| Comments: | Hi to anyone who is reading this. I am trying to locate information on a boys home in the ingatestone area in 1976. So far i have had no luck untill i found this site. Im now thinking that the boys home may have been Orchard house stock run by Frederric Beagle. I notice that there are a few people who attended this boys home and i would love to get more information on this place as my brother may have attended it in 1976 aged 10yrs. If anyone can help with my enquiry please contact me on my email. |

| Comments: | I loved my time living in Stock. I attended the local primary school from 1987-1991 and thoroughly enjoyed it! I remember dancing the Maypole and wearing the red and white checked little dress as uniform. I used to play on the common and climb the smaller tress around it. I lived with my Sister Charloote and my Mother, Gay Johnson. Anyone who remembers me or my family are welcome to get in touch. |

| Comments: | Hi, what a super website. I stumbled onto it while looking up Margaretting, as my great-grandfather, George Southgate was the blacksmith there until his death in 1912, when the business was taken over by his son, Ralph.
I would love to know if anyone has a photograph of him, or can point me in the right direction, please. |

| Comments: | As a student in Chelmsford, to make my ends meet, I worked as a part time bar-tender at The Ship public house in the village of Stock from late 1973 to 1976. The landlord then was a gentleman by the name of Mr. John Amos. Both he and his wife were very fond of me and my work as I used to slog my guts out and guide them on their accounts, and filing of tax and VAT returns. Then my salary was 0.50p per hour and on very special ocassion in Mr.Amos's family a Scampi-on-the basket treat or accept not more than 1/2 a pint of beer from a customer in an evening or morning shift.
Today I'm a qualified Management Science graduate from England and heading a local insurance company as their General Manager Finance. I would like to keep up that associationship if my message could be circulated through the local council and local customers who still are visiting The Ship on the weekends and public holidays. As their first Asian Muslim staff member in a Jew owned public house serving Christian customers was a fantastic combination of cosmopolitan environment and believe it or not, a lot of the customers thought I was a British citizen due to my good English language. On the other hand I too felt at home and never once faced racial hatredness. The people in Essex were just lovely and friendly. I would like to keep up that relationship by way of correspondence with those of them local customers who remember me and used to visit the pub during those years |

| Comments: | Hello, my reason for visiting is that i was resident in Orchard House in the early years of the 1960's. Orchard House at that time was a home for boys run by a chap called Frederic Beagles. I went to school in Ingatestone, takem by coach from near the War Memorial. The only Adults i remember apart from
'Skipper' Beagles are the Village Police constable Plunkett and Peter Brierly From the orchard at the Bottom of the hill. I remember Stock as a beutiful place and have some great memories of my time there. |

Left when I was five. Now if I'm in England and drive through the village, I wonder how all the local children used to get into that tiny school. The only thing I remember clearly was one of the teacher (Miss Beeson) used to arrive on a horse which was then tied to the playground railing for the rest of the day. |

4 of us rented a small house right next to Great Preston's Farm. Home is now back in the North of England where I was born. Planning to pay a visit to Stock later this year. I am sure it is just as picturesque today as it was some 18 years ago. |

The fete was wonderful. The kids dancing and the maypole dancing - I have them both recorded. I even won quite a few prizes on the tombola but probably only because I bought the tickets when they were packing up and had removed quite a few of the non-winning tickets!! I'd love to come back again - probably will. |

I cant understand how people like living in citys and places like that when you could move to a place like this. its peaceful and when it snows it is really nice, would never wont to be anywere else. Only thing is that exept for a few clubs eg cricket and scouts there isnt much for a youge person to do. it would be great if there was just somewere we could go at anytime, like the common but with other things than swings. |

| Comments: | Working for Bentley Essex just over a year ago, I spent two days demonstrating the cars based on Greenwoods. Clients were given a ride in a vintage Bentley around the local lanes for some fun. It felt rather spooky for me as I'd last been there camping, for the first time, was with the 36th West Ham Cub pack. That probably was about 1947/8. A wonderful experience for a youngster living close to West Ham's football ground in the East End. To eat outside ( all meals on a long wooden table ) and each evening sing around the campfire at the bottom of a steep gulley somewhere in the grounds was awsome !!! No Harry Potter and Play Station then............. Oh, and we slept in huge ( to me) what must have been ex army tents, with one one blanket and a pin it was not warm !!! Kids today have no idea !
Retired in France now one year - that's better. |
