| Comments: | If the windscreen is constantly cracking, it has not been fitted properly.
The only difference between the new windscreen and the older one is in the height, this was for the SVA Test and will not fit an older model, without modifications to heighten the windscreen frame. At present the suppliers of the windscreens are unknown, if your windscreen has the British Standards Kite mark and code, one of the National Automotive Windscreen Manufactures may be able to help you. | Comments: | info is for any person trying to import a KITCAR into Switzerland.
to have no trouble importing a kitcar, then it must be a doner car that was 1st registered before 1973,and it must be registered under the kitcar make and not of the doner car.all car documents must read and concern the kit car make. any kitcars with doner cars at a later date will be considered as a brand new car and must come up to the standard expectations of the such, which means it has to have a (typa-prufung)thats swiss german.means it has tobe passed by the swiss import and traffic licence office rules. so the best advise is to get one that was 1st reg/ before 1973.and try to get a lefthand drive car.for further info please contact me john.saint@bluewin.ch.and good luck, rgds, swiss john..............also kind rgds to robbie |

| Comments: | I've got an F reg Sierra which refuses to die. The body is shot now but the engine still goes ok despite over 105,000 on the clock. It's even got 4 good tyres. It has solely been used to embarrass my Citroen Xantia into starting every time, but now has been superseded by a ZX with the same function. I keep saying I'll scrap it off and would love to have built a kit car on it but don't have the time, space or money. Any offers? You can drive it away, or I'll wear a disguise and drive it to you! I'm based in Sutton Coldfield near Birmingham. Be quick, I need the space for my ZX! |

We have one that has rolled on its roof, but interior and mechanics are excellent (The sunroof didn't even break as my son rolled up a bank!). I've temporarily bolted it to the tub but on dry fitting the windscreen it appears to be about 2.5cm short from top to bottom. The sides are ok. | Comments: | Hi! Giorgio,
The SVA test does not apply to cars bought or built in any European Country such as all recognised makes Ford, Volvo, Citroen, Mazda, Alfa Romeo etc that have already been granted cetificates to produce models complying with European legislation. It applies to imports from outside the European Community such as Japanese and American cars direct from their country of origin and also to amatuer built vehicles such as kit cars. More information on link below. http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/exptimpt.htm All the Best Regards Robbie |

get at it? I take it that the propshaft will need shortening by the 3.25" difference in the gearboxes, do both gearboxes have the same spline / fittings? Tnx Mark |

| Comments: | Hi! David,
The fuel clips you are on about are used on modern cars and are crimped into place using a special crimping tool. The clips are available from motoring suppliers Partco etc. You would probably get more information from your local MoT station and probably the clips. I don't know what SVA test station you are going to use David, Leighton Buzzard or the London ones, but you can phone up the SVA Tester at the station you will use and ask his advice. All the Best Regards Robbie. |

It is a 1.8cc engine where the dizzy is at the front of the timing cover. Not a pinto engine. The timining belt has snapped and I wish to fit a new one. I just need the info or pics to show how to set up the pulleys for the timing to be right. Can you advise ? I am fairly competent with the tools but have never had to change a timing belt.

| Comments: | Hi,
Has anyone uprated the front springs, from the original supplied by JBA, on a TSR when using a 2 litre DOHC engine, as I have a lot of preload on the springs. Also I seem to have a lot of negative camber on the REAR wheels, again using standard springs off a Sierra 2litre DOHC saloon. As the only adjustable area seems to be the spring length has anyone packed these out or used longer springs. |

| Comments: | Adrian: I bought a set of 15" chrome wheels with wire 'baskets' that look like wire wheels, even close up. The ease with which they go on your car depends of whetehr it is Cortine or Sierra based, I think. Mine is sierra and I had to make the wings wider, as the wheels are not offset. If your roads are at all pot-holey or lots of speed humps the advice I was given is don't use wires as they go out of true too easily. Whether the advice is right or not I do not know, but it made me wary! The wheels look good even without the baskets! I got them from Raceways at Donnington. |

| Comments: | I have recently purchased a JBA Roadster with Pinto 2.0l and 4 speed box. For some reason the engine has been fitted with raised crown, high compression pistons and it continually pinks. I've decided that the pistons need to be replaced and am considering purchasing a decent short motor rather than just the pistons. I've been offered a 2.0l cortina engine which is currently mated to an automatic box, but I'm unsure as to whether this will mate to my current manual box. Is this a straight forward job of replacing the torque converter with my present flywheel and clutch.
I am also considering fitting a 5 speed box. Is this likely to be straight forward. Will I need to change the prop shaft? |

The Maximum Power Engine Speed This can be found in the Haynes Manual section:- Engine/engine data. The Haynes Ford Sierra manual gives the data for various sizes of engines along with engine codes. Ask Local Toyota Dealer. The Maximum Road Speed Can be found from Road Test Reports or your Local Dealer. These two SVA questions relate to the tyres fitted to your kit and specify if the tyres are of the correct rating by reading the data supplied. |

| Comments: | Hi! Ian,
I am not sure about the type of studs on the Mini hood, but you should have no problem in finding them. Scroll down on the page below till you come to the hood photo, It will show you the type of studs we use on the Falcon. http://www.robbiegibson.com/doug12.htm They can be obtained from "Singer Sewing Shops" in your high street, size 10 for the Falcon, or craft shops. Take one of your own studs to compare sizes. The other place is "Woolies". The Trim People, with mail order. http://www.woolies-trim.u-net.com/fasteners.html They deal with all sorts of Classic cars and should know exactly what you need. They will also be able to help you if you are unsure. Mini Sites http://www.roblightbody.com Other Mini Sites http://www.roblightbody.com/mini/links/enthusiasts.htm Hope this helps you. | Comments: | Hi,
I've just purchased a part complete JBA Javelin and will need to get SVA approval. I checked with JBA but they tell me they have no manuals or info as they ceased making the car 15 years ago. The engine is a 1600 Ford which in time I hope to change and most of the interior trim etc needs finishing. There is no plate under the bonnet showing the chassis number. Has anyone got any manuals or info that I could buy or copy? Also, where on the chassis will I find the chassis number? Thanks Ian Bunch Hastings East Sussex |

| Comments: | I am in the process of rebuilding a falcon tourer and I have got a problem with the front coil springs. For some reason the a previous owner decided in his wisdom to have both springs welded, maybe to have a lower ride or something, your guess is as good as mine. Has anyone got the specs for the original springs or have had them modified for better handling. I would be gratful for any help. |

Is it worth the effort - is there a noticeable increase in power - is there much electrical work involved? | Comments: | Great site !
I particularly liked the article showing the construction of the Falcon Sports. It sure looks like the build is a bit easier (more done for you already) nowadays than when I built my 2 + 2 (The one that Dave Tennant now owns). Glad to see that JBA is still going strong, and that Dave is donig a stellar job of keeping the old 2+2 in beautiful condition. Ya know - I must be nuts or something ... I built an open-top car while I lived in freezing cold Scotland, and now that I live in California and am inundated with sunshine, I drive a van ! There's something wrong with that... ;-) Regards, Gordon McConnell. |

| Comments: | I wonder if any of you can advise me with regards to SVA.
I'm re-building, an unfinished Falcon Tourer which was originally purchased in October 1993. The car was never finished by the original owner, nor by two subsequent owners thereafter. I do have the original logbook of the Cortina donor, and photo's of it in various stages of strip-down, also I have all original receipts etc. in addition to what I have spent. As the car is relatively old, will it still require SVA, or will it be considered a pre-SVA vehicle. I have spoken to the DVLA, who advise the Falcon will retain the original Cortina registration. Anyone help?? Thanks, Dave. |

I recently replaced my cam-belt and when I cam to putting all together I couldn't find the timing disk. I set it up roughly so it runs without any nasty clanging noises but the performance is a bit off. The cam is a Kent Fast Road one, 270 degree I think. I also have a vernier cam-pulley so the setting is not quite straitforward. Please help me, my fuel consumption has dropped from around 25 to less than 20 per gallon. |
