I was able to locate more individuals death certificates than ones for births. I did find an instance where the cemetery info was incorrect. It may have been that the family later changed their minds on where they wanted that person interred. |

I'm continuing to do genealogy research of both my and my husband's families. As you know, most of his family is buried at St. John Cemetery in San Augustine. I'm from Mansfield (DeSoto Parish), Louisiana. I found another site with death certificate info that has led to the discoveries of many Sowell family connections in the 1850's onward.
Write me back at my personal email. My husband (George Clayton Sowell) and I were visting Aunt Lera (Sowell) Harper in Lufkin a month ago, and someone mentioned they saw you in Lufkin. Have you had a chance to check out St. John Cemetery on the San Augustine County TXGenWeb Archives page. It's the one where Lola Withrow is the site manager. Also, I posted the cemetery on FindAGrave, and gave a copy to the San Augustine Public Library. The lady in the genealogy dept. (Ms. Lillian) was thrilled. She said she had lots of info on the Caucasian cemeteries and family histories, but had almost no info on the African-American cemeteries. I told here that I would spread the word. I saw the Greer Cemetery on FindAGrave. Raymond Sowell, who is buried at Greer Cemetery was married to Vodine Greer. I saw a Vodine Sowell on your list and was wondering whether she had passed. We sort of lost touch with her after Raymond passed. Also, did you get in touch with Margarette Hunt Jones of Dallas? I've found tons of info on the African American Sowell family; however, I haven't been so successful with my own. | Comments: | I graduated from SA High School in 1965 and now live in South East Texas. All issues of the SA Tribune up til last year, I believe, have been put on microfilm and are at the SA library. This has created a lot of interest. Contact the library about copies. Arlan and Stephen have a new building and the Tribune has been moved into it located at East Columbia and St. Hwy. 147. The SA Library has a nice geneology dept. Also all of the records in the SA courthouse have been put on computer and requests for copies or searches can be made. There is a charge for these services. For more information, call the County Clerk's office or the County Judge's office. Hope this will be of help. |

I am interested in learning about his various descendants and discovering living ones today who would be my cousins. I live in Aurora, Wise County, Texas, just north of Fort Worth. Felix gave issue to nine children between two wives. The only descendancy information I have is through Martha Jane Dixon, his daughter who married William Albert Abney, Sr. of Angelina County and their subsequent descandants to my family. He built 'The Mansion House' on the north side of Columbia Street between Harrison and Montgomery streets in San Augustine sometime before the winter of 1836, when he sold it to Harrison E. Watson.

I have some copies of old Civil War orginial letters written by my gg grandmother's brother, John E.Berry/ and my gg granfather, Franklin Warden Ancestor's. Some of the surnames mentioned in these letters are: John Cunningham, Sims Stovall, Ed Cone, James Huddleston, John Dicky, Crumps, James Thomas, in John's letter.
