I had no idea what your name was until tonight. I only knew you as "Jim" the writer on Morning Sedition. But I used to listen to you guys every morning at work until about December 2004 when our policy changed and we weren't allowed to stream audio on the job (bastards!). Anywho...I used to laugh my head off to your Rapture Watch and War on Brains. I liked the other stuff too, but those two bits were two of my favorite comedy sketches of all times. I got a recording of them about a year and a half ago somewhere and I actually listen to them semi-regularly whenever I need a good laugh. I just finished listening to them about a half hour ago and I decided to see if I could find out who you were on Google. Sure enough...here I am. The best part about this is that I discovered through your site that my collection of your skits was not even near complete! I only had the first 20 W.O.B. and the first 16 of R.W. So thanks to you generously donating them on this site, I've got a whole ton of comedy to look forward to today. Jim, you're the best man. Finally watched "Left of the Dial" DVD The shame and the glory. The cast (with the exception of the stars) were amateurish but convincing. The stars were professional but unconvincing, save for Jim Earl who was solid and genuine. I think they recorded Maron and Rhoades' VO for the DVD first then wrote this highly improbable story around it. The focus is all over the map (which, incidentally, was used in the final scenes as a substitute for a happy ending: a typically desperate last minute editing decision). Performances are either low-key or over the top. They seem to have too many directors or no director at all because the piece doesn't know if it's a comedy, a tragedy, a suspenseful who-done-it or a simple romantic triangle. Over all, sort of a mix of "The Office" (American version) plus "WKRP" with hints of "Play Misty For Me" "The Truth About Cats & Dogs" "Talk Radio" and a touch of "Joe Dirt". There is also a Loud Family quality to the production. Every type of personality is represented: Infantiles -(4) Marc, Randi, Al and 1st CEO Evan (necessary babies) Juveniles- (about half the cast, a little less) Techs, writers, lawyers, staff, interns Adolescents- (most the other half) Investors, PR gal, Mark, Rachel, Liz, Chuck Adults: (2) Carmen and (Who knew !?!) Jim Earl. |

| Comments: | When are you going to unleash Sybil Mortenson-Herringshaw, society reporter and close personal friend of Leona Helmsley, Nancy Reagan, and Barbara Bush. I hear Sybil organizes teas at Bryn Mawr and Vassar, that she has chaperoned at Chote, and she once personally directed her butler to inform the cook that fish from the Hudson river were a "perfectly acceptable souce of protein for the staff" but that she should never be served to family or guests. I suspect she is the, shall we say, "sable sheep" of the Mortenson family, but she does get invited to all the right balls. And she must have plenty of anecdotes about the time she lent her nanny to the Bush's, Cheney's, or Winchester's. |
