| Comments: | For those past and present village folk who knew my mum Gwen Griffiths it is with great sadness to inform you that she passed away peacefully on the 17/03/2013.
Mum had lived all of her life in the village and since 1962 in Birch Lane where both myself and my brother Martyn grew up. Her service was held on the 04/04/2013 at All Saints Church Stock. |

| Comments: | I'm interested in the history of The Cock, as one of my ancestors was involved in a drunken dispute there in December 1885,and died a couple of days later. I found the Coroner's Inquest report on the Find My Past website under British Newspapers. The report was in the Essex Newsman dated Saturday 26 December 1885. The Coroner was C. C. Lewis, my ancestor was Jabez Hobart. The Rev. E. P. Gibson, Rector, was foreman of the jury, and witnesses were the Ostler, James Marshall, Edward Fitch Labourer, William Cable Labourer and Charles Martin, labourer. The surgeon was Arthur Clarke. I found the photos of The Cock in the 1950's, but does anyone have any earlier ones? and can anyone point me in the right direction to find a history of Stock in the 1800's? |

| Comments: | Those residents of Stock with long enough memories will be sad to learn that Hamish Farmer, who used to live at Harvard Cottage on Swan Lane, died on 27th January 2012. His funeral is at Canwick Church, Lincoln, at 11.00 a.m. on Friday, 17th February 2012.
He retained the fondest memories of his days in Stock and of long evenings in The Bear. |

| Comments: | My brother, Jim Sargant, who has written several articles on the Stock site, sadly passed away on May 17th. We lived at the Garage in Mill Road from 1939 until 1952 with our parents, Bill & May Sargant and brothers David and John. Jim always felt a strong connection with Stock and we would often spend time reminising about the happy years we spent there. He and his wife celebrated their Golden Wedding last year and he was so thrilled that two of his boyhood friends from Stock were able to be there. |

| Comments: | I have been reading stock press whilst at home in Hampshire getting ready to go back to Essex to attend the funeral of my mother Valerie Bell - I have been scan reading the messages and some of you I remember - and certainly the names mentioned ring some bells ( whoops that not meant as a pun as my maiden name was Bell)- Pc Plunkett, the fish and chip shop, how many of you remember Doctor Minto and Ferguson and if you go back further do you remember Mrs Deering's shop in Mill Road and the garage at the top of well lanne/mill road. Then how many of you remember going to Eva Prior's . Yes I remember the Post Office in the High Street - here we used to get our savings stamps and also there was a side area with jumpers etc - the smell of moth balls brings back such memories for me.
Sadly my beloved mother, Valerie Bell passed away last Friday( 11th March 2011) but she and my dad lived in Stock from 1956 ( I was a mere 1 year old and I think those of us in prams were in the minority) and she and dad were well involved in Stock until they left to move to Billericay in about mid 1990's for a few years but then they returned to Stock to Norwood until just over three years ago when they moved nearer to my brother in North Essex. As you will see my mother, along with her close friend, Edith Sparrow were the first editors of Stock Press, my mum and Edith started the Carol signing service for all in the Catholic Church and Mum was one of the original presidents of the Stock harvard WI to name but a few- my dad was Chairman of the Parish Council and I still recall Sunday lunches being interupted by people calling re drainage problems and other problems. Well I am signing off for now but would love to hear from anyone re Stock debbie |

| Comments: | I still have fond memories of Stock and will do for ever. My late father David Ray Coupe lived in Stock prior to joining the Army in 1953. His parents Nancy and Sam rented the house behind the butchers and then moved to Brookmans Road prior to ny Grandmothers death in 1964. Nancy's mother, my Great grand mother named Reynolds also lived in the village.
I vividly remember spending many summers in the late 50's and early 60's in and around the beautiful village being accompanied by my uncle, Stephen Coupe. Although not being born in the beautiful village I stil regard it as my spiritual home. May the village maintain its charm and beauty for many years to come, Dave Coupe |

| Comments: | I have been trying to find information about my father who may have come from Stock. The only information I have is from the 1911 census that states his name was Horace Greemasson born New Thunley (or Thornley) Stock Essex. It appears that he was given to a family in London to look after and later changed his name to theirs (and now mine). If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. |

Im now thinking that the boys home may have been Orchard house stock run by Frederric Beagle. I notice that there are a few people who attended this boys home and i would love to get more information on this place as my brother may have attended it in 1976 aged 10yrs.
