What a real pleasure it was for me to visit Abercromby 531 on January 26/10. A warm welcome awaited me as soon as I walked in the door. I enjoyed the work of the evening which I may add was performed in an exemplary manner by the deacons and the wardens. There are some quite noticeable differences between the way thing are done in Scotland compared to Canada but that is what made it really interesting for me and although different there was also a sameness which made one feel right at home. I would be remiss not to mention the two friends of mine that made this all possible for me. Bro. Thomas Morgan and Bro. Sandy Laird. I look forward to some day doing this all over again and meanwhile if any of the brethren from Abercromby Lodge are in or near Burlington Ontario we can arrange for a visit to Wellington Square Lodge 725. We are off July and August. Also and I should have mentioned this earlier the mark token you presented to me was not only a nice surprise but a treasured keepsake. My installation as WM will be Nov 2011. We meet by the way the 2nd Thursday of the month with dinner at 6.30 and the lodge tiles by 7.30. So if any of you get the chance stop by. I am still serving with the army and I am still based in northern Germany which is the main reason for my continued absence. I was in the UK recently as I was returned from active service in Iraq after being wounded (nothing too serious)and I spent 3 weeks in Headley Court in Surrey. I just wanted to let you all know that I am still here and that if I have the opportunity then I will make it to a lodge meeting. I was unaware that this website existed and found it almost by accident, I was saddened to hear of the passing of Danny, I had known him many years before with his work with the army cadets, I am sure he will be sorely missed.

At the first meeting there was a lively debate in respect of annual dues to grand lodge it was agreed by a vote to go for an annual fee set at £13 per member excluding no attending life members. The vote to ratify the £13 was passed over to the August meeting and was carried at that meeting there was a large overseas attendance from Germany, Israel, Jamaica and the Bahamas on both these occasions a large number of brethren was present fraternal greetings. |
