| Comments: | spring 1980, my brother and his girlfriend, took me to go see a movie (tom horn), I was tweleve. later i went to see another movie and i saw a commercial with steve mcgueen, called the hunter(which came out in the summer). He seemed cool. Sunday mourning December the 9th 1980, flipping threw the comics i hit apon a page that said "steve Mcqueen, actor dead". so i read all three pages on him which profiled him. I realized he was the one i saw on tom horn, his history tripped me out. Around 1981-82 when VCRs where the norm here in south texas. Ive learned that steve Mcqueen is the best film actor, Brando is a great actor, Dean is a great actor, Muni is a great actor,Clift is a great actor,Newman isa a great actor, but steve Mcqueen hes the best of them all..... for all the trees that actors become steve was jus the tree any questions about that write me back..... |

I am so happy about the new documentary on Steve McQueen airing on June 1st, Wednesday. I have read every book on him and am anxious to see anything new. The Man is dead all these years. Funny enough, my brother looks just like him and like me adores him. As well as finding him extremely attractive I love the way he adored life. Hope we learn something new about him, although not negative! |

That is so cool, I see Santa Paula differently, now that I know this was his playground in the 70's. Everytime I see a biplane take off at Santa Paula airport I imagine it's Steve going for a ride, since he was a pilot also, and enjoyed flying. I just think he was a humble actor without all the Hollywood glitz and glamour. He was just one of the guys, an American icon....and "All American icon". |

But I believe that from what I have read, he truly loved his first wife, Neile even to the day he died, and even after the both of them had their flings. |

| Comments: | Steve Mcqueen was a god, and it's sad that he passed away so soon. When I first laid eyes on him in Papillon, I thought he was the most beautiful man I have ever seen, and when that amazing movie ended, it went all downhill from there. I love Steve with all my heart, he was the coolest, sweetest, hottest, most amazing actor that I have ever seen, and it saddens me that I wasn't even born when Steve passed away. But I think what Steve wants is just to be remembered, and that's why we should all pass his films and his presence down, so he will be remembered 20 years from now.
God bless you Steve, you'll always be my hero that's all I wanted to say. |

| Comments: | Probably the least mentioned film in the McQueen library is a thing called "Soldier in the Rain". For all practical purposes, it's a lousy movie, which is a pretty amazing accomplishment when you consider the talent that was involved(check out the cast and the director). But if you're a true McQueen fan and you haven't seen this one, you're missing an unusual experience.
McQueen, trying to be funny, over-acts so much (he admitted it himself) in some scenes that it makes them painful to watch ! In the meantime, Jackie Gleason (one of the greatest comedy actors ever) attempts nothing funny at all in this film. Inconsistent with its overall quality, this film (strangely) does contain one of the best fight scenes ever filmed. This very cool scene, which inexplicably nobody ever mentions, is the single best example of McQueen "doing his own stunts". It's skillfully choreographed and edited, has some amazing moves, and genuinely makes up for the rest of the film. For my money, it is the best moment in all his films of McQueen "the underdog" beating the tougher, overbearing "bad guys". If you've had a bad day with your boss, or you're just feeling beaten down by the world, this will put you back in the game. Notable also is this film suffered the bad luck of having been released four days after the JFK assassination in '63. Intended as a comedy, it died at the boxoffice. This film is practically never shown on television, and I don't believe its available on VHS or DVD. Over several years I've seen it twice on TV, and each time it was edited differently. The first time, the main title theme (Henry Mancini) was a slow, mournful piece of music. The second viewing had the same main title sequence but upbeat, comedic music! Probably due to the unfortunate release date, and the fact that the studio didn't quite know how to market this enigma, led to the existence of differing prints. Anyway, if you're looking for the TRUE McQueen cult film "Soldier in the Rain" is it. Happy Belated birthday, Steve -- I felt like writing this morning. You're still an inspiration. |

| Comments: | Well Steve's birthday is two days away. Stood at his grave
last week in California, I have his personality, his passion for racing, ( Own a '96 CBR900RR ). I used to drive a 67 Triumph Bonneville 650 all thru the desert here in Nevada, until I wrecked it lauching a sand dune at 50 MPH. , I have cold steel blue eyes, dimples and a rugged charming face, I'm intense, I collect just about everything. When I was nine-teen I worked for a pool cleaning service, I had the star route, I cleaned all the big stars pools. Met alot of nice show-busness people; but no one tops the list like Steve, cool, calm, right on the edge, yet gentle and kind. My wife is twenty years younger than I, Never realized it till lately, I think I modeled my life to some extent after him! Just finished a memoriam in 3D for James Coburn. |

Nearing the end of Papillon when Dustin Hoffman And McQueen bid a fond farewell atop the cliffs. another comes moments later, when we see pappy floating on his sac of coconuts and he utters the imortal line: "I'm still here you bastards!" | Comments: | When I was single and lived in the Los Angeles area I became a big fan of his because he was exciting and not a phony like many other movie stars. He didn't hang around with the Hollywood crowd in order to achieve or keep his popularity. He just did his own thing. I remember one time when there was a huge rain storm in the area that he lived. A newspaper phot showed all the wealthy people fleeing the area in there expensive cars, but also in the picture was Steve McQueen in t-shirt and jeans working with a man on a frontend loader trying to unblock drainage culverts!
I tryed to several times to meet him, but it never worked out. So I decided to go at it another way. I started to pray regularly that he would become a Christian , then I could meet him in Heaven some day. All 5 of the biographies I have of Steve indicate that he became a Christian sometime before he died and he died with Billy Grahams Bible on his chest. Needless to say someday I will meet him! |

| Comments: | There was so much expression in his face that I was impressed by his looks in the very first picture I saw. That was a poster that was put on top of a building in Mumbai for the release of the film of "The towering inferno" in 1976. later I saw many of his movies and I liked "The Thomas Crown Affair" too. In most other movies I loved to watch Mcqueen more than the movie itself. later, in some other article i read that Mcqueen did not know how to handle himself and that he had clashes with fellow artistes many times. that alone dissappoints me. |

| Favorite McQueen film?: | Do I have to choose? |
| Comments: | Great site. I have been a great admirer of Steve McQueen's movies for some time now, I have only been collecting them since late 1999 though.
I was conceived around the time of McQueens death, so I do not remember his legacy as it happened, but I do look back with great regret that I was not around to perhaps see one of his movies such as The Great Escape at a cinema - nor am I likely ever to as I live in England where you are lucky if a movie filters down to us within a month of its US release! News for all UK fans! Channel 4 are showing The Blob next Friday 10th Jan late at night. Don't forget to set up your VCR's. I would, but I already have that one. Anyway, I would just like to say that I consider myself very inspired by this actor. I find myself in situations all the time where I could loose my cool, but choose not to because silence can speak volumes. If anybody wishes to contact me, please feel free. Joseph |

| Comments: | WOW, this is a TERRIFIC site- a very lively place! I ADORE Steve McQueen... No other actor even comes close to his charisma and sex appeal. He's the only actor I've seen that can command attention in a scene without saying a word. I've been a fan for 3 years now, after watching his story on the E channel. He's brought a lot of fun and pleasure my way ever since. I could go on and on, but I'll keep it short. If anyone wants to email me, please do. It'd be fun... |

My brother Terry Hull, worked for Steve. I remember Steve's old mail plane and I think he had a Stinson too. He was a great guy and is sadly missed. I live in Wisconsin now and really miss Santa Paula and all my freinds there.

| Comments: | Well, what can you say? The man is an enigma. An incredible talent, drawing from his truly sad upbringing, filtered through this huge, insecure ego. I can't seem to get enough of his movies or history. What is so attractive is that he was REAL, with a storied life reflected on the screen for all to see, warts and all. He was dangerous, a lout, a jerk, a charmer, and just always looking for "peace", as he phrased it to his first wife, Neile. Really irreplacable. |

| Comments: | Did any of you know Steve as a So. Cal desert motorcycle racer? He raced AMA District 37 on a triumph motorcycle (as I recall), and was a member of the Rams motorcyle club. He was a great guy and fellow racer. The nights around the campfire were never the same after he was gone. I liked On Any Sunday because it showed Steve as we knew him a real
person with a passion for motorcycles and racing. He had a passion for all that he did. Hey, and all his other films are great, too! |

| Comments: | With James Coburn passing away, it's worth noting that he was a good friend of Steve's besides appearing in three of Steve's movies. They were both born in rather poor surroundings in the Midwest and had rugged good looks. He narrated the "Man on the Edge" bio tape on Steve and said some great things about him on another bio pic and in the Premiere mag. story on Steve a couple of years ago. Maybe they're having a good laugh together now. |
