Is there a way to do this, or do I need to call the Dorchester County Historical Society directly? Will you send me a short bio on Dr. John Polk if you have one on hand? I've asked John for that as well. Thank you. I'm looking forward to visiting the society and being at the workshop. Beth Powell |

From Census records, it appears they immigrated from Poland between 1888 and 1890, Married about 1891, resided in East New Market, and had three children. The spelling of Pawlowski varies as the Census records (of 1910, 1920, 1930) has Pawelski, Pendski, Polwski, and Pulaski. There are inconsistencies in their ages and immigration dates. Help please! |

Do not just the Bell's There is a small grave yard on Messick farm near payne pond, not the small one already done but one with 35-40 graves, was told it was mostly Bell's in it. Mr. Messick said that the grave yard belonged to him and would not let us on his land. Called Mr. Cheeseman quit a few years ago. He went out and found the grave yard, called and said that we could go back out with him just this one time, but he could not find it. (he was an older man and got tired) Have been told by many hunters that it was there and very grown over. Rode by a couple of months ago and there was no woods, the tree haulers had been there. Would like very much to know if they distroried the Cem. or if it is still there. Am pretty sure that this is where our great grand parents and family are. |

Although I can find no existence of Charles Ingram, I do see it clearly stated (in The History of Baltimore, Maryland From Its Founding as a Town to the Current Year 1729-1898, S. B. Nelson, Publisher] that Charles Ingram, together with his son also named Charles Ingram, lived as agriculturists in Dorchester County in the late 16th Century. I'm just short of getting in my car and driving to your lovely library to establish documentation of their existence. Meanwhile, thank you for such rich veins of local historical information that I may research online. All best to you, Flo Ingram |

| Comments: | Ladies and Gentlemen, I am trying to research my ancestors, the descendants of William Wall. My g....grandfather was Ezekiell Wall, brother of William Wall who served as a soldier in the Revolution as a private per DAR record. Their father was William Wall who died in Dorchester County in 1772. I would love to have any information on Ezekiell and his wife, Elizabeth Hill, per Dorchester County marriage records.. Did he or Elizabeeth's family serve in the war, support the cause or support his brother in any way? Was their father William Sr. a civil servant prior to this. The only info I have on the family is from " Colonial Families of the Eastern Shore of Maryland". Ezekiell( Ezekial) was the father of my g..grandmother Hannah Wall who married a Mark Ely of New Jersey. The had a daughter, Cora Ely from Dayton, Ohio who was the mother of my great grandmother. Cora Ely married Marshall Jerome Gregg, moved to Birmingham after the Civil War. Their daughter was Luetta Alpha Gregg, who married Judge George Caldwell Taylor of Greeneville, Tn. They were my loving grandparents. My mother was Ellen Alvira Taylor who married Tim Joseph Manson from Chattanooga. My parents are now deceased leaving me and a brother, Tim Joseph Manson. I am Ellen Taylor Manson Watson from Lookout Mountain, Ga , a suburb of Chattanooga. I have gotten this far with the geneology but the history of Dorchester County is so VERY full of info. I just don't know where else to look for the info on William Wall Sr and Ezekiell. Can you put me in contact with a local historian or geneologist that can advance my own family history. So much on my family!!! There is no shortage of words from this Southern gal. No way I could make it briefer. Thanks for any info you can supply as I would love to qualify Ezekiell Wall as a supplimental ancestor for the DAR. Thanks for your patience on this family diatribe. Sincerely your, Taylor Manson Watson 208 Rock City Trail, Lookout Mountain, Ga 30750 |

| Comments: | I desc. Taylor's Island, Lt. Leven/Leavan Woollen, Sr., to Little Troublesome Creek on the Guilford/Rockingham Cos., N.C., line. Near Rev. War, Speedwell Iron Works where the Maryland Continental Line encamped after the Battle of Guilford Court House. Many other Dorchester Co. families removed there after the Revoluntion, such as the Goosetrees. Thirty years ago, Levan's log cabin still stood in fine condition at Woolen's Crossroads. The date 1793 in the stone chimney, and on the deed. The log's 1&1/2 feet squared; no chink'n; solid walls of wood; whitewashed within. A blacksmith's and wheelwright's shop there was where a Civil War company was recruited. In the 1830's, one of the Woollen's there espied a coble of near-naked, shoeless, chained, enslaved blacks passing to the new Missisippi territory. Some Woollen's and Heath's removed to Indiana; writing back, they NEVER wanted their children to see Christian men treating other men, that way. Later ex-Quaker Rev. Daniel Worth (father-in-law of Dr. Woollen) was convicted and sentenced to be publicly whipped at the Guilford County court house, for passing out a wagon load of Mathew Rowan Helper's book, "The Impending Crisis on the South". It was illegal to criticize slavery. Dr. Woollen bailed out his father-in-law, Rev. Worth; and they fled to Woollen and Heath kin, earlier removed to Indiana. Where on Taylor's Island was the Woollen home? What happened to the Navy family there? Jim P.S. My great grandfather, Sgt. James Anderson Woollen, CSA musician, buried Old Salem, N.C.; is in the 1890's book, "Lee Family of Virginia", by Edm. Jennings Lee. |

| Comments: | I am so excited to have found your webpage! I have been looking for any information I can get on my ancestor, Valentine Arnett. Some reports say he was born in 1752 or 1754 in Ireland and died in 1807 in Maryland. He apparently enlisted in Dorchester Co., MD in 1776 to fight in the Revolutionary War. In 1773 the Nanticote Indians "gave possession" of land to him in Maryland. In 1776 he enlisted, Capt Thomas Burk's co, flying camp, for Dorcester Co. I would appreciate any help in fleshing out this information or any more you could give me. |

| Comments: | Did the "New Market Blues" fight at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, N.C., in the Revolution? Did any Dorchester Co. unit fight at Guilford? Robinson Woollen Hands, 3rd Asst. Engineer, USS Monitor (officer at left sitting atop a jury-rigged stool of two Monitor armoured deck-light covers), perished when she foundered off N.C. His brother, Capt. Geo. Washington Hands, Jr., CSA, Virginia infantry, never spoke his brother's name again; considering Robinson a traitor. Robinson's memorial stone is in the downdown cemetery, Baltimore. |

| Comments: | Am researching the Raleigh (Rawleigh, Rauleigh, Rawley) family line. James Rawley (b. 1659; d. 1710) married Jane Willson (b. 1663 in Kent, England) in Somerset county, Maryland. Their children were: Thomas Rawley, William Rawley (b. 2/9/1684 m. Rebecca Marrett d. 1732), James Rawley (b. 2/14/1686 m. Alice Wheeler d. 10/14/1749), Morris Rawley (b. 10/21/1689 m. Frances d. 1/23/1731), Margaret Rawley (b. 1691), George Rawley (b. 7/16/1693), Samuel Rawley (b. 6/12/1695 d. 1719), and Robert Rawley (b. 1710 m. Elisabeth d. 5/27/1752). Would love to figure out where James Rawley came from and more information about Jane Willson. Reportedly, the Rawley line is related to a collateral line of Sir Walter Raleigh. |
