interesting and personal book. Well Done. EDIT: I wouldn't want to get in the way of your forehead! |

My first and only visit to the RNA Gosport club was 3½ years ago, where I had arranged to join up with an old 'oppo'. After waiting patiently for over 3 hours, he called the club in response to a message I had left on his phone, and said he had changed his mind! I had driven all the way from Newport in Staffordshire for the Meet & Greet, going out of my way; I was heading for Gatwick and my return flight to Canada, where I have resided since leaving the Andrew. Now retired through ill health but am active in local Naval Club and RNA Southern Ontario. |

George was born and raised in Gosport and joined the navy in 1926. He served on HMS Emperor of India, Revenge, Nelson, Voyager, Vendetta, Campbell, Champion, Electra, Hero (Spanish Civil War), and Belfast (when she was mined in the Firth of Forth), along with numerous shore assignments including HMCS Avalon where he received the BEM. He was a Submarine Detector instructor. |

The RCN Wren & the boat's LCEM, are still married, (almost 34 years) parents to 2 & soon will welcome grandchild #2 .... and they said it wouldn't last!!
