I am from Brazil and I "try" to breed Saluki here,but it is not an easy task.Nobody knows anything about this wonderful dog,there are few breeders,so ,for those who love and care about this breed,breeding is a difficult decision. 1986. To this day, I miss him very much. He was more human than any dog I have ever come across. He was only 4 years old when he died......check out your kennel before you purchase a Saluki and avoid the pain of losing one too early. HE WAS A GEM and is still greatly missed. |

the Saluki. I find the dog to be beautiful and graceful, which is not the typical sentiment. I have actually had people scold me because our mascots were underfed. However, that type of reaction comes from those not attending the University. The faculty, staff and students of SIU love being a "DAWG." Questions regarding the breed come up frequently when I am talking to parents and new students so I am trying to educate myself as much as possible about the Saluki Dog. Her name is Omens Selah D'Galaxsea.She's almost 5 & has been living with me since she was a 3 mo. puppy.She is not my first sighthnd. I had an Ibizan before Selah. I also adopted a GPA Greyhound 9 mo. ago so I guess you could say I'm sold on the gazehounds & will be happy when AKC recognizes them as a separate group. The activity we enjoy most is lure coursing. League in 1996 when he was 10 months old. Since Day one he's been perfect and everything you describe on your page regarding temprement is true of Woody even though he's a saluki cross. He would rather run after a flying bird than anything on the ground,he also never barks only howls! and he has the whole settee and our bed to himself. He gets lots of comments on his lovely soft coat even when he needs a bath and he loves everyone as long as they've got food!!!.If we're going shopping and have to leave him in doors he lets us know how fed up he is by not even looking at us. Everything about him is brilliant and I wouldn't swap him for the world. Your web site is interesting as we'd never heard of the breed before we got him. |

people, and I realised your mistake on the fact that Salukis are considered Holy, I say that out of knowledge. I am a Muslim and an Arab, I come from a family where my grandparents loved hunting. Salukis were used in hunting, which is true. All dogs are the same to us, each is special in its own way. And everything is a gift from Allah, which are all God's creations. When I was young, we had a lovely pet dog, but we wouldn't let it in the house. And I come from a very religious family. The reason is that we consider them unclean and we cannot pray with them around. In Islam, we are allowed to have dogs for hunting (not only Salukis) as well as guarding. Thank You, I hope this piece of info. sheds a new light. |

old. He died in 1997. He was known as a "desert saluki". His tail curled upward. In his prime, his favorite hobby was running away so he could break the hearts of others who would feed him hamburgers until I could arrive to retrieve him. In his prime his other hobby was fighting other dogs. In his golden years he loved to sleep on the bed that my mother-in-law made for him. His eye brows were so expressive. His vocabulary consisted of a multiple note rrrrrrrrrrrrr when he wanted to get your attention. He never barked, unless there was a hot air balloon overhead. He weighed 65 pounds. Well done. I would like to have your e.mail and other info in case we decide to go for a Saluki. We have rescued a Greyhound and we are in love with him. In a year time we may be ready to preferably rescue (but may consider buying, the problem is that there are so many unwanted dogs there!) another sighthound and it may be an opportunity to check with you about puppies fo sale or adults that need to be rescued. |
