With reference to your recent piece in Octobers Romsey Gazette.

I recently purchased a packet of Haddock from Tesco's, covered with the usual mass of minute informative?? print. One section highlighted in red caught my attention."Allergy warning, may contain fish"!

Comments:Hi
What about the forthcoming end of analogue television, in so far as it
affects Wellow, say, from the viewpoint of the quirks of Freeview.Being someone who objects to paying satellie subs when I already pay a licence fee, I have been trying out freeview since it started. Located in Wellow in a poorish reception area. I have just ditched my first gen
receiver as it decided to have a mind of its own.
However, what was involved was new high gain wideband aerial, better cable, new aerial amplifier. then there was the switching of things like central
heating which caused the picture to pixilate and sound to drop out, so lots of mains surge limiters. Its Ok at the moment with a new receiver, but is affected by trees with leaves on and high wind. Cost was minimised as I did
it myself. However , imagine that your neighbour is an old lady who just watches the box for the news. suddenly her news is no longer there. Hence think of the outlay just to get the news. Think of the rogue traders, who
might con her for unecessary kit - just to watch the news again!! The government promises some help for people like her perhaps -it is all
very vague and is not publicised just what they might help with and for who.

Comments:I have just read your latest missive reference DIY and your belief that it is dead.Whilst I recognise your point I am not sure you have been able to appreciate the whole picture regarding the need for the use of the services you mention in your article. For example, my wife and I leave the house at or around 0700 hrs every morning and return 11 hours later. We have a dog who, whilst he could spend the entire day indoors, is walked by a local business at the mid day point. We chose to have a dog and therefore look after him the best we can.Having spent ten years in the Army I am more than capable of ironing. Indeed, my wife has not ironed for the duration of our marriage. However, as I now run a Charity I simply cannot find the time to iron a large amount of clothes and therefore employ a local lady to do the lions share of the weekly ironing mountain. The key word above is local. Are you saying we should not support local small businesses?
I accept your point about feeling satisfaction when something is achieved. However, I take my satisfaction from achieving great things for the many African orphans who benefit from the work conducted through my charity. My wife, a Deputy Head in a local Primary School, takes hers from developing the 400 children in her care.
We can both cook. In fact I do most of the cooking as I realise my wife works too bloody hard sometimes. When we decide to have a take-away it’s because we have earned the right to have a night off; not that I or anyone else needs to justify the reason to you. We often do this on a Friday as, after working a 55/60 hour week (often in the region of 70 for my wife) not including the entire Sunday spent preparing for the week ahead, we are shattered to say the least! So, when you talk about avoiding 2 days hard graft once a month I think you’re being niaive in your assumptions. I would, of course, welcome your thoughts on the above although you have already made them clear in your article.
Regards Geoff O'Flanagan

My friend Paul once hed a jumper from his Mum that he did not like, he claims he used it as a dishcloth.

Comments:G'day Roland! I have at last got round to having a look at your website. Well done and I am envious because I have been meaning to do likelwise for yonks but ...

I was amazed about the Radio Caroline business - I didn't know they were still going! I too remember very well fiddling with and for Radio Luxembourg - it was this fiddling that allowed me to hear for the first time and to instantly love Arabic music!

Radio Luxembourg used to fade out and crackle and it was just like listening to Test cricket from Australia on a cold Winter's morning - what memories!

I hope that you can make it out here again and would like to catch up with you if and when we visit Blighty - I have to catch the "Gills" in at least one game!

All the best,

Gordon
